So what job combinations did you settle on?
>>
Well I had decided that:

Vaan: monk/shikari
Penelo: white mage/black mage
Balthier: machinist/
Fran: archer/red Mage
Basch: ulhan/breaker
Ashe: knight/time Mage

With Ashe/Basch/Balthier planning to be the main party. Still haven't gotten Ashe.
When do we gain access to secondary classes?

Is it better to keep Ashe a knight due to her weapon choices in 12 or a breaker with bombs ala Revenant Wings?
>>
>>383782363
>Vaan: monk/shikari

I've just started the game and I'm thinking this as well, if not foebreaker. I reckon it's his lack of shirt that caters more to the martial artist jobs. I know Ashe will be a paladin, every one else is up in the air.
>>
>>383783183
Ashe is a bomb throwing time mage in the sequel.

You kids and your "job systems"

Back in my day we got 1 full table and dealt with it.
>>
I cant remember if this game is like 10 where you can switch characters in and out during fights or if its one of those pick a party of 3/4 and fuck the others ones?

Wanted to do Ashe as a Black Mage/Monk and Panelo as White Mage/Shikari but not even sure if il use both
>>
>>383783558

Yeah but it trivialized the game because every character had heals, spells, buffs, and etc, and you were never really challenged or pressured if a main healer died.
>>
>>383784068

You can swap characters in and out constantly.

In XII on PS2 though, I always grinded 3/4 characters up pretty damn high and used that as my core, and then eventually caught the rest up after finding ribbons for them and doubling their XP gains, or finding that item that gives them XP while not in party, i think. Might be wrong on that one.

Did they remove Effect Capacity?
I used a Black Mage in IZJS but all their powerful spells did was cockblock my White Mage from casting any heals. And that's a bit of an embuggerance when the bosses are casting their own high-priority spells and their damage besides is no joke.
>>
>>383784532
They did remove it.
>>
>>383784321

Great, then I am thinking...

Vaan - hunter/breaker
Fran - archer/red mage
Basch - Knight/Bushi
Panelo - white mage/shikari
Ashe - black mage/monk
balthier - knight/time mage

rate hate etc....
>>
Kinda shit that the game completely limits characters now

Also it's stupid that balthier is made for bows and Fran for guns why not give them they weapons to start with so stupid
>>
>>383782003
Ashe: White Mage/Time Mage
Balthier: Machinist/Uhlan(does some sick damage)
Fran: Archer/Red Mage
Penelo: White Mage/Black Mage
Vaan: Knight/haven't chosen yet
Basch: Bushi/haven't chosen yet but thinking of Breaker, Basch is the main melee dps and tank in my party.
>>
>>383784532
They did. Scathe all you want nigga

on the flipside you can't cheese bosses by exploiting the effect capacity anymore either.
>>
>>383784632
Thank you.
I might have to pick this up now.
>>
Vaan: Monk
Penelo: Black Mage
Ashe: Bushi
Basch: Knight
Balthier: Shikari
Fran: Foebreaker

not sure what to do for the second jobs, halp
>>

>Yeah but it trivialized the game because every character had heals, spells, buffs, and etc, and you were never really challenged or pressured if a main healer died.

That would only apply to the weak enemies throughout the game anon. Espers, Bosses and Marks would still challenge the player's team despite having full access to every skill on the License Board. There wasn't anything preventing the player for setting the "class" for each character. That's up to individual preference.
>>
Is it even worth going unarmed? I got the brawler skill in monk and i'm still doing way less damage than I do with the second staff you can get.
>>
>>383786591

How is it bad...
>>
So far:

Vaan: Uhlan
Ashe: Knight
Balthier: White Mage
Fran: Black Mage
Penelo: Red Mage
Bash: Breaker

Just going with the flow tbqh
>>
>>383786603

It adds more a challenge and gives your characters more individual importance in battle.

Vaan -Shikari/Foebreaker
Ashe- Monk/Black Mage
Fran - Machinist/White Mage
Balthier - Bushi/Knight
Basch - Uhlan/Time Battlemage
Penelo - Archer/Red Battlemage

This is the most optimal job combination I could think of that has good pairing, let's me use all 12 jobs and gives 3 Swiftness to all characters.
>>
>>383782363
You gain access to secondary classes after you smack belias AKA
>>
>>383787095
You need to unlock an esper that bridges the gap. As only one person can get the esper, you'll have to pick and choose. The good news is not every esper bridges to anything, but it might lead to two interesting things on two different characters and you have to choose who you want to have it and which has to not get it.
So basically it's impossible to 100% the license board for everyone.
>>
>>383786067
I like how Fran is in the ideal mating position in this art

>It adds more a challenge and gives your characters more individual importance in battle.

