I love it. It's ranked up there as like number five on my favorite FFs, and I've played pretty much hard every mainline game outside of three. I think more time to think on the game and playing through it again with all the DLC might bump it up to my top 3.

It's too split up through various mediums, to a point where if you only ever consume the game, the story is almost fucking nonsensical. The "open world" at launch was impossible to traverse with your car (which was a pretty well advertised feature) meaning you had to spend minutes using that awful stamina meter to run, then time it just right to refill unless you wanted to wait, which was a chore. The open world was also largely void of content, there were a few scattered catacombs but outside of those, and the post-game superbosses, I can't really think of much content that was worth doing in the game. It was all really filler type stuff.

Then there was chapter 13, just everything about it. They fixed it recently but again, day late, dollar short. The latter half of the game was personally more to my liking since at least it knew the story it was trying to tell (even if it was callbacks to a bunch of shit you had to watch the anime and the movie and other shit to understand). But I understand why other people wouldn't like it. It felt sort of like the xenogears disc 2 rushdown of content.

All in all it's not a horrible game but it has a lot of flaws that lead it to being more worthy of a $20 or $30 pricetag, and not a $60 one. Much like FF13, I fully expect to see an entire game sequel at some point in the future.

It's more of a setting from where many games share world construction. Allegedly FFXII happens in the past of FFT and Vagrant Story in its future, but other than that FFTA, FFTA2 and Revenant Wings happen in a world also called Ivalice but not necessarily the SAME Ivalice.

Cause X came out with the announcement of the PS2, and XI wasn't that long after. XII came as an announcement not long after X's launch, and between XII and XIII they'd teased it for a while. I think there was a brief period where XIII was it, but XIV came pretty quickly after XIII's launch. I still have my CE of 4.0, good times.

Development on big franchises like FF usually start around the end of the concept stage of the previous one, that way the team keeps working while everything else gets made, finished, and polished. They do have to work on promo art and such but that shit is easy. after months and months of concept and writing it goes into research and development of gameplay and after that is the rest of development. they are probably finishing the concept stages of the next one and it'll be a few years maybe two before you see any concrete piece but they are def working on it.

FFTA still isn't part of the same world. It was literally a magic illusion world, that's the point of the game. The races weren't actually in the 'Real' Ivalice until XII shoved them in. And FFT's relation to Vagrant story has been said to be as much fanservice as anything else, by Matsuno.

In theory, the games that aren't FFTA all take place in the same world, but the connections are so loose and distant it doesn't really matter.

The fact that most SE fans seem to care more about their not-FF IPs (with the exception of the FF7 remake), I feel that they're close to "learning their lesson" about FF.

I dont particularly care about the Ivalice setting.
Its very heavy on the deserts and brown as shit.

The special races arent irreplaceable for me and its not like they'd have the balls to put some Bangaa or Seeq into your party.

Ivalice also has the worst summon designs.
