Does anyone else miss blockbuster?
>>
pfft more like cock suckers amirite?
>>
Did anyone else have parents who would blame you for the videos/games getting returned late even though you were 8 and didn't have a car?
>>
>>383743783
more like block busted
>>
I miss being the age when Blockbuster was still around.
>>
Australia still has a few
I live pretty close to one
>>
>paying money to rent a game or movie

Boomers were a special kind of stupid
>>
Yes. So many more games nowadays would be considered a "rental" than buying it. I don't buy those games, but it would hurt slaes for shitty releases.
>>
>>383743790
I had grandparents who would punish me at times by deliberately refusing to let me turn games back on time and then having me pay the accumulated rental fees.
>>
>>383743903
>t. underaged
>>
Absolutely not.

Even ignoring that they were relatively expensive they were responsible for enormous amounts of censorship. It was run by one of those puritan types and he would demand censorship to "objectionable" material or he would refuse to stock it. Given the size of their market share studios would usually capitulate to their demands.
>>
>>383743683
Don't know why I would. There probably wasn't a single mompop video store in the whole western hemisphere that was worse than blackboxer. And that includes the one that rented mooseporn up in ottawa.
>>
>>383743892
Do you also use rocks to kill animals to eat their raw meat? fucking savages.
>>
Us oldfags hahaha what snack did you get when your games xd

I miss the memories of a care-free childhood that I associate with Blockbuster, not so much Blockbuster itself.
>>
Not really. My sisters would pick out a movie 2-1 and we would be forced to watch it as a family night movie.
>>
No, their game selection was shit.
>>
>>383744235
This
>>
>>383743683

Yes. It allowed me to browse all the newest games and take one home for $3.00~
>>
It had a certain level of excitement that kids don't get to experience these days. Waiting for the weekend to come, physically go out and look at the shelves of movies and games, hoping they either had the new one in stock or the old one still intact. Hoping to God some asshole didn't erase your save file.

I miss it, but the new systems are so much better. I'm sure my grandparents had the same opinions about B/W TV and radio, but I'm glad I had more options.
>>
I miss the old, retarded black man that worked at my local rental store. When Blockbuster took over, they let him stay. He mainly helped clean up, but every weekend he'd be in a costume advertising whatever was new. It was really fun talking to an adult in costume who acted my age as a child. I hope he's OK now that that Blockbuster went under.
>>
>>383743790
No, because we put them next to the tv downstairs before they were due so nobody would forget like sane people.
>>
>>383744668
Jesus anon what the fuck man thanks.....
>>
>>383743683
There are still 10 Blockbuster stores operating in the US right now.
>>
>>383743683
no. i used hollywood video.
>>
>>383743683
Shit yeah. I'd get Dead Rising 1 every weekend when I'd visit my Dad's. FUCK the Convicts when you never knew a lot about the game.
>>
>>383744945
10 stores with the blockbuster logo honestly
>>
>>383743683
No. No one misses Blockbuster, even the people that think they do don't . They miss the way they felt as kids.
Things are infinitly more convenient now and I only wish it had happened sooner.
>>
>see dad one weekend a month
>Buys me PC Gamer, Gamepro and lets me rent a game
>Sits on the couch with me even though he thinks it's a monumental waste of time.

Told him I'd take care of him when he's senile. Mom's a cunt from keeping him away from me, Haven't talked to her since I turned 18.

No these days they ride their dingos to the quickiestop to buy some fosters
One of my best friends was born in australia, I know Fosters is swill
>>
>>383745764
>I know Fosters is swill

Once upon a time Fosters was actually a very popular beer in Australia but they screwed it up by changing the formula. While it's not terrible liked these days some of the brewer's other brands, e.g. Carlton Draught, are pretty popular.

>>383745224
>tfw you realize you have a larger video library on a hard drive smaller than a clamshell case, than any blockbuster in the country ever kept in stock
>>
I miss not having responsibilities.
>>
>>383744235
100% this. Everyone seems to forget what colossal assholes they were to customers with the many fees, penalties, rules, inadequate inventory, and other bullshit they pulled. As a young kid it was fantastic going there, but as a teenager/adult it could be a pain in the ass.
>>
>>383746271
>many fees, penalties, rules
Those were only a problem if you were a shitty customer.
Sounds like you were a shitty customer.
>>
Blockbuster doesn't make sense anymore. Back in the 80s when new videotapes costed +$80 it made sense to go in and rent a movie for $5, but even Blurays never costed that much, with an average bluray only being $25 for the dvd + bluray + the digital redemption that literally nobody even uses anyway, there's no room for a place like Blockbuster anymore. And that's not even mentioning Netflix.

The entire store's job can easily be taken up by a kiosk outside Walmart or a pharmacy or some shit.
>>
>>383746413
Yeah, I was such a shitty customer that they'd make sure the movie I reserved was out of stock when it became available to rent.
>>
>>383743683
I miss the era of brick-and-mortar media sales, because it meant the Internet was still a secret hideout for nerds.

The difference between people who grew up with the Internet and without it is like the difference between people who grew up with and without electricity.
>>
>>383746659
>Back in the 80s when new videotapes costed +$80

This never happened. The reason for renting was simply most movies were never available for sale or were only available after a rental period. Sale price for a tape was around the same price as it was for DVD and bluray when they were new products too.

Back in the day there was a lot of collusion in the industry to maximize profits and the biggest was staggered release. First came theaters, then came rental, then came purchase and finally came broadcast. Today rental has been cut out, though streaming is starting to take it's place.

>>383743972
>t.idiots

Libraries still let you check out games for free. And have been for years. Check out your local one and get a library card.
>>
Is Gamefly worth spending money on?

I want to play Nier for PS3 but I don't want to spend $35 on it.

>tfw I only buy top shelf games now because I've literally spent years playing mid level stuff without wasting money
