DNF was actually being developed though. It just kept getting scrapped and overhauled over and over for the sake of trying to be the best possible game, entered development hell, and was lost until the retards at Gearbox put out some generic piece of shit using the name for the box. There's literally nothing to show for HL3 or Episode 3 and there is no reason to show, announce, or even tease the idea of there being anything because it will never live up to the normie hype and the core audience no longer gives a fuck because they know it's never coming out and are tired of being teased over and over (officially by Valve or otherwise)

Half Life 3 will NEVER ever happen and it boils down to a few things.
For starters, Steam is a cash cow for them and they don't even make games any more in general and haven't in years.
Secondly the hype surrounding HL3 is so immense that no matter what it won't live up to it and they know it.
Thirdly, mass effect 3's backlash prompted a lot of game companies to be wary of finishing trilogies because by the third game the hype reaches extreme levels and the backlash can make or break entire IPs. See how shit Andromeda did, Bioware Montreal has been reworked into a support team, the DLC was canceled and the anti-piracy ware was taken off so that they didn't have to pay for it.
Valve will never release a third game for Portal, TF2, etc. any time soon if ever, but especially not HL3

I wish that hacker never leaked HL2 back in 2003. We would have had complete fully realized half life 2 with all that awesome cut content and not two shitty episode games and memehype'd up vaporware.

Whoa whoa, they made Opposing Force and the Brothers in Arms games. Those were good. The first Borderlands was alright and if it had gone in another direction the series would have been good too, but instead they decided to inject real-world politics and bad jokes into it and tried to spin the company itself into some living breathing pathetic joke and shadow of its former self. I will never forgive them for what they did to Colonial Marines.

All they did was polish it up a bit and released it where others had failed to do so. For real I don't get the HL3 hype. Half-Life from it's start was basically a glorified tech demo. HL1 was "Hey look! Skeletal animations and a bunch of cool shit on sorta Quake engine!", followed by HL2's "Hey look! Physics and facial flexes! Please use our new Source engine!".

Considering how done to death first person shooters are, what could HL3 do to set it apart from the other two games? Because the story is pretty generic sci-fi imo, having a third game that'd just wrap up the story would be boring. My bet's on it being a shitty VR game, given how much they've shilled into HTC Vive
