It's pretty much a replacement for skype, and the people who used skype are too retarded to use TS/Mumble in the first place so they wouldn't even humor that idea. This is pretty much my argument summed up yeah. Discord is very user friendly and does everything behind the scenes while hogging resources. As a result, user interaction with the program itself is kept to a minimum, all by design. All you can really do is change your name and avatar, servers can have custom emoji and that's it.
As to why skype exists for video games, I think that comes down to it being what most people used for communication after MSN was forcefully put down my microsoft. Kind of like if you want to talk to a random person in the real world you're most likely going to have to go with whatsapp or facebook messenger instead of superior options like telegram and so forth.

Eh Discord is fine for certain games. Stuff that requires pick up groups like RB6S or DbD benefit a lot from discord since you can hang out with a group of people and throw it out there every time you want a game going. You can also coordinate anytime using the mobile app to tell when you want to do raids or whatever. It's hard to do that stuff in a normal /vg/ general where everyone is anonymous.

No they won't. I used to mute Discord through volume control all the time and it never showed a muted/deafen icon at all. You can also mute channel notifications and stuff in your own settings and nobody would know. Only time it tells people anything is if you blocked them and they try to PM you.

Also you can get BetterDiscord and there's different skins and addons for UI. It requires effort to setup and look for said skins/addons though. I've literally never experienced the other stuff though.
