It's okay. It gets a while before the story gets going and all the characters will annoy you at the start, but they slowly grow on you. Gameplay is mediocre. The bantz varies from funny to cringy.

I did not play any of the previous games when I played this and It didn't bother me. There are some references obviously to the the previous games, mainly Vesperia but you won't ever get lost, and you could always look stuff you're curious about on some wiki.

Combat is spammy and boring. Story goes full retard after the second half, and the only redeemable thing about it is the characters. People only praise it on /v/ because they're waifu fags. I'd honestly recommend you stay away

Zestiria's combat was bad because of how slow and restrictive it was
Any battle could be won with fusing and spamming aoe spells whcih made it boring
Berseria is not as boring but its problem is its the opposite of Zest, in which everything is viable but it makes it feel too easy, like theres no point not to use the moves that worked better like gouging spin and such
Tales needs to find the balance again for combat like previous games
