I love the improved battle interface and controls, but its encounters feel the most boring in the series.

I bought this a few days ago, I'm really enjoying so I've got P4 on vita ready once I'm done. I wish this game was on switch though.

Any other recommendations for games like this? I'm not much of a weeb outside of a few Suda games and Nintendo which doesn't really count.

You also definitely gotta try Catherine. It's a really fun and addictive puzzle game with an incredibly tight atmosphere and visuals.

With the most "modern" ones, yeah. The most notable difference between P5 and the older games it that they don't have that fancy UI and control scheme, and that they aren't nearly as story based. Also the different series have different quirks that set them apart, so while they're similar, they're still not identical games.

Pick up the game with the setting that looks more interesting for you and work your way from there.

These kinds of posts upset me because I genuinely really like P5 but this just creates more animosity towards it.

I'm playing it right now, and like a good book it's hard to put down, but that doesn't mean there isn't anything wrong with it.
For one most of the game is just a visual novel. At times I find my self skipping dialogue. I like building my stats, but some take forever and that can be pretty annoying too.
Then there is momentos, there just isn't variety in the area, same hallways same aesthetic.

Well, there's the problem I guess. The people praising P5 so much think P3 and P4 are more than decent. If you didn't especially like those, there's no real reason you'd like P5. Also, style on the level of P5 IS substance.

I'm at the final boss at around 100 hours of play. The thing about P3/4/5 is that they're very "thin" as games, you have hours and hours of cutscenes and text between dungeons, most of my playthrough was just mashing X to advance the text instead of actually playing the game.
