If you NEED a laptop then of fucking course it's better to buy a laptop. If you don't need one, maybe if your job doesn't require one or you can work on, hey, a desktop, then a desktop is better value. But yeah, no shit if you need a laptop then a laptop is better. Who the fuck is surprised at this?
Also, you know, £850 on a gaming laptop could do you a lot better than that.
One problem I've seen a lot in gaming laptops is that the durability on them is shit, and they tend to self-destruct within a few years. I've had my current PC since 2012, and it's been going strong for 5 years with only one upgrade - the GPU, which I upgraded from a GTX 660Ti to a GTX 970 in early 2016.
Compare and contrast, I had a laptop that's about as old and the GPU killed itself about 3 years ago, it makes a weird sound, the keyboard is worn out, and there are a whole host of other problems with it. If you can avoid getting a laptop, do. They don't last long.

Exactly this.
I got myself a pretty good laptop in 2014 when I left for college in another city.Played a lot of games and It was cool being able to pick it up and go anywhere with it (no car). However 3 years later the GPU fried and now I'm running on the integrated graphics, not a lot of games I can play. Now that I have I job I'll build a PC when I save some money and keep this laptop for movies and shit but I'm never buying another expensive laptop.
