The vault's a prison meant to encase criminals to prevent them from wreaking havok in the war, yet every room's unlocked, besides the vault door. Eventually, some of the inmates make makeshift spears form their beds, and proceed to kill their neighbors and steal their belongings. Every room in the vault is stacked vertically, going down approximately six and two-thirds miles. A single residence is its own level, every bathroom, every diner, every everything. The Vault will open for the next 48 hours, and anyone may choose to leave or stay.

Those who choose to leave will be seen as rejecting the system. By leaving, they embrace the idea of freedom. However, it is made clear that freedom has its own faults and that the outside world is completely unknown to them. What dangers await them outside? How will they survive? and so on and so forth.

Those who choose to stay remain within the system. By staying, they accept the safety and security of the vault, in which all their needs are provided. However, they are exposed to the truth and know that their society and the rules that govern it are mostly arbitrary, even if it is functional.

After the 48 hours, new instructions are given to those who stayed. Everyone becomes an Enforcer. If the Overseer left, the oldest Enforcer becomes the Overseer. A hidden door is opened, revealing a path to another Vault. The Enforcers are then given orders to take over the new Vault and impose their society upon those in the new Vault. The Overseer of the new Vault is ordered to comply and assist in this invasion.

The idea is that those in the original vault stayed because they preferred their arbitrary society. The new instructions test if they're willing to subject others to it.

A gentlemen's fight is a fight to the death where army fight each other 1 on 1. A valid but frowned upon technique is attacking an army's legman if you can outflank him. These moments are tense as an army slowly positions himself between his foe army and legman team. Its a slow manuveur due to the atrophied legs, but if his own legman comes in to assist he could get attacked by the rival army himself. Legmen exclusively run instead of attack at this point in the symbiosis but have an innate need to protect their army as it is their only source of protection.

Other people outside the vaults shun them so they are relegated to a single field somewhere in Nebraska fighting for supremacy. Rumor has it there is a king foot and fist man out there that can do cartwheels as though his 2 halves work as 1.

The Vault is split into two sections.
One side is controlled by an AI overseer that always makes "correct" decisions about everything that happens in that side of the vault. Everything is under the AI's control. A dwellers job, their living area, their entertainment, their food, their spouse (or if they even get a spouse), how many children they can have, etc. Every aspect of life is controlled by the AI to be as perfect as possible. It's essentially a utopia, but the dwellers have no free will whatsoever. The other section of the Vault has no Overseer or authority whatsoever. This side has the same level of resources as the AI side, but their is no regulatory system on how they are distributed. This side of the Vault is essentially just empty rooms that can be used however the dwellers feel like, and nothing exists to impose order other than the will of the Dwellers.

Their is only one passage between the two sides of the Vault. One door in each side leads to a common room that is connected to the main Vault entrance/exit. A school room also exists in this area. Security robots are stationed at the two entrances to the common room and prevent the dwellers from either side from entering the other vault. Their weapons are non-lethal, and merely incapacitate the dwellers. Once a year, the dwellers from each side are allowed to mingle for one day in the common room, but cannot go into the other side of the Vault.

Children are educated in the common room school until the age of 10. They are given a completely impartial education, that informs them of the conditions and "rules" of each side of the vault. At age 10, they are allowed to choose which side of the vault to live on. This is a permanent choice.

Vault kino

The Vault provides consistent supplies and all the necessary accommodations for a hefty population of Dwellers. However, each individual has to sleep in a separate cubicle bedroom. These rooms all have a door on the opposite wall that are specially locked and can't be opened by the Dweller. There is a strict curfew in effect, and Dwellers will not be allowed out of their rooms during this time.
At any random point in time, in any given point during the scheduled bedtime, a group of people in black bodysuits and white masks will burst into the room from the locked door and beat the everloving shit out of the Dweller in the targeted room. This goes on for a few hours until the attackers abruptly leave. Only one bedroom and Dweller is targeted at any given night, and there is no correlation as to who they'll attack next. There is a chance one can be attacked several nights in a row.

Every ten years a video game competition is held. Anyone past the age of 18 must compete. The ultimate winner of the tourney becomes the Overseer, while the ultimate loser's brain is harvested and turned into a new computer to play video games.
Also, an AI Todd Howard will continue to pump out Elder Scrolls games for them to play. Any attempts to mod these games will lead to an execution by an enraged 7 foot tall Todd Howard robot.

Vault 303

Vault 303 has 100 dwellers in it and 50 pairs of shoes. Everyone is randomly given a left or right shoe. This is their only personal possession, to be passed down to their future generations as a valued heirloom. Stealing the shoes of others is frowned upon, but not enforced by law. Each dweller may take whatever steps necessary to protect their shoe.
