The graphics look it was drawn by a teenager amateur cartoonist. They aren't bad looking if you want to play a Wizardry 7 clone that looks like it is geared toward children gamers. Obviously, the game is too complex for that but the graphics remind me of a late 80s Saturday morning cartoon.

When rolling for party you need to have at least +15 bonus points for each party member. This will take fucking ages to get as the creation is so slow... Is there a save file editor to skip this? Yeah, that's basically what I said. Deviant Art tier is usually a pejorative implying the art is amateur and childish. It's actually kind of a dumb euphemism, though, because I've actually seen some really professional looking stuff on Deviant Art. Those occurrences are few and far between, though.

>>
>>383849747
It wouldn't shock me. The art in the game is already rather amateur and childish. I'm still going to play it assuming hell freezes over and he releases it, but I'm not a fan of Cleve's colorful, cartoonish sprites.
>>
>>383850298
>every enemy either mana burns on attack, dispels everything, has massive resists and usually immune to most crowd control spells

What Might and Magic games are you talking about? Magic is overpowered in M&M 3 - 5. The newer ones don't count because they sucked ass, IMO. Others liked them but I hated the transition from tile-based, turn-based combat to real-time, primitive 3d.

Only played 6-7. In the second part of the game pretty much anything but sharpmetal is useless, enemies have too high health pools and resists for other spells to do meaningful damage. And usually just immune to charm/fear spells.
>>
>>383850638
The faces aren't bad but they clash with most monster sprites and some tiles (especially the first area). Don't let Cleve get word of that, though, because he'll delay the game for another decade.
>>
>>383850853
Might and Magic 3 - 5 are a very good introduction to the series if you don't mind tile based blobbers from the early 90s. They are much easier than the newer games and magic starts out strong and just gets exponentially stronger. Melee does, too, and eventually your fighters will be attacking 15+ times each turn.

>>383850638

Lmfao what the fuck man, shit looks like a kids first photoshop attempt to make his dad into a snake man or some shit.

I know it's cool to be able to look past the shit graphics but how much effort would it have been to pay a decent artist 50 quid to make some half decent character portraits.
>>
>>383850894
It's all commissioned art, I don't see what it has to do with his work ethic.
>>
The ride never ends. We'll be doing this dance till Cleve dies.
>>
>>383851187
He's just the type of guy that is a perfectionist and can't seem to handle any criticism because his game has to be "the perfect, painted wall on his Neanderthal cave." If enough people complain about the art, he'll "start to hate it" again (his words) and then spend another decade scrapping all the sprites in order to commission someone else to redo them again. It's not that big of a deal, honestly. But the graphics do clash a bit.
>>
>>383851034
Thanks. The truth is that magic is still overpowered in MM6-7, but only like one spell or two. Sharpmetal oneshot kills almost everything, while most other spells barely do 1/10th of the health of an average mob.

Do you still have good spell variety in the endgame for MM3-5? As in, you get to use a lot of spells instead of just a couple overpowered ones?
>>
>>383851539
given that fact that mods will possibly be a thing (if/when) this releases I'd wager the players themselves will take over & create custom made graphics like what the elder scrolls does with it's mods
>>
>>383851624
>As in, you get to use a lot of spells instead of just a couple overpowered ones?

Yes. Nearly all spells scale with your level so something like fireball that you find in the second town will still be very useful in the end game. A spell that does 1 - 6 damage/level and hits all enemies will still be very powerful when you're level 100. The resistances aren't nearly in as brutal in the early games and you have many more spells to choose from.
>>
>>383851539
Are you sure he considers his standards of perfection the same as everyone else's? Do you really think that he has never read anyone call the art "ugly"? Even in the RPGCodex thread there are people complaining about the UI, but we don't see him suddenly delaying the game because of it.

>Are you sure he considers his standards of perfection the same as everyone else's?

Steamtards seem to be putting his ass under the fire, but only Cleve could answer that question, honestly. He could just be bluffing, but he acts like he is desperately trying to put his game out and cutting content he used to deem crucial such as "cockroach races" in order to appease his audience/get the game out ASAP (I know that he has done this before but this could be the time). If he gets enough negative reviews pertaining to his graphics, I wouldn't be shocked if he replaces them with subsequent patches. Cleve is very susceptible to criticism and his forum wars/grudges last decades.

