i know /v/ is full of differing opinions, but 3 vs NV is like the ultimate pleb test. 3 is more commercial but it's a fucking travesty. NV is a great RPG.

look, if you're not into the "moment-to-moment" gameplay, I'll understand because no game is perfect, and both of these have generally awful gameplay, but the thing with NV is that it has atmosphere, good writing, a good aesthetic, etc. You may say "ok, but I want games to be games, since this is a low-brow medium after all and gameplay matters a lot", and you'll be right, but however NV wins out here by far as well. 3 is full of meaningless shooting and the shooting is not even good. NV is designed to be an actual RPG, so the way you play, the way you manage supplies, items, ammo, etc is completely different. Skill checks are prominent and skills and SPECIAL matter way more than just for the combat, meaning you'll watch how you create your character and level up carefully. Also, plainly put, New Vegas has way more content with actual thought and atmosphere put into it and a high degree of player choice that affects outcomes in real ways.

I was a cold hard shill for fallout 3, my friend played the first 2 and NV plus hated 3. I always thought NV sucked ass. First time I got it, played 10 min and dropped it... then I played it again with my friend and HO BOY, was I ever wrong.

I beat fallout 3 20 times to this day and loved it at the time but as soon as I played NV and the DLC I realized 3 was horse shit, only good dlc was the pitt and point lookout. I swiftly started playing new vegas and every time I played I realized how shit and how much bethesda didn't give 2 fucks about 3. Then I heard how long they had to make the game, plus bethesda limiting their ass and they still made a game 100x better than 3 in such a short time

all in all, 3 was godlike until NV happened. then I turned bitter and realized the truth.
