Why can't video games do magic right?

I didn't get this game.
One of, if not the main theme is not trusting what is set before us, so we shouldn't believe that everyone is killed through candy bombs or by being crushed by a hundred tonnes of cake, yet we should believe that other things are true for literally no reason whatsoever.
Why should we believe that Battler exists, or that Rokkenjima exists? Or that Beatrice exists?
