The solutions to the mysteries are mostly unsatisfying anyway, so my theory is that R07 just designed them to suit the purposes of the plot and didn't expect such a fervour to form around them.
I think the direction Chiru took makes more sense if you think about it like that. It was trying to brace us for that truth. Like, I wish the mystery could've been the focus too but I'm not really sure how that direction could have been satisfactory with what the answers were. I was angry at the time but re-reading it with that mindset made me appreciate it a lot more.

That's pretty much exactly how I experienced it. The sheer length of Umineko still baffles to me to this day. When I started reading it I knew basically nothing about how it all worked, so as the first part dragged on and on I thought THAT would be the whole thing, but then there was an intermission chapter, then a whole new second chapter where things got really fucking stupid (and I got mad). That anger continued until the third part where things finally clicked for me and I accepted the metaverse aspect. Then I got mad again at part 4, and at part 5, etc. It was this huge all-encompassing wild ride that defined a significant part of my existence. I didn't actually keep track of how long I took but it was at least the better part of a year.

Medaka Box is meta-fiction that riffs on shounen and battle manga stereotypes, Kumagawa portraits the permanent jobber that is always destined to lose from the get go to make the hero look good.
