There isn't a proper way to utilize leveling mechanics these days because of this.
You either get your shit stomped for being underleveled, or end up too powerful and end up not enjoying the game because of it.

RPG difficulty is just a number's game. The higher number wins. It's as boring as turn-based combat.
You just grind your numbers to be higher than the thing you want to beat.

If you don't have fun while grinding, then you won't find enjoyment in playing these games.
