Well the players of VLR went to imagine connections between all the bullshit stuff Uchikoshi dropped.

So he thought he could pull it off again by dropping unrelated COMPLEX stuff into the game hoping the community itself makes all the connections for him instead of him having to do the work.

This is why I think Uchikoshi is a hack and VLR is SHIT. Because it's only good due to not having a conclusion. All plotholes within the story could just be waived away by saying "Yeah that is going to get concluded in the sequel"

While 999 was actually a finished self-contained story. But I believe Kotaro "The hack" Uchikoshi was just very lucky with 999 and made a good story on accident

mastermind hijacks an experimental mars facility to get people in the mood to stop an unknown and unnamed terrorist that wants to wipe out humanity. At the end of the game literally every character(except for Delta and the dog[maybe?]) are capable of SHIFTing, something that was incredibly difficult to pull off in VLR and was exclusive to Phi and Sigma. After shooting the dog, everyone abandon ships to the timeline in which the american hero won the coin toss, skipping the entire game. Everyone now is capable of shifting and is super pumped to stop a terrorist or some shit and they team up with Delta to save the world(despite Delta having a quantum computer that could "quickly" figure out the identity of the terrorist but eh).