Not really, since each class is determined by different players' standards, who have various ideas on what class-system works best for each of the 6 characters (which when it's analyzed/categorized holistically can be seen as subjective preference or taste; rather than an essential game-mechanic). However, what I was trying to say in my previous comment was that in the original FFXII, you can impose the challenge on yourself (without having to wait for remastered edition to be released) through how the player ultilizes their License Points for each character to act in a certain role. It's down to individual choice.
>>
>>383785908
Do you own the IZJS from the PS2 days? If so, wait for Zodiac age to drop in price. It doesn't offer anything you couldn't get from an Emulator aside from a HD lift and a 2nd class.

>>
>>383794820
Guessing right is the remaster cos of the black lines
Dunno, doesn't look that bad, considering the original had really nice graphics for it's time and they even hold up good nowadays, don't think they could've done much more without actually remaking the game
>>
>>383782363
I'm also going with this.

No way I'm going to have Balthier be a faggy white mage.
>>
I honestly have absolutely no idea of what I'm doing in XII, but I'm also only a couple of hours in. I only just got Balthier and Fran. Is it important to make sure party members are set to jobs that emphasize their best stats i.e Balthier as a physical attacker, or does it not matter a whole lot even if you're aiming to do end-game shit?
>>
>>383785719
Wait.
What's effect capacity?
Is it that when I cast big spells they stay in que waiting for the previous spell to finish?
>>
>>383795103
It doesn't really matter. There is a difference between characters stat wise, but is minimal, for example vaan basically excels in every job while fran is the total opposite, but I bet you don't want to compromise stare to that Viera's ass in favor of optimal party setups.

In conclusion, pick whatever you feel like and you will be fine, the game's more about leveling and getting the right gear and there's like tons of strategies for every post-game encounter anyway.
>>
>>383795304
Effect Capacity is a thing that prevents so many spells from going off.

The effect capacity limit was 8. Most spells were capacity 1/2 which had no real problems but if you wanted to cast big spells like Holy or Scathe, they had a capacity of 8 meaning you literally will be stuck waiting while casting if any other spell was being cast.

This was removed in the PS4 version.
>>
>>383795338
Well, that's good. I just wanna make sure I'm not making any gamebreaking decisions, or decisions that would make end-game content extremely difficult to do properly.
>>
Does it make any difference which job you pick first?

Like white mage/black mage, black mage/ white mage?
>>
>>383795103
when you get Larsa don't go do the main quest grind instead, its way easier since you have a temp 4th character.

level up, do the hunts, sell loot, but look up what grimoires are and keep some for that...
>>
>>383795509
HOLYFUCKINGSHIT
THE BEST FUCKING UPGRADE
>>
Let us talk about the Final Fantasy timeline. Does it exist? Are there parallel universes? Was is Ivalice trapped inside of a story book in Tactics Advance?
>>
>>383782003

Not trying to cause any console wars shitposting, but is there any word on a PC release for this yet? Given Square's track record lately, I assume that it'll make it over eventually but I'm curious.

I enjoyed it a lot when it first hit the PS2, and it would give me a good excuse to revisit it.
>>
can I just confirm something lads, is the remake the job system version? is there an option for the other one, the one I have on ps2?

>>383795689
kind of,
the void says yes,
the book is the "real world"s portal to ivalice.
>>
>>383795548
In the original zodiac edition not having a white mage was kinda of fucked up since you can only rely so much on Knight's and red mage's heals (or items), but in this version you can dual job so you can have virtually every job spread around the 6 members.

>>383795689
Ivalice has a timeline, which is:

FF12 -> Revenant Wings -> FFTA2 ----------------------------------> FFT. FFT takes place in the far future after a calamity, most races die and civilization regresses to a medieval one

FFTA takes place canonically before FFTA2 (as Mewt is Luso's teacher), but the Ivalice in FFTA is a fabrication twisted on the real world created by the Grimoire while the Ivalice in FFTA2 is the real ivalice that Luso is transported to.
>>
>>383795825
>is the remake the job system version
Yes.

>is there an option for the other one, the one I have on ps2?
No.
>>
>>383793428
>>383793703
Virtuos does it again.
>>
>>383795905
Question: How is Cloud in Final Fantasy Tactics?

Hardmode: do not say "fan service"
>>
>>383795689

All Final Fantasy worlds are parallel universes that are connected through the void.

I never understood though if the Ivalice from FFTA2 was a copy of FFXII's Ivalice like FFTA or if it was indeed FFXII's Ivalice.

You can say because Al Cid, Vaan and Penelo are there then it has to be the same Ivalice from FFXII, but Montblanc is also in both FFTA and FFXII's Ivalice.

So I say, FFTA2's Ivalice is the imaginary Ivalice like FFTA's and because I want FFTA2 to go to hell because of how shitty it is.
>>
>>383795965
thanke. remaster dropped then I guess, I can deal with that, ps2 version is good enough.
>>
Is Black Mage/Red Mage even a viable combination? If not, what do I combine Black Mage with on Penelo?
>>
>>383795862
Can I get away with taking on more of a supportive buffer/healer type role or would I be better off leaving that to a party member while I take on an offensive role? I was thinking of either going Black or Red Mage with something else to compliment it.
>>
>>383796118
I played IZJS on PS2 years ago and I loved it. If you don't want to buy the remaster, then at least try IZJS via emulator or something. I love it better than the original, but then again I love job systems in my jrpgs.
>>
Is there anyway to make a character be able to equip any weapon ?

