Yakuza is one of those series (including metal gear for example) that should've been started with the first to understand all story and have more impact to gameplay.
I never will understand why you would want to start at the most recent. At least try to go as far back as possible, like start with 4 (kinda meh but still interesting) then jump to 5 (very good) and then 0 while having watched all internal videos of the previous games that are included and then pick up kiwami when you still feel like it.

Here you go not to hard, ps3s are easy as fuck to get and the games sell for next to nothing. Might even start with 3 then.

So what do you guys think is the best Yakuza game to date? You can even write the order if you want. For me it's 2>1>5>0>3>4

they made the mistake of making a new engine for the game and not making a spinoff to get to grips with it first. They did that with kenzan and I think yakuza 3 benefited from it. It was the first time they were developing strictly for the ps4 and I think they got a bit too overconfident/assumed the ps3 was holding them back far more than it was

I've been vaguely curious about Yakuza for a long time. Is 0 a good starting point or is it really worth going back to Yakuza 1 on the PS2?

Pool you need a ruler, then it's just as simple as measuring the line with the ruler, ideally on a monitor and not on a TV but it's possible on a TV. It's the hardest in 3 because one mistake means the NPCs basically win unless God decides to smile upon you. It's much much easier in 4 and Dead Souls, and in Dead Souls Esper Itou is basically only Hard from 3.

Pachinko just do the Virtua Fighter machine and go watch a TV show or something. If you enter the tournament at all in Virtua Fighter you basically have nonstop jackpots forever or at least a long amount of time, and then once the tournament finishes once you have an insanely high chance of doing it again.

Shogi just do the challenge mode (It's like puzzle Chess) and repeat the first stage 5 times for it to count. That counts for completion on the completion lists. You can find solutions to the level 1 challenges on GameFAQs really easily. If you actually need to play a game of it use the simulator:

Unless you're really good at chess Shogi is an absolute nightmare, especially since the Kanji on the pieces are sometimes a pain in the ass to see properly and tell what they are compared to chess, it's the one game I never bothered to learn.

I fucking have Yakuza 5 but it won't fucking install despite me having fifty free gb on my drive. Fuck you and fuck this stupid shit series.

Yakuza 1 has some really bad flaws and a terrible english dub so avoid it. don't worry about the story, its summarized in 2. then go on from 3 till 0 and by the time you reach 0, kiwami should be out and you can play that. kiwami is basically a remastered version of 1

Just remember that Shogi has way more rules. There's only one or two rooks and bishops, the areas where the rooks are in a standard game of chess are piercers or something like that that can literally only go in a straight line, they have the general tiles that move like both a king and a knight mixed into one, you can use captured tiles as your own tiles, if you get to the last two areas on the opponent's side you can promote them to whatever their upgrade is (I believe a piercer turns into a rook, a bishop turns into a silver general?, and so on).

I spent like three hours and the tiles all ended up looking the same and I've always been terrible at chess so I just took the easy way out with that. Pool is definitely going to be the hardest of the games but it gets easier in the later installments compared to the nightmare that was 3.

that's a fucking relief, i legit spent 8 hours doing expert rotation pool. i won because the AI failed a single shot, which is caused by some glitch in the pocket hitbox. it was bizarre but satisfying

Mahjong is something that has to click with you. It took me about ten~ish hours before I actually understood how to play it. What I'd recommend you do is read https://psnprofiles.com/guide/5892-yakuza-0-mahjong-completion-guide since it's something I wish I had when playing Yakuza 2 HD. It teaches you the basics and how the hands work, but if you want a general summary of how to play:

All the game revolves around is making a hand of 14 tiles, 12 of them have to be triples using the same tiles or tiles sequentially of the same type of tile (So 1,1,1 bamboo, or 4, 5, 6 numbers), and then you need a double of any kind to make the hand.
Don't call Kon, Pon, Chou unless you're getting the green dragon tile (The green kanji, not the bamboo tiles), the pure white tile, or the 中 tile because the amount of points you lose by revealing your hand is only offset by those specific tiles really.
Always press square at the start of each round to see if you can Riichi which means you are one tile from winning. I believe Kenzan and 2 didn't tell you what tiles were left in play when you do this for the discard so that you can tell which is the better idea to go with but 4 onward does.
Pay attention to enemy discards, you don't want to be going for a 1, 2, 3 bamboo if you see three 2 bamboos have been discarded already since the chance of making that combo is really low.

It'll come to you, it's become one of my favorite minigames along with Koikoi.

If you come in as a long time fan of the series, you know immediately who's marked for death or not because they never show up in the series afterwards.
