I'd rather it be affordable and "die" than stay where it was. I couldn't give less of a shit about triple A VR titles. They're all and always will be waggle garbage. Indie devs will continue to make VR games, even if it "dies" so long as there's a group that can afford them. They're the ones that might actually put out something game changing.
>>
>>383804490

I'd but one if there were actually enough games that used VR well. But right now there's a handful and they're all typically short.
>>
>>383804530
Only some bonus missions. VR is such a failure that they still won't design real full games around it and everything is just "testing the waters" for years now. They shouldn't have released it at $600.

I hope Valve can do something impressive with. That sounds more ambitious and optimistic than anything else I've heard about VR.

My issue with VR is that I don't it has to first person. Imagine playing an RTS where you're an eye in the sky and you're looking over the field like its a tabletop. I'd play that.
Or how about Dark Souls but you can look around as your character is moving? That solves the issueoif having to awkwardly hold a controller in order to keep an eye on the enemy while moving away

There's a free game that comes with the Oculus called Lucky's Tale. It's 3D platformer very similar to Mario games. The whole thing is 3rd person but you're free to look around at whatever you want. You can even lean in really close to look at Lucky and he'll react to your face. Seems like it would've been a great idea if not for the severity of the motion sickness.

I mean, if you want to think im defending nintendo go right ahead, but its not impressive to outsell something that is being marked up 120 dollars. If the rift was outselling a marked up switch while it wasn't on sale then ok; I guess it is doing well, but the Rift is still a lot of money for what it does and still needs a beefy computer

and for what?

so you could play indie vr games with no gameplay. Wowwwww
>>
>>383808549
No, it was $400 with a shitty gift card. Amazon charges tax so it was really $440.

You can get it on NewEgg for $400 and no tax right now, and I'd much rather than than a $100 giftcard

>vive goes on sale for $700 on amazon for prime day
>the best you can hope to find a used vive for on ebay or craigslist is $500-600

>rift does its own summer sale and offers a bundle with motion controllers and sensors for roomscale for $400 instead of $700
>bundle goes on sale for $385 plus an xbox controller and a $100 gift amazon gift card on prime day, effectively making it $285
Honestly, how can Valve even compete at this point? What do they think they can accomplish when the most discounted price they've ever offered is on par with the full retail price of Oculus Rift?
I've wanted a Vive all this time because it just seemed like the better hardware, but they just weren't competitive enough to get my purchase.

Even with 4 sensors it still jitters and loses tracking. Plus the wires running everywhere is annoying and limiting to the point that the maximum play area is half of what Vive's is.

You can really tell that roomscale is just an afterthought they tacked on later.

>>383807110
The reviewer consensus is that the Rift itself and its controllers are much more comfortable, and the screen is slightly sharper.

The Vive has more solid roomscale (the wires are less of a hassle, the playspace is much larger, and the wires are less ofa hassle), and some say the screen is slightly less screen doory.
>>
>>383810223
I got the Rift on sale and it's definitely costing me extra with hidden costs to get room scale support.

Extra sensor: $60
33ft USB extension for extra sensor: $30
16ft USB extension cable for other sensor: $15
HDMI + USB extension cable since Rift cable is 2 meters shorter: $15
USB 3.0 card for the extra slots I need: $22

This is just the 3 sensor setup too. I mean, I'm ok with it since I can use it for other stuff too but lots of people don't consider this
>>
>>383810973
still $200 cheaper than vive.
>>
Does it come with just one sensor or none? You only need two for room scale, right?
>>
>>383810726
Vive is the one that has more screen door. A trade off for a bit more FoV.

Vive has a brighter screen and handles god rays far better.
>>
>>383811090
rift + touch bundle includes 2 sensors.
>>
>>383811090
You can get away with two but will probably run into tracking hiccups. One sensor with the headset. One sensor with Touch. They want you to buy a third for room scale.
>>
>>383804490
This should have been the price at launch. The VR craze was 5 years too early. Headsets are too expensive to make, and the system requirements were too high for the average consumer at the time upon initial release. Oculus really fucked up by releasing the consumer Rift too early.
It just shows that you can have all the right cards and still lose if you don't know what you're doing.

Well I'm with the other guy that wouldn't shut up on this matter, in that I lost all interest in the OR when Facebook got involved. The fact that I have to check if an "Oculus Store" exists or not is a turn-off.

Are you insane. VR is more alive than ever. Get with the facts, oldman.

I don't think it's so much that the VR equipment is expensive so much as it is that there's fuck all for actual worthwhile games for it. You either get shovelware garbage, h-games, or games that shouldn't even fucking need VR in the first place to be able to play. Not even Sony has been able to put a VR seller out for PSVR, it just seems like they have that accessory for the sake of having one. VR as a whole is getting less meaningful usage these days than the DK Bongo controllers.

This is what most games are, and VR just adds on to it, like a racing wheel or HOTAS would.

One of the big appeals of the Rift when it was announced was for "cockpit" games, but that was back when it was estimated to be $300 tops, which was a steal compared to the cost of headtracking + a good monitor setup.