For example if I make Fran a black mage/samurai is there any way for later in the game to make her equip bows ? Some equipment or License ?
>>
>>383796240
Support jobs can at least get more use with having a secondary job. White and Time mage left a lot to be desired combat wise besides their utility, so you can compliment them with an offensive secondary job. or pick that job first and use White/Time Mage as a secondary.
>>
>>383796118
>ps2 version is good enough.
This. IZJS and Zodiac age are just fluff. The core game is the same and it's still merely average.
>>
>>383796406
>Is there anyway to make a character be able to equip any weapon ?
Only way is to emulate it.
>>
>>383796414
Okay, cool. I'm only a couple of hours in so I might restart and plan out my jobs a bit better.
>>
>>383796320
I literally don't want restrictions, do you realise how annoying it is to make a multiclass mage with restrictions?

the only annoying thing about the original is you can fuck up and miss the zodiac spear, but once you know its basically impossible to fuck up.
>>
>>383796224
I would argue Black/White Mage is viable

BLM gives access to Staff of the Magi which buffs the damage Holy can do.

>>383796406
No, but some jobs have access to a few things that they normally shouldn't by unlocking espers that bridge to some floating licenses. Black Mage for example can use some bombs by unlocking Mateus, Adrammalech and Hashmal.
>>
Could the costumes for your characters change along with the class? I would understand that it wouldn't due to ps2 hardware restrictions. Wanted to see Fran as a lewd black mage.

To be detailed, you get it on a chest on Henne Mines with 1% chance of spawning but 100% chance of containing the spear. To unlock this area of Henne Mines, you need to have 10 espers and talk to a Garif, and he will give you the key. Keep in mind the game has a 4x speed button, and chests respawn with only 1 screen away instead of 3 like in vanilla.
You can also get one from the trophy hunts. After Archades, you can go back to Phon Coast to talk to some bangaas, and 30 trophy rare monsters will spawn all over the world. After you kill them, you'll get a trophy. There's 3 bangaas you can give the trophies there, Power, Defense and Technique (if I'm not mistaken). If you give 10 for each bangaa, or more trophies to Power, you'll get a Zodiac Spear. Be aware when killing the trophy monsters, since they only spawn once, and you can steal Tournesol materials from them.
>>

Alright. I have all six people, since I just got to the desert.
Who should my main party be? Here are my people:

Fran: Uhlan
Ashe: Red Mage
Currently using Vaan Basch Ashe.
>>
>>383797409
And if anyone's going to complain and say "emulated original looks better than the remaster what a fucking joke," it also feels terrible to play due to a couple tenths of a second input lag, especially in menus. PCSX2 just isn't a very good emulator, and no amount of res upscaling can change that fact.

>>383797535
Fixed in Zodiac Age.
>>
I'm emulating the PS2 version so no second job for me.
I have a question, I just got the full party together, will they separate again? Do you recommend I just stick to the same three characters all game? Dunno why I didn't play this earlier, it's so good.
>>
>>383797584
Yeah you basically have an option between the Zodiac Spear, Zodiac Escutcheon, and Ribbon. You basically get one of these (by turning in 16 trophies to one) while you get the Staff of the Magi, Ensanguined Shield and Sage's Ring from the other two (meaning if you get the Spear, you get the ensanguined shield and sage's ring from the other two)
>>
>>383797862

I think certain portions of the game that aren't very long have them split a bit for dungeons. You get guest characters a lot like Larse who I felt like was with you a very long time.
>>
>>383789045
Does it still have 50k health compared to the other 2 having 7-8k? That was the most intense fight for me for a while just because I REALLY needed to save when I found it, not expecting a full on boss battle style fight.
>>
>>383797980
Alright, I'll just keep switching them around to keep them around the same level until the endgame, then. Leveling feels really slow and everyone gets LP, so it's not too big a deal.

You can, when they're not being targeted by an enemy. Though you can sometimes remove enemy targeting by unequipping the character in question, and the red is removed from their names.

Just about every other FF game got ported to PC, so it's only a matter of time before this one crosses over as well. They probably just want to wait in order to give the PS4 the advantage, since Squeenix is still primarily a Sony developer in many ways.
>>
>>383783558
>dealt with it
Everyone just became good at anything in the original, there were no restrictions whatsoever. At least in IZJS you may have to "deal with" not picking the optimal classes because you didn't read guides beforehand.
>>
>>383797904
getting endgame items is the most bullshit part about this game

I only have 1x lordly robe/circlet and have to keep equip changing it every time I switch characters, and unless you want to commit to farming 100+hours into the game everyone else has to settle with shitty 2nd rate gear
>>
>>383798101

LOL bruh what do you mean u want more than being stuck to a job system? Just replay the game if you want xD

How the fuck do people praise a game that was nerfed as a superior version of the game? Nigga if the original was too ez for you why didn't you just handicap your bitch ass to not use features to break the game. And are happy when devs decide to take away your rights and bend you over with a job system?
>>
So i'm really, really on the edge about getting this game. Convince me to but the game.

