It was too good for this world.
>>
It made the money.

Heres a better question.

Escape from Tarkov.
>>
>>383771504
I think about this all the time. Not only are there no stalker clones, but there don't seem to be many games at all that take any major influence from it. It's like its been forgotten.

>>383771552
They are nothing alike.

It has. Just not in obvious ways.

New from Ubisoft. STALKER (no periods). An open world first person shooter. Perform missions for your fellow STALKERS (again no periods) and choose a side from the many (two) factions fighting over salvage rights.

Climb abandoned towers to unlock your map and pinpoint artifacts. Harvest mutant dog tails to upgrade your pistol some how even though that makes no sense.

STALKER (no periods) by Ubisoft coming 2019 exclusively to the Play store and XboxoneX and PS4 and later the Nintendo Switch in early 2020.
>>
>>383772085

You can do that in Stalker Clear Sky but it was also shit so not much of a feature.

It did not die.
It is in coma.
Devs, like all good artists saw that they are unable to make a sequel that would be worthy of it's name.
Meanwhile, they make money and carefully gather ideas and.

Sadly, all so-called F2P online spiritual successors are destined to fail. Because they are made with money in mind.
>>
>>383769250
Bad gameplay, highly repetitive, poor english translation, terrible gun mechanics, extremely bugged, poorly optimized engine.

This game is not even worth it for FREE.

Also, before anyone says "b-b-but there are tons of mods for this game and you endlessly play it hurr".

Yeah, you forgot to mention that these mods take WEEKS to install because some assets are always missing, and that you have to tweak some files manually and hope it will fix the problem...

But the most important thing, is the fact that those russian mods are crippled by trojans, malwares, keyloggers, and bitcoin miners.

"B-b-but it's just a false-positive from your antivirus! The russians would NEVER hack someone... I mean... w-why would they?"

Skip this game, and pray that a new one never comes out.

Normies don't even know what STALKER is any more. It is, however, one of those titles that get brought up every time PC exclusives are mentioned, for a good reason too.

Ironically, the open and balls-busting style of the new Zelda game have added some very slight new trafic towards STALKER as well, thanks to some of their similarities (open maps, breaking weapons (with no fixing in 1st one), and being able to rush to the very end if you git gud...)
>>
>>383772047
>There's plenty of nuclear fallout games set in russia
Russia itself has always been a nuclear fallout setting. Trust me, I have to live here.

It's very poplar in the slavlands. And SoC sold 2 millions in a year alone, despite being a PC exclusive back when everyone was screaming "PCs are dead".

The worst part about this post is how fucking accurate it is. This is exactly what it would sound like if Ubisoft made it. They would take STALKER and slap on all the shitty open world mechanics they rehash in every single one of their games. Ubisoft is by far one of the most creatively bankrupt companies in the industry.

Some Russian faggot realized that he actually owns the copyright for the Stalker movie and decided to sit on it for shits and giggles. It's the reason why the multiplayer shit-spinoff was called Survarium instead. Stalker is off limits.

So even if there could be a sequel, there couldn't be that tasty, sought-after "brand recognition" that seems to be so fucking important these days.

>>
>>383769250
Three games are enough
Quality over quantity
>>
>>383779071
STALKER is far from doing everything well - the facial animations look absolute shite (like, sub 2001-tier bad) and the optimisation, especially dx10 and higher features, is far from optimal. Also, besides CoP, every title has high chance of player stumbling into game-breaking bug (although that was fixed with unofficial patch, it's still bullshit to install mandatory 3rd party patches to make the game playable)

That said, the rest is die cast solid piece of work (that includes level design, soundtrack and general feel of being in familiar, but completely twisted setting)

Not really, you go into a map filled with AI and other players (players can also spawn in as the AI characters, called Scavs, Scav AI won't shoot other Scav players unless they kill a Scav) and you can either leave through one of the designated exits or you can wait out the clock. You keep whatever you leave with, it's really nothing like Battle Royale style games, it's more like DayZ but on a smaller scale.

This depends on what's available in your country. You probably can't go wrong with Russian writers.

In my case I liked them all though every author has their own style and sees zone in a slightly different way. Specifically, one author is quite faithful to the game by making the zone quite populated and fairly tame, while other guy makes it totally dangerous and unpredictable with pretty sparse human population of zone. First guy focuses on action, the other guy on the mystery and suspense, though there is a fair bit of action too.

I cannot tell much about the quality though since it's very subjective and I found many times that there is no point listening to critics and reader's reviews, and it's better to have a read and decide yourself.

Just pick a book, but watch out as some of them are parts of series.

This thread is the perfect example of why /v/ sucks.

You keep pretending that this game--and the whole series--is good, just because you want to be perceived as some kind of 1337 hipster that plays only some kind of less-known games.

"Look at those casual plebs, playing mainstream games like Call of Duty, Fallout 4, or The Witcher 3... Just LMFAO... Get to my level noobs... Ever heard of E.Y.E Divine Cybermancy or S.T.A.L.K.E.R? Of course you didn't, because you know nothing about REAL games!"

Gotta be contrarian, and show how cool you are by playing those indie games.

I actually fell for this trap, a few years ago, when the complete S.H.I.T.K.E.R collection was on sale on Steam...

I managed to finish the first game (SoC), not because I liked it, but because I wanted to see why everyone was recommending it here... and why there were like 4 simultaneous threads about it, on a daily basis.

The game was HORRIBLE. It was FULL of game-breaking BUGS. The dialogues were pretty big and detailed... but they made NO SENSE, and were translated using the Google-Translate tool. The guns felt like shooting rubber bullets, and their animations were AWFUL.

