It was about determination and the desire to keep moving forward. The invisible part where you're a watcher of the world isn't the part where you're God. You only become god after you shank yourself with that sword and the game ends. That's the true ending, because when you play through a second time on new game + you fight your old character and their pawn.

The whole process is kinda fucky and coercive. The dragon will terrorize your lands and/or kill your loved one if you don't do anything about it- so your inherently motivated to do something about it. Its clearly expressed that the arisen is given super powers and only they can deal with dragons. After killing the dragon the world gets turned into a hellscape and will remain that way unless you do something about it. Then your presented to return to a fake world, which drove that one guy in grand Soren insane, or to see how deep the rabbit hole goes. Then your forced to fight or die. Then your have to remain in limbo for all eternity or end yourself. Pinpoint where any of this demonstrates will.

The bargain is inherently stupid, as the current duke was offered the same bargain to rein as king and for the dragons to leave the lands forever- and clearly that didn't work out for him when 40 something years later the dragon returns and offer the next person in line to usurp him. I suppose you could sit in the world you made and just accept death, but again- you're given super powers so there's no reason for you not to fix things. Just takes practice. If you have Dark Arisen, you can change the appearance completely of your character a certain point in the game, so it's not that big of a deal if they turn out a bit strange looking.

Anyway, try starting with a preset and making her bald with the skin-tone of your choice. Darker skin tones give thicker lips a more natural look. Everything is just to your liking.

Remember the opening scene with Savan? He managed to kill the Dragon with shit gear, shit pawns, and only around level 20-30. By the time you reach the endgame, you're going to be at least level 38 or so. The seneschal is significantly more difficult fight after your first showdown with Savan, since you can square off against potentially really high level characters.

Plus, being Seneschal doesn't actually seem to grant you much combat prowess. He can teleport, make homonculi, and shoot off really fancy looking energy waves, but none of those are really dangerous.

The problem you're having is you're viewing it like a video game. -- Which, honestly is a major flaw with the actual story. There's a definite beginning and end and you have to go through this massive checklist of events to finish the game and see everything because thats "what you do in video games."

The point of the story is that for a real person these decisions and choices mean a lot. This adventure gives you the choice to keep fighting for what you believe in or to give up like the other Arisen before you. It challenges you to continue in a way; and as players we don't see that. We just move forward because "that's what you do in games" and that's what games must do; move forward towards the end.

As a stand alone story it has a lot of depth and character, but as a videogame the medium drowns out the true point of the story, which is at any time you can drop your sword and be a failure.

To be fair, DDO is pretty much "DD with a multiplayer lobby in Japanese". It's not great, but it's not like they bastardized the combat and made it some shitty knock-off.

The issue was that the grind was typical Japanese shit, and you couldn't go solo unless you had the patience of a saint. I got to level 30 before quitting, and only came to get to level 40 because they added the bit where you can knock enemies down by doing a bunch of damage.

Probably a lot of Strider and Sorcerer levels, and a couple Ranger levels for stamina. Maybe whats been repeated forever since there was a Dragon's Dogma, play whatever you want. Your gears and augments more than make up the difference.
