Tick is how often a game server updates it's status. 12.5 tick means it updates 12.5 times a second. Status refers to things such as player position, health, ammo/ink, etc.

12 is pretty low but for a non-competitive game it's not really an issue.

Actually it has a competitive scene Nintendo themselves are supporting and they were very vocal about the testfire's tick rate. So I have no doubt that it will be fixed in the final release

Nintendo isn't supporting the competitive scene, they're just going to run an event once or twice a year with no actual prize pool as advertisement. Reggie said himself he doesn't see Nintendo games with large prizes or sponsors.

That Beta had a Low Data burden, which will almost obviously be opisite from the main game, which will be the main attraction as opposed to a mere beta test. Other than that, the fact that there was a whole Splatoon tournament at e3 and there were no delays there as we could see the whole thing, and on top of that, we'll have another chance to play it in 2 days.

At least wait until the testfire in 2 days to complain about it. If you can do better, wait til the game releases. Then I'll agree that this is a problem.

Or we could just ask one of the people who have review copies.