I was only 13 when the original came out and thought the combat looked boring as fuck, but now the gambit system seems pretty satisfying. I love the style and characters, and especially adding in the job system too. But i still fear the game will bore me a bit. How much agency is there to the combat?
>>
So the only bad things about the remaster are
>stupid black box in cutscenes
>some hair textures look shit
>some areas are way too dark
Unless there's something I've missed this seems pretty solid, especially compared to the garbage X/X-2 remaster.

If it makes it better, I hated this game back when I was 16.
Now I love it, I think it's a game that is not targeted at teenagers. I learned to enjoy the slow pace of the game, the detail of it all, as well as the politics, something that I could not when I was a teen.

I advise you to emulate it, try it for a few hours then decide if it's worth to buy or not.

I've been playing the original PS2 version and I only have 4 Espers left and the hunts/rare game in the 2nd halves of Great Crystal and Pharos left, but my autism is waning. I went to fight Chaos and got wrecked due to his stipulation (I've got the nihiloapoa, I just forgot it was on and megalixered twice like a goon).

Someone convince me to keep on trying to do as much as I can in this game. I'm afraid all the stuff I've got to do now is gonna result in similar deaths with an hour of gametime or more lost each time I wipe. I also missed out on the first 2 pieces of Genji gear from a certain fight so I'm kinda bummed about my save being less than 100%. Why did they put so much content into this game T-T

Balthier is monk because he punched them seeqs in the dungeon
Basch is Archer because he fought with a bow during the invasion

How hard would it be to do a FF12 online like PokeMMO? Ignoring the fact that Square would nuke it like they did with the Chrono Trigger remake.
I always find myself autisting about a FF12 online where you choose a model from every model in the game, and choose the motions and stats from the six characters in the game. Maybe Reddas too if there was a dual wield class. Seeq, Bangaa, Baknamy, Yemsa and Garif would be limited by the weapons they use in the game, since human animations wouldn't fit.
You would pick two jobs like in ZA, towns and orange crystals maps would be the only gathering place where you could make a party of four max. Hunts would be repeatable, and there would be some custom ones harder than normal, and some espers too. Hardcore belias would drop his staff for example.
I would play the shit out of it.

There were Delita POV battles on PSP/mobile though, which means that law route could definitely be viable, even if it's not exactly like Ramza's route and has more story scenes.

He didn't learn anything from Delita though. Ramza continued as dumb and idealistic as he was from the beginning, and only survived the events of the game because he was the protagonist.

14 is not set in Ivalice, it is Eorzea although there is a upcoming raid for Ivalice I believe. Only Ivalice games have been FFT, FFXII,and to an extent FFTA series and Vagrant Story perhaps. I never played FFTA2 but in FFTA, the world is transformed into the world from a story the kids read which tells of Ivalice so that is why you see the same races and such in those games. The only two games I KNOW are canonically connected are FFXII and FFT where FFXII takes place long before FFT and by the time FFT takes place, all technology has been lost to time and ruin (which is why you fight in the airship graveyard towards the end of the game).

One thing I'd like to clear up.

So Rasler died in the Nalbina Fortess battle.
Then Basch took his corpse to Dalmasca for the funeral.

Then Basch just went back to Nalbina with Reks and co. to ruin the peace agreement was that it ? I don't understand how it seems everything in the prologue happens in Nalbina.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the ultimate job allocation for the ultimate autist - balanced between min/maxing and lore (including licenses that espers unlock, leaning more towards min/maxing).
My main party is Basch, Ashe, Penelo.
>>
>>383805323
I made Penelo a redmage and she's been unstoppable so far. That dark magic really fucks things up in the beginning.
>>
>>383805694

Pay attention to the narrator. Some time is set between the fall of Nalbina and the peace treaty. The Knights of Archadia still was fighting against the Empire when they were recalled to Rabanastre since the King was forced into a peace treaty. When they returned is when Basch found out about the assassination attempt and rushed out to Nalbina again to stop it.
>>
>>383805510

I didn't say it was hard. But it was Battletoads compared to Zodiac Age. You become more powerful at several times the rate in IZJS since the tiles on the License Board cost the same but give far bigger upgrades since there are fewer of them. The speed-up button also makes grinding so fast and effortless that you naturally do more of it, making you even more powerful, and they also removed the damage limit so your attacks do several times more damage at endgame. Then Zodiac Age gives you another entire license board on top for each character, without upgrading the enemies to compensate.

It's completely braindead now.

I don't know much of anything about the FF12, but when I first started playing FF14, I saw Gaius van Baelsar and Nael van Darnus and originally thought "Oh, are these guys Judges?" because Garlean armor looks very similar to Judge armor - also I think the same artist worked on both games.