I just don't want that fat faggot to find some other reason to delay the game at the end of the day. Too many people complaining about the graphics would just give him another excuse to "repaint the cave walls."

Why do people unironically like western rpg art from the 80s and 90s ? its fucking shit specially the conan the barbarian inspired crap
>>
>>383853576
I'm guessing that he may have ran out of money or had to settle for a second rate freelance artist. Again, I don't even think the graphics are bad--they would go great in a game geared toward a younger audience, but they clash a bit with the portraits and some of the tiles. I don't even think it's a big deal and it isn't enough of a factor to hinder my enjoyment of the game, but again, Cleve seems to look for any reason to delay his shit when it comes time to release. Once all of the micro issues are fixed, it wouldn't shock me if he starts looking for other reasons to delay the game like complaints about the music, graphics, etc. I can't speak for Cleve; I can only speculate how and why certain gears in his Neanderthal skull turn the way they do.
>>
>>383853959
Oh, and there are posts in the past on the codex where he claimed that the art in Grimoire was changed two or three times over the course of 23 years because he grew to loathe it. It's been so long since I played JRPGs from the 90s that I forgot that there were very unique variations of the style. Maybe I'm just getting old, but a lot of games drawn in the anime style nowadays look very similar as if 2 - 3 guys are doing all of the art. Maybe it's just the moeshit that becomes the most popular. I don't really game much in current year outside of indie blobber shit and strategy games so I'm probably wrong.

It's easy to claim that and he'll have me thoroughly convinced that he's joking until he isn't. It has been nearly twenty three years now, Anon. Twenty three fucking years. With Cleve, it's hard to separate the trolling, jokes, and sincere posts at times because he is a bit loonie and extremely liable to flake out for the most benign reasons. He's not as crazy as the memes suggest, but I believe the time in his vault messed with his head a bit. I wouldn't put it past him to have cockroach racing in his game for reasons only Cleve knows.
>>
>>383855339
You aren't that wrong about JRPGs because everything we get is either Compile Heart shit (endless nep games and other extremely similar garbage) or random NIS/Atelier releases. They oversaturate the market by a wide margin, Atlus and Squeenix with their "once in a blue moon" release schedules can't compete.

I'm fine with RPGs with a free camera like MM6+ or even the recent MM X.

To those that grew up playing the original turn-based tile blobbers, the change to the real time, low-poly 3D engine was like the change from Fallout 2 to Fallout 3. You're going to see some people totally hate the change and I'm one of them. In time, I actually grew to like Fallout 3 somewhat but I never ended up really liking the newer Might and Magic games. Most didn't mind the change so I'm in the minority. I also didn't like Wizardry 8 that much because I preferred the older ones. It grew on me over time, though.

It just takes time to get used to it. We are so used to FPS setting and 60 fps free camera movement that it's just your brain feeling claustrophobic because you need to peek through a square small window etc. Just keep playing, it gets better. Of course you need to also immerse yourself into the setting properly - run in fullscreen, crt emulation and proper midi emulation (MUNT for example or good soundfont) and it gets better. When you finally get used to dos graphics and play something from this century your brain will get sensory overload because the graphics are literally from next century.

Same for me. I never even gave MM6 a chance when it came out, because I was plain not interested in the 3D shit.

>-is there any time limit, or important things that can be missed with no turning back, quests failed with no way to know in advance
Not particularly.

Maybe if you're in the habit of dropping random items? But it's not like the puzzle items take up a lot of weight and inventory space is unlimited.

As far as missables go, there's 2 factions you can choose between but there's also an option to work for both with a random chance of them "finding out" and going hostile.

It's an optional questline though so even if you fail that way, the game is still completable. And heck, there's a lot of warnings given in-game and the hostile chance can be save-scummed.

>-newbie trap choices
>-classes that look good but become completely useless by the second half of the game?
I think the difficulty is front-loaded rather than end-loaded.. Bad builds mostly just make the late game tedious rather than make it unwinnable.

The four classes that I think should be avoided are

Ninja - Hard to build and not even that effective outside of one gimmick build.

Bishop - Actually the strongest caster class, but is also grindy as hell and hard to build as well.

Samurai - The magic words "Hard to build". A bit better than the non-gimmick Ninja build but not by much.

Priest - Only thing going for him is early Heal All, but Bard can accomplish that AND have a variety of other effects.

