Anvil of Dawn and Dungeon Hack are the obvious ones. Ultima Underworld is also a solo first person dungeon crawler, though calling it a blobber is a stretch.

Forgot King's Field, which again isn't a blobber but is still a first-person dungeon crawler, so it'll scratch the same itch. Also Legacy: Realm of Terror, which is a solo blobber but isn't particularly great. Um...there's also Akalabeth, but you have to be pretty desperate to play that. If you really want solo blobbers, there's not a lot out there. Managing a team was appealing for most people.

The ones in the first post are all on GOG, so acquiring them will be no problem. The ones in the second post will be trickier. Legacy you'll have to set up in DOSBox (not that hard) and King's Field you'll have to both run in a PSX emulator and apply the fan translation, which is a bit more legwork. So I'd recommend starting with the first three first.

Dolphins do not only respond to the basic needs of their lives; they are extremely playful, for example, producing underwater bubble rings, which they can do in either the horizontal or vertical plane. It took them a while to work out what was required of them before they realised, but then they started to offer all kinds of novel behaviours, to the point where the trial was stopped because their behaviours became too complex to make further positive reinforcement meaningful. When the experiment was repeated with humans, it took the volunteers roughly the same length amount of time to grasp what they were being asked to do, although they did not then continue on to create the range of behaviours the dolphins did.

Another example of interesting behaviour suggesting intelligence concerns a dolphin named Kelly at the Institute for Marine Mammal Studies in Mississippi. The dolphins there are trained to collect any rubbish that inadvertently falls into their pens and then give it to a trainer the next time they see one. They are then rewarded with a fish. Kelly worked out that the size of the piece of rubbish does not affect the reward. So instead of handing over a piece of litter immediately, she stores it under a rock in the tank and tears it into small pieces and hands them back one at a time. Q1) How do I tell a male dolphin from a female one?
A1) Probably the most common question I get asked. There are 2 ways of determining the sex of a dolphin. The most obvious way is to take a peek under the peduncle (the long part of the body connected to the tail flukes). On the dolphin's belly, directly opposite the dorsal fin, will be the umbilicus, or the navel of the dolphin. Looking further down towards the tail, you start to see the differences.

Male dolphins have two separate slits for the penis (the urogenital opening) and the anus. These are separated by a bridge of skin. The male's urogenital opening is generally located further up the belly, towards the navel.

Females, on the other fin, have one continuous larger slit, the anus located at the end of it. On either side of the genital slit, you will find two smaller slits; these are the mammary slits, where the nipples of the dolphin are kept for feeding the calves. The other way to determine the sex of a dolphin, if you can't reach their belly, is to look at their mellon, or head. The males tend to have a fatter, rounder mellon, while the females are more sleek and streamlined.

Are there some games that give you rewarding exploration?
In Might and Magic 6-7 it kinda feels like that exploring a map really just means putting dungeons on a checklist to clear out once I get a quest for them. Same checklist for the 1/map obelisk, shrine, etc.
I never find anything unexpected and scary. I never get the feeling of "wow, I found something unique". Or the feeling of "I'm not supposed to be here, this is dangerous territory".

Wizardry 7 does two things right for exploration.

1. It's massive and full of scripted events, so you're actually seeing new shit all the time. There's a wide variety of terrains, from weird dungeons to sky cities. Will take a long while for the game to stop surprising you.

2. There are other parties who can interact with the world just as much as you can, who will wander, loot dungeons and kill NPCs just like you would. So if they beat you to something you want, you'd better find them and make friends or take it by force. This makes the world feel much more alive and highlights that it's not all about you.

It's both a difficult and long game, but they manage to make a more interesting world in 1992 than most games can today.

Might as well, it's a massive game so don't fuck yourself with a bad start. Wizardry games let you change classes so you're not stuck with that, but races are obviously permanent. And there are skills you *need*, like swimming. Also, you have to be patient with rolling stats. Or you can just hack your characters up a bit.

But yeah, Wizardry 7 is one of the harder RPGs. It's not on the same level as Wiz 4 or Deathlord or Dark Heart of Uukrul or something, but it's harder than anything coming out today. Just try not to spoil yourself past party build.

6 is a pure dungeon crawl. For grognards, by grognards, who find pleasure in just exploring a labyrinth full of monsters and loot. It's not as difficult as 7 but still harder than most modern players can probably deal with. If your problem was that exploration gets repetitive, you won't like 6 as much. There's stuff to see in the dungeon besides go to the next level, there's characters to meet and quests to do, but if mapping out a complex dungeon where sometimes a dead end is just a dead end doesn't appeal to you, you're going to find it harder to swallow.

It's still great but it's definitely the product of an old-school dungeon crawling mentality. Maybe you should cut your teeth on Lands of Lore or something else that's fairly simple before you take it on.

But if you have a couple hundred hours to spare, you can import your party from 6 to 7 to 8, and there are some choices that carry over. There's a minor quest in 8 that requires showing an NPC an item you could only get in 6. It's a nice little detail, games don't do that sort of thing anymore.