The Garleans in FF14 are a race that was bullied by the rest of the Eorzean races because they can't manipulate Aether and use magic. So instead they become Nazis and create Magitech and have a goal of advancing their magic through Allagan studies and taking over the rest of Hydaelyn - believing that they are the superior race.
Also: something something beastmen, something something Primals, something something Acians. It's all explained more or less but I can't be bothered to remember.

In the narration of Ondore, which like Arazlam's recountings is after the fact, he says that Archadia occupies Nalbina, which is already at Dalmasca's doorstep, and the knights which Basch and Vossler are captains of mount a counter-attack but are largely defeated by the Archadian army. Then the Empire agreed to meet in Nalbina Fortress to sue for peace with the king of Dalmasca, and that's the part where you control Reks.

Having to plan out 2 boards, considering the usage of 3/4 quickening slots/12 espers between 6 characters to get your desired builds is hardly braindead. Not to mention there's a trial mode. As it stands, most people willl and are having fun with this game. Many of us played it when we were literally in our teens and are revisiting it again for the first time. Others its the first time and they're getting to play an ultimate less tedious and refined version of the vanilla game (have a friend playing it for the first time and he now insists every JRPG should have the speed-up button). Mechanics aside, the world of ivalice, music, feel, and atmosphere, is still as amazing as ever.

For "purists" like yourself, the original game exists, and you can even emulate it to nearly the visuals, if not better in some regards.

I have to agree with others that the original is perfectly fine if you want the FFXII experience. I already gave each character a specific role or job naturally by giving consideration when spending xp rather than aim to master everyone in everything, that shit just isn't sensible for a normal playthrough unless you enjoy the rpg grind that usually breaks any game like this. The HD upgrade might be worth it but a lot is just upscale anyway outside the character models.

On paper, no it's not. But the problem is the game is so easy that none of that fucking matters because you can steamroll everything with any combination. Any time spent trying to optimize is wasted time.
>>
first time playing, how did they go from this to 15? i dont understand, the first city is better than any city 15 had, blows my mind how they went backwards.

also the gameplay, jesus its amazing. at the end of 15, youre doing the same shit you were doing at the start of the game. hold attack, press block QTE, warp strike here and there, use POTIONS when you "die", all the way to the end. 12, I'm a few hours in (just got out of the dungeon with basch) and the gameplay keeps getting better, you get more and more gambits and wrap your head around the system. quests are retarded "find dogtags in the bushes" x10, you actually have to kinda "hunt" down the monsters based on the npc dialogue a bit. im having a blast, and there still quickenings and summons and a second job to delve into later?

i cant help but keep comparing it to 15, how was that acceptable when they had already made something with the production values 12 had on the fuckin ps2.

Maybe? The Allagans, an Ancient technologically advanced race, are closer to the Dwemer - or more accurately - closer to Halo's forerunners than the Garleans were. The Garleans more or less based a good portion of their technology on Allagan technology.
So if we were to continue with the Halo analogy, the Garleans are kind of like the Covenant in that respect without the religious overtones, and their origins are more like the Dwemer.

Well, for starters, it's different teams. Ivalice team has alwas been making amazing games, even if XII was flawed and could use some more work, and that's coming from someone who's logged almost 1000 hours collectively to the game.

It's clear the XV devs were looking to XII, and that's because that's the springboard from which FF should've headed after it. But XIII was made by the same people that made X, and they make completely different games, story-heavy, linear, less player choices. It also helps that XII was developed not only by the Ivalice team, but Hiroyuki Ito was behind the entire combat system, inspired by Vagrant Story's. I just hope XVI is being developed by Ito because I couldn't take another XIII of any kind.

linear hallway with about 100 points of no return with only one disappointing large zone for generic kill monster quests.
its back to being turn based
but all strategy boils down to team construction with mmo roles (tank, dps, healer + buff and debuffer) and mashing auto attack
and you can only control 1 character
and if that character dies its game over
and the whole cast sucks.

Amazing game 10/10

XIII is wholly, completely diametrically opposed to everything that XII does. There are some people who will look at the merits of both (I personally find almost nothing to enjoy in any of the XIII games) and be able to enjoy both, but XII is more the kind of game I really enjoy. In fact, it has my favorite party-based combat system out of any RPG I've ever played, second or equal perhaps to Infinity Engine RPG combat, which is almost the same save for being played with a controller. And of course, the Gambit System, which is really for inactive characters, but it still allows you to fully control them.

Compare that to XIII, which also has something similar to Gambits, but you can't edit them or control your other party members at any time, and I absolutely hate that.

IZJS is far easier than the original game though.

Not him but, are you implying XII is not turn-based? ADB is an evolution of ATB, both created by Hiroyuki Ito, and both are turn-based combat systems, though each one incorporating an element of real time to it. ADB took it a step further and melded it with Vagrant Story and thus XII was born.

If you want to do that, you should probably start playing now. You have a lot of catching up to do before it releases in a couple of months, and if you're not ready when it comes out you'll miss the boat on discussions and getting to learn the fights along with everyone else.
>>
>>383807317
13 is a step down. The only thing good about 13 is the visual production value and some of the soundtrack and also Sazh I guess since he's the only one that actually feels like a written character in that game.