Wiz 8 is rather lenient overall.
>>
I just want this game to come out so I can pirate it already
>>
>>383868254
That momment when im just exploring in Wiz8 now cause THE DON was too strong to fight for my group but also cause im trying to do quests for both factions.

That momment when you realize that Lords and Samurais were supposed to be part spell casters and im that far in. So all I have is a 2-3 hit lord who is reliant on a Berserking cursed sword (Usually 30+ damage) I stole to not go back to only doing 8-10 damage and missing with 2 swords.. My samurai strikes around 2 times and never procs the lightning strikes mutli hit barrage thing that used to happen in the game. My gadgeteer is just shooting shit stones and dosnt have the Stam to cast his trinkets more then 3-4 but he can shoot around 2 times. My lady bard can only cast 2-3 songs before passing out so shes become some Archer - Musician. Im trying to transition my faerie mage from fire dps into learning earth spells for CC.

Am I doomed?
>>
>>383869218
>Am I doomed?
There's always the option of grinding your skills up.

The Bard and Gadgeteer should carry stacks of Stamina Potions to drink if you want them to use their items more though.

Okay bitches... Steam takes usually 6-12 hours to check the product uploaded to the story. In some cases it might be even faster. HOWEVER, if Cleve misses up his window on Friday it wont be visible until next week Monday or even Tuesday as Steam doesn't operate during weekends. No game has ever released on weekend. So I guess he needs to submit his game on Friday after lunch or so in order to get it visible in store. Of course it would probably help if he would actually contact the Steam store staff and explain the situation but I doubt this will ever happen.

I actually doubt that he will still release anything regardless of what he has said.

Thanks god I got better and can function like a normal human being now, but I can picture Cleve nearly having a heart attack due to anxiety whenever he gets close to a release date. Even worse, his game WILL be crushed by reviewers because of it's dated gameplay and UI.

I fucking doubt any modern reviewer would be capable of playing a wizardry game past the character creation.

pretty sure Fallout 3 was hated for completely misrepresenting most of the franchise's themes and overexaggerating the themes that it did include (super mutants turning into glorified orks, BoS being knights in shining armour with infinite resources, etc). I've never once met or even seen a Fallout 3 hater who hates the game just because it's real time 3D, not even on NMA.
>>
>>383873905
He pushed himself into a corner, first by creating the steam page and missing the release date. Second, he now posted a thread with all the areas he's supposed to check and even said the remaining areas to be checked could be done in 8 hours or so.
Meaning, there's no way he can bullshit about "more bugs" anymore without pissing everyone and losing credibility after he finishes the checklist. Hell, this could even end with his game being removed from steam. If it happens, he still has GOG, but they'll be wary of him.

We do have to remember this guy is a master at making shit up. First he said in the steam update it was only a save version issue. Then he said on codex the djinn was bugged and he had to fix this, because the djinn was part of a " super cool easter egg". Then he said something about the adding more lines/diary stuff for some NPCs. Then he said he was implementing a secret easter egg area that was fucking amazing, but it would be quick because most of the logic was done (?). Lastly, he created the thread on steam with all those areas he has to check " but most of them are already done, and the remaining ones will "just" take 8 hours or so". There's also the possibility he wont release it by friday, since valve still has to validate his shit. He can easily make up that he finished the game, but it's already too late to upload it before weekend, so he gets one more week to " fix bugs".

Games can be easily patched on steam, this retard would massively benefit if some people got it in early access and reported the bugs. But still, he fucking insists on checking all the bugs of an allegedly 600+ hours game by himself.

> I've never once met or even seen a Fallout 3 hater who hates the game just because it's real time 3D, not even on NMA.

You must be younger than me then. I remember when Bethesda first picked up the license and NMA had a meltdown over it for years until the game was released. They claimed that Bethesda would turn a strategic, isometric turn-based RPG into Oblivion with guns (NMA was the place that created the X with guns meme) and there were hundreds of newfags claiming that Beth wouldn't or that "isometric games were outdated" and that first-person games are the future. Of course when the game released, Oblivion with guns is exactly what happened. Around the time Fallout 3 was released, there were gameplay videos of Diablo 3 floating around that proved isometric games are still viable. Of course Diablo 3 ended up being shit later on but that wasn't due to the isometric perspective of the engine.

>pretty sure Fallout 3 was hated for completely misrepresenting most of the franchise's themes and overexaggerating the themes that it did include (super mutants turning into glorified orks, BoS being knights in shining armour with infinite resources, etc).

