these threads are always fun. sp00ky greentext stories, post your bases, or just bitch about the sjw devs.
annoying making a base looks aesthetically pleasing on the outside without the inside layout being jacked as shit. pretty happy with what i've got now though, even though it looks like a mess of tubes on the outside.

also is power consumption fucked for anyone else? have two nuke reactors, a bio reactor, and a massive array of solar panels in a shallow biome. It caps out at 10,000 but sits between 1,000 and 0 depending on time of day. Too much shit or is it broken?

Big waves would be buggy as shit, and would probably be more trouble to implement than it's worth.

Tbh someone sould just make a spiritual successor to Subnautica already.
Keep the alien planet theme (maybe not the crash land aspect) but make it less cartoony.

I also feel like the story really hinders the game's potential.
It's just kind of jarring how it constantly switches from being the driver to being the passenger.
It also wouldn't hurt to include some environmental storytelling, as opposed to "lost" PDA data (which are fairly boring to reread).
But props to them for sticking to it.

New player. Just got the Seamoth and watched the Sunbeam get blown up rip.

Where do I find diamonds at? I haven't found any yet and need one for the laser cutter.

Also I built my first habitation tool before I got off. I was thinking about putting a very small habitat next to the escape pod so I can have some extra storage space etc. I noticed the "all purpose room" needs to be researched, where would I find parts for that?

Anyways things are going well. I'm looking forward to building a big base somewhere cool, but I've barely seen the various biomes.
>>
>>383676761
They'll be converting the map geometry from voxels to a mesh. Presumably it'll all be the same, and it isnt possible for the terrain to have been deformed by the player. I'm not sure if the terrain is still part of the save data, though. At worst, they should be able to convert saves automatically.

Is this game similar to Rust?

I had to stop playing Rust because it was making me angry and I have a policy that if a game actually makes me MAD then I'm clearly not enjoying it.

>Shoot a guy PBR with a rifle.
>Because of Garry's autistic obsession with muh physics it misses for a multitude of retarded reasons.
>Have no problem hitting someone with a bow from 3000 miles away though and arrows penetrate the strongest armour doing 50 damage + bleed until they die.
I'm still mad, but building large structures out at sea and upsetting everyone was fun in Rust.

build small outposts as POI´s. a pipe with a solar panel is enough. build your base camp where you spend most of your time, where you have resources in reach. i took some creepvines with me, and got me some blood kelp seeds, planted them next to my salvage base camp near the front end of the aurora, quite close to the reaper circling around there, i could see it from my base window.

Because that would fucking trivialize the gameplay in the second half of the game. In this case, gameplay logic trumps narrative logic. Navigation and orientation are pretty key aspects of the mechanic. Also, isn't there the scanning room now?
>>
>>383672740
>Big ass waves would be cool.
They would be cool, but also very difficult to implement. And would still be kinda pointless untless they would expand on the water-surface mechanics in the first place, since 90% of the time you'd just dive and avoid them entirely.

If anything, they really should focus more on visibility gameplay, and expand the oxygen mechanics too. I was really sad to hear they scrapped the oxygen generator mechanic, and that they have no intention to implement any kind of water murkyness kind stuff.
>>
>>383686060
It doesn't have to be a readily available map, just have your character map out topography he's gone through.
>>
>>383686257
I don't get it. "It does not have to be a map that shows you where you have been and how to get back anywhere you have been before. It just should be that."

Nope. There is a reason why the game instead implement the beacon system.
>>
>>383663286
Thats a good looking base
>>
>>383676761
Well if you have to restart just spawn in the blueprints and materials you had. Thats fair game.
>>
>>383686060
yes because it's so funny having to alt tab out of the game everytime to see where the next zone I want to go to is. Also beacons are meant to signale a specific point like some notable base and such, if we'd have to place a beacon for every regon it would be a clusterfuck. As >>383686257 said of course the map would not be compleated at the beginning of the game, imagine the fog map from the Empire's Earth game. I might end up refounding the game whrn it come out if they will not address the problem that is navigating the world
>>
>>383687202
Or - and this is actually a completely insane suggestion - you actually learn to know the landscape, take advantage of mechanics such as compass, actual visible landmarks and the damn beacons to create a decent navigational network like the game intended without immediately spoiling everything for yourself on-line like the cunt you are.
Seriously, this is pretty much everything wrong with the industry.
"The game forces me to be actually creative about figuring something out! Fuck that noise, I can find solution on-line. Why don't they just implement fucking google into the game while we are at it!"