>>383807851
Might as well jump on it now.
If you're wanting to do any raid content you'll need to get a class to level 70, learn how to play said class effectively, gear up for appropriate iLevel, and also finish A Realm Reborn, Heavensward, and Stormblood's Main Scenario Quests. That'll take you about two months if you really put your mind to it, which would only be about the price of the full version of the game and 1 month sub.

If you REALLY want to be there fast, you can pay for fairly expensive Level and Story jump potions on MogStation, but you'll be teased, mocked, and also hated by people in-game for doing so and also not knowing how to play the job you picked.

You've got options. But time needs to be put into it if you want to do it the normal way. Also friends or an FC to help ferry your ass everywhere through content. You'll probably have a lot of fun though when you get to it.

13's only worthwhile quality is its battle system, which unfortunately only really opens up about halfway into the game. Everything else sucks. The game is extremely linear compared to FF12, the characters are annoying, the art direction is uninspired, there aren't many cities to explore, the music sucks (opinion), and the story isn't interesting. 12 is divisive because it's not as focused on characters (although there is some interesting characterization, although it's subtle and is tied to their position in the conflict), the plot is hard to follow unless you pay attention, and most people don't appreciate the battle system since it's more about setting up a plan and watching it play out than making decisions on the fly (although bosses will force you to do so). It allows you to cut out trivial decision making to let you focus on the bigger ones.
>>
>>383808538

>>
>>383807317
13 is completely different compared to 12.

In 13, 90% of the game you run through a one way corridor with strategically positioned enemies that will give you enough experience to never be underleveled while at the same time have level caps all throughout the game so that you can never level above what level the developers intended to you to be at.

The gameplay is typical Final Fantasy ATB, but you can only control your party leader. There are like 7 or so roles that your characters can switch between in battle. The whole combat system revolves around the "stagger" system which means you use the "stagger" role on 1-3 characters until the enemy becomes staggered and then you change to your dps role to kill the enemy.

The whole plot revolves about being on the run from the authoritarian government which means that you never visit any towns and interact with people. You only go from one monster infested area to the next.

Final Fantasy 10 has a similar "corridor" problem, but at least that game has interesting world building that actually lets you visit towns and a significantly better story in my opinion. People are going to give me shit for praising 10's story, but no one can deny that it is significantly better than 13 which says a lot about 13.

Don't bother with Final Fantasy 1-3, they are archaic pieces of shit that haven't aged well, even the remasters/remakes are mediocre as shit. Final Fantasy 4 should be considered the first game.

>>

There's no difference between those things. Zodiac Age came out just now so there's discussion on /v/ about it. In a couple months, the Ivalice raid will come out so there will be discussion on /v/ about it. If you want to be there for when the discussions are fresh, of course you have to play the game at that time.

You can still play old content in FF14 at any time like a single player game. But it won't be the same as being there when it's new.

>>
>>383808889
Not that anon, but the HUD system for 14 is pretty versatile and extremely accessible with a controller - the only real downsides being there are things that a mouse specifically can do faster.

And to be frank, yeah. you might not have all that much time. though you've got about a year before the Ivalice raid will be complete.
The 24 and 8 man Raid content in FF14 are released in three parts. Usually the 8 man raid is released the first part, than three months later the first part of the 24 man will be released. Etc for part 2 and 3 for both.

If you start soon, you can at least be there for the second or third parts of Ivalice but 'miss' the first part.

I did play XBC and enjoyed it, but nowhere near as much as XII. Because I love a lot of things about XII and how it all comes together, not just the combat. I also enjoyed Dragon Age: Origins because of the combat, but enjoyed the story and world less than I did XII's Ivalice. Though I must admit, my love for XII stems from my love of Vagrant Story, so that's one of the biggest contributing factors too.

I have been defending the story of FFX online for over a decade. There are still people to this day that don't understand the point of Tidus' character and his impact on the story. They somehow think Yuna is the protagonist and compare him to Vaan, who could be removed from the story and it would make little difference.
>>
>>383809951
really manufactures the ol' nethecite
>>
>>383810240
Heavy armor increases strength, mystic armor increases magic. Don't really remember what light armor increases, avoid or something.
>>
>>383810265
thought vaan's role in 12's story is not as prominent as tidus in 10, i disagree that hes inconsequential to the plot, his role is a lot more subtle and i enjoyed that kind of "protagonist", even on the merit that they went for something different, theres room for improvement of course, but you can say that about anything
>>
I remember very well that in my first playthrough, Penelo had more magic than my Ashe. Played all game with mystic armor on Penelo and heavy armor on Ashe, but I don't remember if I switched around her armors to test their stats. Maybe using one kind of armor affects stat growth, or am I just misremembering?
>>
>>383810016
You can play the game solo just fine, but it's better to have friends to play with or join an in-game freecompany to join that's willing to help you and teach you shit.

He just feels shoehorned. There is better ways to execute the "inconsequential protagonist" thing.

