I have been playing PC games all the way since the late 90s.

Started with Duke Nukem 3d, Wolf 3d, Half-Life 1, Unreal, Quake, System Shock, Deus Ex, etc. and played every new games that came out after.

I can safely say that I have played most PC games worth playing, and even some other less-known ones. In other words: I know my shit!

Now, the hard truth...

Out of the thousands of games that I played... Half-Life 2 is hands down the BEST one. You can say whatever the fuck you want, but this game had everything a game needs to be successful.

An amazing story, a deep protagonist, great weapons, god tier soundtrack, vehicles, boats, a variety of levels, breakthrough graphic engine (still used to this day... 13 years later), breakthrough physics, puzzles, the gravity gun, etc, etc.

You just don't seem to realize how fucking good this game is. And I am not talking about all the Source mods that came with it, or Counter-Strike Source. I'm talking about the game itself, which is a true masterpiece.

There is a reason why, every once in a while, I end up watching some playthroughs of Half-Life 2... while I'm on vacation in a beach resort!

I have completed the Half-Life 2 campaign over 26 times, and I'm not even kidding. By the way, do you know how many times I have replayed the campaign of any other game?

ZERO.

Tried replaying some games, but they were never still as good as Half-Life 2 when playing them a second time.

Anyways, if anyone says that Half-Life 2 is a meme, he's probably a kid that never even played it.

It's also why Half Life 3 isn't coming out. Half Life was a leap in how storytelling is done in First Person Shooters. As you said, Half Life 2 was a technological leap that blew the competition out of the fucking water at the time.

Valve wants Half Life 3 to do something new like the previous games did, problem is that they have no fucking clue what the "new" thing will be. Plus with a general disinterest internally on working on anything outside of fucking VR hardware it would be optimistic to see the game come out at all.

EP1 is literally the city 17 and citadel sections of HL2 but way better and actually fun.

Most people who say it's overrated didn't play it when it came out.
There was nothing remotely on its level when it came out and I still don't think there's been another game that advanced the genre as much as HL2 did.
I think it still stands up fine, though obviously the level design was quite limited by what the engine could handle at the time.
In terms of gameplay, audio and music, general atmosphere though it's on point, there's still very few games that give me the feeling of isolation like HL2 does.
And to all the people that say it has aged badly, other than Crysis I can't think of many games that have aged well.

10/10 when it came out
8/10 by today's standards

That's the whole point though, they worship him more as a legend because of the impact of HL1.
Other than Alyx you don't spend more than 5 minutes in the room with any one particular character in the entire game.
Probably 80% of the game you are on your own.

Well, he wasn't "evil" but he certainly wasn't good. He may have justified it to himself that maybe what he was doing was for the greater good but I'm sure being sheltered from the reality of what was happening and living lavishly in his tower while everyone else down below lived in squalor helped keep him in line.

The shotgun is my favourite from any fps i've ever played, crossbow and magnum are fun too.
Even the AR1 is pretty satisfying.
Gravity gun was revolutionary for its time and is still fun.
I concede that the pistol and smg are shit though, and it would have been cool to have a couple more weapons with a bit more kick.

Pretty good but nowhere near as good as HL1. Weapons feel like shit to use, the characters generally sucked and the segments where you have to stand around and listen to people talk for 10 minutes were extremely tedious.

Just replayed it. First time I played it two years ago. It was alright. Canals was comfy, but I liked the setting of the first one more. Also hl 2 is less clunky, which is nice.

Love the atmosphere and world. I had lots of fun driving around the coast levels and exploring. Also the gravity gun added a nice gameplay element that took it beyond an average shooter.

If you account for its age its he best singleplayer fps ever. Its hardly the best in any specific category but as a whole its very enjoyable to people who can handle the fact that its a 13 year old game.

And that's where it becomes obvious you're chatting shit.
Yes most of the enemies are humanoid, but at the time there wasn't a game with enemy AI that good.
The striders and gunships were unlike anything in any game that I can think of either.
You can throw Antlions and the fact that Zombies were expanded upon a lot from the first game as well.
It's a fair point that there could be more variety, but saying the enemies are 'uninteresting' is just trying to be controversial.
Also the story isn't remotely nonsensical and I think it has a very satisfying conclusion. Only criticism you can level regarding Closure is that Ep 3 never happened.

Coming from hl1, which was very heavily focussed on (indoor) corridor combat it seems very weird to me that they not only didn't add any medium-to-long-range weapons, but actually removed several

considering the excessively limited ammo you receive for the xbow and magnum I really don't see why they didn't give the AR2 better accuracy instead of it just being a slower firing, more damaging smg

I mean at least they made the smg worth using outside of its GL in this game, though the GL is scarce as fuck too in return

Not to say it hurt the gameplay, but it's just an expectation which wasn't met. Especially after having played opposing force, hl2's arsenal is just very disappointing