That happened after the fact but the biggest complaint I had and other NMA posters had when the smoke cleared is that Bethesda simply rehashed the story of Fallout 2 but tweaked it by throwing a daddy character into it. It took a long time, but I simply stopped viewing the new Fallout games as canon and simply started considering them some sort of spin-off like Fallout: Tactics was. From then on, I could enjoy them as Fallout themed FPS games instead of RPGs. If this post has poor grammar or spelling, my bad. I'm rather drunk right now.

>They had extensive legal problems with Andrew Greenberg and all of the original source code for Wizardry, which they had never properly obtained the rights to or purchased from Greenberg. They had written successive sequels while all these legal problems raged in the background, thinking ownership was 9/10s of the law and the longer they stalled in court the more likely they would just be conceded the owners of the franchise by default.

>. Their role as "managers" in the past of software projects mostly consisted of calling people on the phone and asking them when did they think it would be ready. I gathered they had no real hands-on experience managing software development and they were so sparse they decided (all non-technical people do) that it was really a very easy affair, you could just hire some interns for peanuts or anybody handy and shazam, a game would appear in some way sooner or later. I had worked with people in New York with far superior experience and credentials to these guys and was good at recognizing real technical people when I saw them. Norm and Rob were not these kinds of guys.

>Both Norm and Rob were not aware you can easily go bankrupt in software development if the company is run by idiots. They were both confident in a way that did not really resonate with what they had on tap, outside of their name and previous glories. I guessed when I was there that Sir-Tech was really on it's final legs at that point despite having "lots of money" in reserves. I have been doing this long enough to know that incompetent people can burn a million dollars a month easily without being able to explain where it all went. Read the Greenburg case here
https://www.law.cornell.edu/nyctap/I05_0008.htm
Summary from some forumposter:
>According to this summary Greenberg licensed to Sir-Tech in 1981 his 1979 Wizardry game on it and was to receive any and all royalties for related products.
>In 1991, Sir-Tech collapsed then transferred its assets to Sir-Tech, Canada. However, they apparently decided that they didn't have to pay Greenberg his royalties.
>It was in 1992 that Greenberg discovered they left the country so he filed suit in the state of New York.
>Sir-Tech Canada argued that they lacked jurisdiction but Greenberg pointed out that Wizardry products were being sold in the State and that Sir-Tech Canada bought the sirtech.com domain from they former parent company Sir-Tech Sftware, Inc., a New York company.
>He won the lawsuit but Sir-Tech appealed and somehow they won. The court stated that Greenberg failed to even raise the the legal violation that he originally sued them over (cplr 302 a, etc.)
>Not to be undaunted, Greenberg appealed that decision with quite a bit of evidence. This article shows the results of that decision in Greenberg's favor in 2005..13 years after it began and 3.5 years since the last North American Wizardry release. According to Wikipedia, there has been 15 Wizardry products released in Japan since.

In what way was Cleve's description wrong? Even today they farm the model out to Japanese devs to do the heavy lifting of actual game development.

He was right about the anus monsters and gay furries in Stones of Arnhem that the head producer of Sir-Tech Australia forced him to implement, anon. Everyone laughed but HE WAS RIGHT. The Sir-Tech auction of liquidated assets confirmed it.

The description of details of the project by Cleve are probably all true. He was there, he worked there

His descriptions of interpersonal relationships are probably all fake, though. They all paint him as some sort of downtrodden hero and everyone else as some sort of degenerate (the faggotry and pedophilia stories everyone worked together to cover up, a lead dev constantly suspicious of people fucking his wife, the apartment full of dildos and blowjob slaves, etc.). He stretches believability completely, such as him calling the cops re: the child slaves and people not immediately dropping him (if everyone else was fine with covering it up, he was obviously the one to do it, no need to even ask)

I implore you all to read some of the shit in this link. It's in the Codex retardo thread, but you have to either lurk the site for a year or donate shekels. There is some fucking lulzy stuff in here whether you believe Cleve or not. Anyone that wants to laugh at Australians should read this top kek.

"One of the things I had noticed when at Max Phipps apartment is this mysterious phenomenon of teenage boys appearing and disappearing at random. Like you would be sitting at his kitchen table reading over some story scenario materials he had just produced and all of a sudden like in a stage play, a person would appear.