>You become more powerful at several times the rate
not true, avoid hyperbole
>speed-up button also makes grinding so fast and effortless that you naturally do more of it
stop projecting, people who grind will grind, people who don't won't, it's a conscious decision
>Zodiac Age gives you another entire license board on top for each character
As far as I understand, the limitation is still LP, so the progress as far as acquisition of skills should be similar, although perhaps less efficient due to their placement
The only real "braindead" change is the license boards are now templates that you can follow, when in the original that was entirely up to you.
>>
Are second class the only new thing that are differerent from ps2 aside from MUH graphic? What are those second class? Are they significant enough?
>>
>>383810820
>Also, is Vaan the only character you control inside towns?
Yeah, I wish that's something they had changed for this version, let you keep using your party leader in towns, and just switch to the appropriate models during certain cutscenes or something I guess.
>>
so I'm a bit confused on some minmaxing capabilities now that there is dual jobs.

Lets say I make somebody one job and learn their quickenings, once I unlock the second job, what if there are licenses locked behind the quickening slots? Those are just permanently unobtainable aren't they?

Kinda feels gimped, I mean I know you get the benefits of that second job but some of those added licenses are BIG deals
>>
>people talking about optimal job set-ups
>other people complaining that the game is too easy so optimal job setups don't matter.

Here's a thought: What are the LEAST optimal set-ups?
>>
>>383810240
Key points for armor are:
- does it boost a stat and by how much
- does it boost elemental damage
- does it protect from elemental damage
- does it grant a positive status
>>
>>383810975
There's 12 classes, one for each sign of the Zodiac, but in IZJS, you could only choose one per character. Now, you can choose two and you could have all available jobs distributed across all the characters. I just wish they had made a secret class unlocked later in the game that was something like Freelancer or something like that, Onion Knight, I don't know, a job that could use anything. It would still fit too, because there is a 13th Zodiac sign that appears in both XII and FF Tactics, Serpentarius/Ophiuchus in the form of the Esper/Lucavi Zodiark, and Elidibus in FFT.
>>
>>383810975
Second class just means you get more options for customization. In the original if you wanted to heal with your black mage you couldn't, but in this one the option is now there by picking BLM/WHM.

Why does Bushi have so many MP licenses when I can't use magic?
>>
>>383812976
If you mean magic power, it's because Katana damage scales with physical and magic power.

Bushi and Red Mage are solid choices for magic focused characters because Maces and Katanas scale to magic strength.

Yes but you'll quickly be defeated at lvl 1. I only got til stage 11 so far and from what I can tell each stage is a throwback (or spoiler) for fights on the game. Lvl 1 are literally the sewer rats you kill with vaan during the first minutes of the game. Stage 10 is the first esper fight. You can save your game every 10 stages, but since the game has auto save, no real progress is lost. If you need quick license points in the beginning I'd do this trial as the enemies shit LP in there. I was able to manage to get to stage 10 way before I fought my first esper in the main story. A run from lvl 1 to 10 gives about 150 LP give or take

Ultimate question I still don't really have an answer for

What is overall a better combo for a party that doesn't have a lot of healing available (+no items/deaths)

BLM/Monk or BLM/RBM

Red + Black seems to have a lot of overlap and only thing that you really gain is Ardor + Red Robes

Monk + Black has Holy + Robes and a lot more hp + swiftness

Are hunts even weak to oil? I know that the combo does the most overall damage but I feel like 90% of all "elites" are immune to it.

It's been 3 hours and I haven't moved a step because I'm second guessing all my dual classes

Firemane is really easy, but first Demonwall is tricky, but doable on low levels. Maybe Vossler or Judge Ghis perhaps, because It's hard to grind out in the airship, so that could make it XII's version of, I don't know, Gafgarion.

Is there anything missable in this? Can I continue the story without doing hunts?

>>383825346
Wot you say, m8?
>>
>>383825060
There's a few more aswell.

>The dungeon arena
>Ba'Gamnan
>Great crystal in general

>>383825404
Duno, I found it pretty easy to get chains going i nthe ship and they gave hi potions aswell.

Alright, cool.

Is there a list of all bosses I should be using Steal on? I always hated the steal mechanic in FF games, and outside of Gilgamesh is there anything that stands out?

I don't remember this dual clases bullshit and I played it on ps2 when this came out