The list could go on and on, but I'll have to hold back, since I am approaching the word limit for this post.

PLEASE, don't fall for the S.T.A.L.K.E.R cancer that has grown on /v/. Just look at videos on Youtube, and judge by yourself before spending any money on this shit.

Peace.

>Satisfying gunplay thanks to bullet physics.

Lol. Stop lying to yourself. The vanilla games have horrible gun mechanics. And there is no bullet drop.

>Properly challenging and lack of hand holding, without feeling artificially difficult.

The only challenging thing in the game, is the auto-aim that the enemies have... And I'm talking about the bandits that can one-shot you from far away with the rusty pistol.

The other challenging thing is trying to decypher the poorly translated English dialogues.
>Pretty as a button.

Not him, but in my most recent playthrough of SoC with the Starter pack mod collection, which consists of mostly bug-fixes, I still had several times the A.I. completely spaz out, including a gorgeous opportunity to test our the ballistic models when ALL A.I. in Dark Valley simply stopped reacting to me, or to taking damage. They just went around doing their business while I literally walked around blasting them with shotguns into faces.
I also had A.I. stuck in a narrow door several times, resulting often in situation where player was strapped and had to reload.
Had the game flat out crash three times (mostly on loading) an engine overload.
Had physics bugging out countless times, entire objects not load up (but still have their collision map loaded in).
Animal A.I. spazzed out more often than it worked as supposed to. Enemies attempting to charge only to change their mind just in front of you, run back to their starting position, then repeat the process many times. This was particularly funny with the two Bloodsuckers in Wild Territory.
Had my character stuck in a wall or different collision detection numerous times.
Once I gained an incurable radiation bug, causing me to gain radiation damage even though I was in middle of Rostok factory with no source of radiation in
Sound bug caused me to hear snork sound loop permanently through Yantar, even inside the science base.
Oh yeah, and psi-helmet just flat out dissappeared from my inventory once. Thankfully it had no gameplay effect: the effects of it remained.

It's nothing compared to the original release though. Entire segments of the game were unavailable back then.
Fun fact, with the released 2007 version available in my country, only ONE ending was actually available without the player actually glitching the game himself.
No joke. I have my fair share of love for the series, but GOD it was buggy on release, and many of the less vital bugs exist even in the most patched out versions today.
>>
>>383779927
>Too hardcore

This pretty much, you would need to actually become literally good at the game to truly experience the game itself, especially at Master difficulty since you and every other human is equally killable, except for the mutants since they literally eat everything you throw at them.
>>
>>383803825
Basically none of this is true, especially the bullshit about master difficulty.
Stalker is challenging, sure. It's partially simply because of the design, partially because it also has unintuitive mechanics that it just stubbornly refuses to explain - in fact it has fuck all in terms of tutorialization what so ever - some of it to it's benefit, and some of it just makes you frustrated on your first half run.

But all of that "every other human is equally killable" shit is just plain old bullshit. The game just simply hands advantages to your enemies on higher difficulties to keep up the challenge. They FLAT OUT DO have considerably more health, they have simple resistances to non-head-shot damage that you as a player don't have, and they don't suffer a whole number of vision issues the player deals with.

The problem with Stalker never was that it's too hardcore or too difficult, to be honest. It's that it's too janky, too slow-paced, too buggy, too shit at exposition, and too nuanced in it's actual atmosphere. It just piles of various frustrations and not enough immediately gratifying hooks and that makes it a poor fit to general public.

STALKER is a perfect example of game meant to be fun instead of being maximally profitable. If you're going to drag on a rough diamond like this might as well go glob on AAA knob.

leave and never return, gaming isn't going to ever fill the roaring void inside of you.
>>
>>383804412
It does not matter if it's a bait or not, it's so damn fucking retarded that it does not deserve the attention.

>>383804705
Starter pack mod is probably the best choice of mods if you want basically vanilla but more polished experience of SoC. It's just bug fixes and graphics mods making the game look fancier, nothing that would actually affect the art direction, ballistics, balance, add or remove content (I think with the exception of a sleeping bag, which can save you some annoyances).
If you don't want even that, Zone Reclamation mod (which is part of the Starter pack mod) is at least a major bug-fix collection.

You can play the vanilla - the current versions of the game are not seriously broken anymore. But they do have bugs, and you probably really do want that fucking sleeping bag feature, because that was something insanely missing and retarded in original SoC.

Nigger even the RPG-7 that's barely used in the game has an authentic scope with functioning target movement compensation grids.

nope, enb. Should be a link on a AA2 enb yt video. Tweak it, you can control the lighting quite a bit in the config menu.

Since when does ENB change the color of the fruit punch?
And why would you even want it to do that?

Who gives a fuck? We talking about vanilla here.

Why do people hate Clear Sky so much?

I remember playing it a while back for a short while and I encountered a gamebreaking bug that killed my motivation to play. I think my lack of motivation to continue was a combination of having to reload an old save and people here saying it wasn't worth their time playing and to avoid it.

Could anyone give me a pros and cons kinda thing? Playing CoP again and I'm fucking loving it.

Dude, those mods are literally just bug fixes, textures and fucking sleeping bag. Vanilla IS bugger than this. A lot buggier. Are you retarded?
>>
>>383810360
Most people hated it for it's very poor map designs, bugs and that terrible heli "bossfight".
>>
>>383798274
>The vanilla games have horrible gun mechanics. And there is no bullet drop.

Nigger you can fire directly into the air with a pistol and catch the falling round with your own face.

Also pls gib good mod for CoP. I've played through all 3 games a couple of times but it's been years since I touched them.

Maybe, but it'll be shit. Look at Cossacks 3.