All of a sudden, this kid who looked around 14 would emerge silently from what I had previously thought was a broom closet, cross the room behind me and vanish into another cupola door near Max's bedroom. I'd hesitate a second, not knowing if this kid was actually supposed to be here or why. I had thought when I first arrived it was nothing but Max and I in the apartment. He had these strange "presences" in the apartment, teenage boys all around all the time.

A couple minutes later, another kid would emerge from his games room, definitely underage, a little taller. He left through the front door like he was running an errand.

I was kind of baffled and couldn't help but wonder who these kids were that were always coming and going. when Max came out of his study, I'd say to him, "Max, a kid just walked through. Does he have your permission to be here?" Max would glare at me and make himself a cup of coffee without saying anything .... I'd think, Some weird dudes I am working with on this "Stones of Arnhem" project. Must be some kind of australian cultural gap thing. Maybe unknown teenage kids walk through people's apartments all over Australia and I am just not familiar with it."

Can't you get sued for false accusations?
>>
>>383881747
What false accusations? What Cleve posted was basically confirmed by Mr. Sirotek himself>>383877596. There was an auction on Ebay that Sirotek shutdown but not before assets from Stones of Arnhem were sold which included sketches of male furries having sex with each other and a sketch of an anus monster. The only part of Cleve's tale that is questionable is the child sex ring but Max passed on around the year 2000 so that has never been confirmed.

I don't doubt he was a flaming homo. The penisaur and rectum enemies had his go-ahead. But to believe Cleve's narrative at face value (which always paints him as the downtrodden visionary thwarted by evil and ignorant coworkers) is just naive. He's taken the money and ran from two crowdfunding campaigns. He's taken over 20 years to deliver a game that, according to himself, was nearly done over a decade ago. The man's a liar, he probably spun a tale containing equal part true elements with his "poor me" retardation grafted onto it

Also, by his own admission he has Asperger's, which fuck up much of his credibility. One's expected to take a sperg's take on Richard Sirotek's relationship from his wife which gave off a "bad pall". From a person that admittedly has trouble socializing and reading emotional and social cues. The whole thing is basically "believe a sperg's take on intrincate human interpersonal relationships and his heroic struggle agains 30+ evil clueless people that somehow delivered Wizardry 8, one of the best games ever made"

One of his tirades he mentions taking a while washing his hands as Max Phipps calls to him " Did you fall in, yank?".

>I told them I had gathered that Australians suffered some kind of genetic anemia, a lack of iron in the blood that made them listless and unable to solve problems in their lives. I told them that they were fond of pretending to work but by and large most Australians were some of the least productive people in the world when it came to software development and programming. I told them socialism clearly makes a race of men weak and soft in the head given enough time. I told them that working alone it would take me such a long time to complete the game by myself it would not be worth it to proceed in that context.

>Seeing how they reacted to this situation, knowing something pretty criminal was going on and just telling me to "know my place," I could see exactly why the British had deported their ancestors. I had just met them and I wanted to deport these assholes. Farther south this time, maybe to Antarctica.

Australians, everyone. Enjoy your "septic" meme, faggot. Go fuck a roo.

It is plausible though. At that time in Sydney there were lots of pedestry rings amongst homosexuals. Underage rent boys, sexual abuse of runaways, boy brothels (Costellos at Kings Cross) etc. They were exposed at the 1995 Wood Royal Commission into police corruption and pedestry/pedophilia.
Also see the murder of Arron Light as a case study, a underage rent boy who was killed in 1997 in Sydney as he was about to give evidence against pederests. It was really common and a feature of how gays lived in Sydney.
Not saying there is a direct nexus to what Cleve is posting about, but his account is definitely not implausible or unlikely by the standards of the time and location.

Everyone says this but it's not necessary if you are going to change classes. When you change class, you stats go back down to default. Just try to have a plan for your characters so you don't completely screw yourself over in stats.

Class changing send to be a good way to go, although I've only just made it to the Mines. Started with mostly basic classes and class changed to better classes except for my mage, who I'm taking through a few levels as priest before going back to get more spell points.

Fairy ninja is great. I started with a fairy bard and then turned her into a ninja when the lute stopped being as effective at putting everything to sleep.

I'll buy it, load it up so that it shows a playtime of like 0.1 hours, then shit on it in a review, call it a shittily coded Wizardry 7 rip-off and accuse Cleve of stealing the old Wizardry 7 alpha from Sir-Tech. Then I'll refund it and wait until he goes nuclear.
