The investors and shareholders demanded that Bethesda somehow makes the Prey IP they had sunk a lot of money into turn up profit, because it looks better on company financial resume's.
That, plus the (largely misguided) idea that anything with an established brand will sell automatically better than a new IP due to residual IP recognition, increased search hits and impulsive nostalgic purchases.

That is all there is to it. It's just (partially outdated or short-sighted) suit judgements making silly calls for reasons that to anyone who is not part of the same corporate scheme make zero sense. The biggest motivation really was completely internal-business-model related and has no meaning for the actual audiences.

Yeah, no. Nobody is "taking out anything" on Human Head studios. The whole "it's all just a personal vendetta against us because we are so god-damn awesome!" story is completely made up by Human Head. Bethesda does not, and did not, really give two fucks about them. It was just a failed project: HH did not deliver on what they promised, the game got caught in a development hell, Beth eventually pulled the plug because the project was going nowhere. It's nothing new and nothing surprising.

HH are just trying to put a spin on the story to literally masturbate themselves in the most insane way possible. They always had been doing that. I have no fucking clue why and how are you people buying into it. For having so much mistrust for people trying to screw you, you really are eager to listen to people trying to screw with you.

Now we could argue that it would be commercially better for the game, and for Arkane. HH being the cunts they are desperately tried to use this whole thing to promote themselves and ended up summoning a massive irrational wave of hate towards the game, the brand confused fuckton of people, the few insane morons who actually liked original Prey started their own hate campaigns, the rest of the world was probably more put-off by the association with the abortion that original Prey was than intrigued... I genuinelly think that from a strictly business strategy, it would have been MUCH wiser to call the game virtually anything different.


But fuck me: if the name somehow affected your actual experience with the game, then there might be something wrong with you.

The only thing this game "preys" on is consumers who think it will run without crashing with some stupid "dxgi error device hung" message.

Looked all over for a solution to this, and even lowered my CPU from 4.2 -> 4.0 ghz. But apparently it's a problem with the client itself, not the user's hardware.

I don't care about Human Head, I don't care about the original Prey, I don't care about Prey 2 which by all means looked fucking generic. It just bothers me that Prey 2017 was denied its heritage and instead got stuck with all this fucking drama about the name. I'm not saying I'd have liked the gameplay and story more if it had a different name, just that it being named something OTHER than Prey would've spared me the bad taste I get in my mouth whenever I think about this pathetic mess.