This scene was a mess.

It wouldn't be a giant wall of water like that, it would be gradual like the tide coming in. There might be a much bigger difference between high and low tide than on Earth, but it would still be a gradual change.
>>
>>383688394
It's literally an ocean moving during to the extreme gravitational pull from gargantua. The reason the water is so low is that they are on the ocean floor
>>
>>383688515
I understand that, but there wouldn't be a big wall of water like that. It would be a smooth gradient over a distance of many miles.
>>

You mean the air pumps and pipes? They allow you to build air supply pipes down from the surface. They aren't needed for bases.

It was just the PR guy shitposting, when the real reason for no guns is the developers want 'creative' solutions for dealing with the local wildlife.
>>
>>383689309
And I'm telling you that the problem is still the same, whenever you find it our generate it by exploration. Ignoring a whole bunch of issues such as the fact that there is a considerable degree of depth to the landscape, the main issue is that the map still simplifies the fucking orientation to be a non-fucking-issue the very second you get the map because it means that you can always imediately and very easily find your way to places you have already been to once. Which largely goes against most of the fucking world-design and related mechanics. Plus it's unenecessary once you realize that you can see aurora from almost everywhere and that is usually enough (maybe with one more other point for basic triangulation to identify a location of everything.

You are just asking for completely unecessary handholding fucking casualisation of what already is a pretty user-friend game, with navigation being one of the few remaining systems in the game that weren't completely brain-dead.
>>
>>383691242
>It was just the PR guy shitposting
It wasn't a PR guy, it was the lead developer. I think the PR guy was ripping his hair out after he heard about it.
That said, the second senior design basically demented that very statement, so it does not really meaning anything.

Betweej this and the actual clouds being part of the SAME LAYER as the transparent moon and thus never moving relatively to it, just revolving around the player at the same speed: are they even thinking of fixing this, or is this part of some elaborate story-related ruse?

>>
>>383691870
You are conflating arguments and posters, anon. With the addition of the ability to toggle beacons on and off, theyre sufficient, though you are in for quite a messy UI if you use them to navigate. Regardless, navigating by relative direction and size of the Aurora is imprecise garbage that leaves the player hunting for minutes for something they already know of, which is annoying and unfun. That isn't discovery; it's "where the fuck did I leave my keys?" A map is overkill, but it's not unreasonable to request some alleviation. Even better landmarks than "that particular pile of scrap" or "that particular hill" would be enough to make a big difference.

Help

I tried building a ladder inside the ceiling of a multi-room that has a bioreactor in the middle of it and accidentally placed it above the bioereactor and can't access the ladder to deconstruct/construct it so now I can't build anything onto my base
>>
How does ladders and vertical connectors work?

I have a corridor. I want to build a vertical connector, then place a scanner room, and finally place a ladder so I can access the scanner room.

But I seem to be unable to do this because apparently placing the vertical connector does not actually connect anything. What do?
>>
>>383694952
The vertical connector can only connect to corridors. So to do what you want, you have to
1. build a corriodor, not the glass ones since vertical connectors cant go through glass for some reason
2. build the vertical connector as far as you want.
3. build another corridor on top of it, glass works since it connects in the floor of it.
4. connect the scanner room to that corridor

Also, the great thing about vertical connectors is that they're like elevators, i.e. you only have to place one ladder and you climb through the whole connector, doesn't matter how long it is, with one click.

Subnautica relies heavily on atmosphere, you bring in guns and you break that atmosphere and make another survival game but underwater. I don't care what the "official" reason for no guns is, but the game is IMO better this way.

The mist in the lower left side of the picture is actually one of the islands. The other one, the floating island. Is also covered in mist from a distance.

To the people complaining about stability and pop-ins, just delete your CellCache folder and CompiledOctreesCache folder. It helps a TON, believe me.
>>
>>383701427
Not him but Amnesia is a totally different kind of game. I get that guns could potentially ruin the atmosphere of Subnautica but it also makes no sense why there shouldn't at least be a speargun or something similar. The devs should add an option to have weapons at the very least. That way everyone can play however they want instead of being confined to running away from everything.

its been heavily reworked, stuff still pops, but nowhere as bad as it did. The game is still heavily dependant on hardrive speeds, if you have a medium fast SSD you will have no issues. i have a stupid fast pcie ssd and i see no pop in and loading the world takes seconds.

but i have noticed that with all their tweaking the LOD is VERY short now.

