There was only one big TV in my house so handheld allowed me to play video games without depriving everyone else of the TV. I then went to university and transporting a console/PC back and forth after every term would just be annoying. So I just ended up taking my laptop and 3DS. Although the 3DS is probably the most dissapointing Nintendo handheld I've ever had.
