HGH is painfully average, or just mediocre. I recently tried replaying it in hardmode only to quit shortly after the sandworm boss. The backtracking, rehashing the same areas and fetching items to fetch more items gets very dull.

Platforming is too simple, enemies are too simple, you mash buttons and you can become invincible before the final area. I'd rather play megaman or castlevania. At least the ost is banging.

I don't know how your eyes see 40k when it says 60k+ or what source you have for those console sales. Even though logically a game like Shantae would do better on consoles. Especially Switch which is full of millions of people that bought it for Zelda starved of games to play until the console library matures.

But aside from all that I'm not looking for Shantae to get almost mainstream success like Shovel Knight. As a fan from before the Kickstarter and Pirate's Curse I'm blown away with how big Shantae has gotten in the past few years. It used to be just Wayforward's little passion project. Some people liked the games, but the only notoriety they had was about how inaccessible they were to collectors looking for that $300 game boy cartridge. You looked online for Shantae art and all you'd get were some shitty deviantart pieces.

Now she's popular enough that there's no shortage of great fan art and people to talk to about the games. I even appreciate people who consider her popular enough to shit post in Shantae threads. So to be honest I feel spoiled when I think back to those old dark days before the kickstarter and before Pirate's Curse came out. If you'd ever loved something super obscure and wished it got popular than that's what happened to me. It feels awesome.