In another timeline the staff was like "we all like Gria from FFTA2, let's put in the effort for a new model for them in Zodiac Age" and we'd be ogling cute dragongirls who are superior to Bangaa and Seeq in every way.
>>
Ashe is so fucking royal
>>
>>383826421
Probably because its new,
>>
>>383826608
what
>>
>>383826421
It's one of the new things added to The Zodiac Age, essentially multiclassing but you can't change jobs after you assign them. They also added a 4x speed when you press the speedup button they added in IZJS, and also a new overlay map like in Doom, so you don't have to be going into the map to orient yourself.
>>
>>383826072
The only boss you need to care about stealing from is Gilgamesh, look him up before you fight him. Stealing is mostly for vendor trash in this game, it's how you make money.
>>
Psst, final fantasy tactics advance 2: grimoire of the rift is objectively the B E S T FF tactics game
>>
So I finally managed to kill this faggot trick Star chocobo but the npc bro died. Does it even matter if they survive the battle? I checked the clan house and he's back, standing in his corner
>>
>>383785892
blackmage/ red mage
knight/ time mage
>>
>>383826072
I would strongly recommend setting up a Enemy:100% HP - Steal Gambit and putting it on an AI. Will get you vendor money, bazaar ingredients and high level weapons fairly regularly.
>>
>>383826943
>being this much of a pleb
>>
>>383827651
Wouldn't it be better with a >80/90% gambit? I seem to remember the AI ignoring steal too much.
>>
>>383827869
Your memory is faulty.
>>
Vaan Shikari/
Basch Knight/Foebreaker
Balthier Mechanist/Black mage
Penelo White mage
Fran Archer/Red mage
Ashe Green mage/Sam
Not sure if I want to go monk or spear class for penelo second job, Vaan will get the remaining one
>>
This won't take a whole year to come out on PC like the X/X-2 HD Remaster did after releasing on PS4, will it?
>>
>>383801890
ass sweat and shit
>>
>>383828379
Perfect.
>>
>>383828212
just play it on emulator
>>
>>383793428
Why does this remaster look almost exactly the same as the game emulated? Did they not bother to add extra details to anything? In some ways the game looks better emulated, although I do like the lack of weird ghosting and the improved text/UI resolution.
>>
>>383828849
I don't like having ugly UI, and the ability to be restricted to two class systems intrigues me.
>>
zodiac age dumbs down ff12 to unplayable. Takes away any difficulty the game had and puts retarded arbitrary mmorpg restrictions on your dudes because square enix likely want to shill their equally shitty mmo. Its funny with these pc ports that add stuff like 10x speed up because square enix knows nobody wants to play through their shit.
>>
>Make Ashe a Bushi
>the way she holds that fucking sword
I've made a mistake
>>
>>383829546
She's literally the best samurai in the game
>>
>>383829671
But the animation looks so silly
>>
>>383829517
>somehow not being able to run around with 6 omnipotent dudes that can use literally every skill in the game makes the game more easy

/v/ truly is retarded
>>
>PCSX2 has ghosting problems, lower res UI, lower res FMVs, less texture filtering, and worse lighting
>Remaster has black bars on cutscenes and excessive blurring in backgrounds during cutscenes
Why is nothing ever perfect?
>>
>>383829938
zodiac age you are omnipotent with the class trees making the game over in difficulty from the get go. You still technically have restrictions in the original game unless you spend forever grinding.
>>
>not giving the characters the same classes that they had in Revenant Wings
>>
>>383782003

Right now I'm thinking

Vaan: Knight -> Time Mage
Penelo: Archer -> Red Mage
Balthier: Bushi -> Uhlan
Fran: Monk -> Black Mage
Ashe: Shikari -> White Mage
Basch: Foebreaker -> Machinist

If I did my research right, everyone will get access to 3x swiftness without the use of an esper Everyone has access to one or two of the weapons they are fastest with, the exception being Penolo who uses bows as well as anyone else and will mostly be a supporting healer/mage

Van, Balthier, and Basch will all be able to equip genji equipment and any heavy armor, really. Ashe will also be extra tanky with the ability to use knives and shields. Fran will max magic with blackmage and the monk vocation will give her lots of HP. Basch and Balthier mostly be DPS

I figure this is the best set up if I wanna run an all girls or all dudes team or mix and match everyone since I have so many healing options.
>>
>>383830202
>implying I played that garbo
Was it good? Isn't it a RTS kinda game?
>>
just started playing this and I'm already stuck in hell tryin to pick a job for Vaan. At least I know I want Fran to be a monk - those flashkicks she does with Brawler are too sick to pass up imo

I do want to replay ffxii. I just opened pcsx2 and I had this on as my save state from years ago. Should I stick with the emulated izjs or get the ps4 version. I don't really care about double classes tbqh.
>>
>>383830382
Its a casualized RTS with RPG mechanics. Despite that, its pretty gud. At least worth it for the lore and story, as well as seeing Vaan become an actual main character. B'gamnan also joins your party briefly and he's fun to have around.

In it, Ashe uses bombs, Penelo is a healer, Vaan and Basch are swordsman, Balthier is a gunner, Fran an archer, Kites a mage, and Filo fights with a flying surfboard.
>>
>>383830702
>>383830382
And Llyud uses spears.
>>
>>383800480
They did the same thing in 7, 8 and 10, nothing new there.
Still job systems are more fun for me. There is personality in jobs that "do your own build" lacks.
>>
furthermore zodiac age inserts retarded mmorpg meta shit into final fantasy. Due to characters having different animation speeds and stat spreads being optimal for certain classes. They go through all this effort putting this class shit in when its way less entertaining then the sphere grid in ff10
>>
>>383829671
not with those slow ass attack animations she isn't
