I actually had a friend over and we played co-op in the game.

Now since the game is on PS2 with graphics at those levels I can understand why there is no splitscreen. Honestly the game still looks good today. But they didn't include system link either.

So we had to send packets out to "bobs server" and then get them back. It was a solid 2 second delay between actions. Not to mention we lagged out of more matches than we completed.

I guess its worth setting up but just temper your expections friend.

I mean I've played through multiple games already with it and rarely had problems. The only prominent ones are rare like items taking a few seconds to pick up or teleporting zombies. There's also a fix you can do to make loading times faster which helps a lot (I'll enter a door at the same time as somebody else or after and I know they don't have the fix because I will load into the next room before they do).

I liked that the Nemesis was a practical effect, and not an awful CG abomination like the lickers. Like the RE games themselves, the plot is completely bananas, the villains are total hams, the protagonists spout nonsensical dialog, no one's motivations make sense, and the action is joyfully stupid. It's impossible to not have fun watching that movie, it's laugh out loud fun from start to end. Definitely a movie to watch after a few drinks, and definitely with friends.

Bonus points if you're Canadian, and you got a kick out of them blowing up Toronto City hall at the end.

I get a strong feeling that this is what we are going to get. Possibly even RE6/Revelations style gameplay. Although I do think they will be resigning the levels to accommodate this change. So it will be a pretty bitter pill to swallow. They can easily defend their direction by telling people look we gave you the survival horror you wanted with slow moving zombies again. While also getting what they want and that is a remake that will appeal to a wider audience.

RE HD sold over 1 million copies digital only back in April 2015 and at the time was the biggest selling day one digital release on PSN ever. It came out in January so that was just 3 months of sales.
I think that shows that there is a large audience for classic RE games, and it performing so well is probably why RE2 Remaster got greenlit and exists at all. This is also for a rerelease of Remake since it first came out on Gamecube, and also came out on Wii, so a RE2 remaster would likely do much better than that.

In interviews that "we do it" guy specifically said that lessons they learned from doing Remake HD and RE0 HD were being applied to Remake 2. It wouldn't make sense for him to say that or for that team to even be responsible for Remake 2 unless if it was going to be in the same style as those 2 games.
Plus this way they have the Revelations style, the Classic style, and the RE7 style to make their RE games in. If they only cared about giant successes then they'd only do the mainline games and the Revelations games wouldn't exist in the first place.

Not played all of the games yet, but 6 goes full Hollywood action with Michael bay explosions, the whole shebang. But it's one of its strongest points, otherwise, you're left with pretty linear maps and forced coop shit. Like they separate your characters ALOT and it gets annoying. Other than that the gunplay is fucking tight and has a bit of depth, and by that I mean you combine actions and your character moves a little bit differently.

Pretty okay game, in my opinion, it's just radically different from the others.

True, but RE7 was made as its own new take on the series. There were no obligations for them to arbitrarily put in a control/presentation system from 2 decades ago. That's not the case for REmake 2, they have an old game to adapt and a lot of expectations to fulfill. Once they manage those, it's not hard to just add more enemies and ammo drops. Well they did hype it as being a return to the series' roots. And while it was much more horror focused, it was only RE in fits and spurts. If they had included such a mode, I bet some would have taken more of a shine to it.

REmake introduced the crimson heads, gave chimeras a much needed rehaul (they were just reskinned hunters before), made the mansion bigger, gave you 4 extra weapons, introduced the grenades/knives/tasers to break from a zombie's grasp, zombies are no longer pathetically easy to dodge etc, i'm sure they gave us some other cool things i don't remember.

Please PLEASE don't make it a first person scripted jumpscare walking simulator like seven, this was the only ps4 game i didn't keep after playing, i'd even take umbrella corps gameplay over it.

The series roots doesn't have to mean tank controls and needing to circumnavigate the globe to find the key to the toilet so you can take a piss. I'm betting on the idea they tried to diversify their approaches, RE7 was essentially an experiment in the horror atmosphere while the REmakes are the old-school control and presentation, the formula. Why put all your eggs in one toaster when both picklejars can make you shitloads of money?

Willing to bet if REmake 2 hits it big, we'll not just get REmake 3, but newer games will be a lot closer to the REmake formula.

Depends on how much it influences things. If the upgrade and treasure system it tried become more regular things (and by extension, the gradual expansion of the game world with backtracking), then it'll probably be remembered somewhat fondly. That is, if those elements are properly expanded on and utilized in a way that isn't as shallow as they were in RE7.

It's not really the epitome of evil that everyone makes it out to be. I found Leon's campaign more enjoyable than all of RE5 combined. His campaign is still actiony, but actually fun to play and the atmosphere in some of the early parts really brought me back to RE2.
Chris' was boring as shit, just a bad Gears of War clone with annoying bullet sponge enemies.
The rest is just ok. Not really anything worth playing again.