Actually, I'm hundred percent positive you could not enter your inventory while in Prawn or Seamoth as of previous update. Not sure about bleeding or taking damage, but inventory was inaccessible until very recently while in a vehicle. It was annoying as all fucks. So maybe this had happened to him in an older run before the last update, and he only decided to share it now?
>>
>>383670613
It's a lot of fun but changes the game a lot.
Last I played inventory wasn't great because it's jammed up in your face so it can be hard to see things.
I adjusted the turn speed to be as close to my head turn speed as I could get, and that makes it so as long as I remember to turn my head along with the joystick, I could play for around an hour before getting nauseous.
It also makes things like going down into tunnels or deep water a test of courage.
In my original file, I had a base set up at the start near the huge seaweed things where there's a large vent because I thought it was kinda of Cthulhu-esque having those huge green things waving outside my window and periodically deep bellowing as the vent sent a surge of boiling water upwards.
I could not get myself to go over into that deep dark water with my headset on. And chasing fish down to grab them for food sometimes gives jolts of "I am too close to this unfamiliar animal get back".

The idea was that it should be released around this summer, but I guess that is not happening. But I doubt they'll delay it much more than half a year from now, so I'd guess... maybe late fall this year? Or early spring next year.
We don't have much more of a solid ETA right now because the developers are still making some pretty major direction changes right now. I think the game is about 90% content finished, but god knows how long will they take tackle the clean-up, namely the complete terrain overhaul, fixing the skyboxes, tackling the pop-in, A.I. bugs etc... >>
>>383703249
Yeah, I always argued that the base-building should generally be more interactive. Having lights on-and-off - actually having an OFF option for all the machines so you can actually save energy when you need it, having actual oxygen generators and water filters - in general, just having more MACHINERY inside too. It's actually pretty difficult to make your base feel populated. The best you can have is a couple of filtration machines and a couple of bio-matter generators, but those are actually practically completely and utterly USELESS.

Near the geyser, thermal reactor will provide for all your energy needs. Bioreactor is a decent supplemetary or a way to get rid of your rotten organics fish efficiently, but it can't properly power a base.

Build it inside a cave with the cavewall at your back. At the western edge of the map is a giant cave which the big reef walkers or whatever walk through, that's a great spot. Problem is, it's kinda off, but it's pretty cool.

The bioreactor is so-so, better to build solar panels and just use energy rods to lead your energy to your base for unparallelled energy.
>>
>>383705152
Nope, every zone is still full of them and with thermal blade you never need any food supplies during expeditions.

>is the bioreactor a good energy source?
NO.
Seriously, bioreactors are essentially useless, unless you need them to run lights/oxygen alone. They are amazingly, fascinatingly useless. Unless you are like 70 m or deeper you will be always better off with solar panels. If you want to go deeper, then ideally you want thermal reactors and some good thermal wents. Otherwise, chip in for nuclear.

There are several spots on the verge of safe shallows where you can find thermal vents. I found those absolutely best for your starting base.

It's pretty terrible. Unless you want some of those realistic military sub-sims (which were pretty good, but not exactly Subnautica-like experience)... then there is next to nothing.

There were games called Treasures of the Deep and Sub Rebellion, but I think those were only on PS2.

Then there was Archimedean Dynasty and Aquanox series, neither of them being particularly amazing Aquanox 2 does have to be remembered for having THE ABSOLUTELY WORST ENDING EVER FEATURED IN A VIDEOGAME.
Finally there was something called Deep Fighter, a kind of a budget-style under-water sub arcade.

And that is basically it. There are some point-and-clicks and some crappy 2D games set under water, there is showelware like Hydrophobia, games that claim to be under-water but they hardly are like Bioshock and Soma, there is Pressure, which is fun but more in a Space Station 13 way, and then there is Stranded Deep, which I think isn't awful, but it has been ages since I looked into it.

In general, there are no good underwater games.

>Is there a way to remove Reapers and other hostile monsters from the game?

I've recently started using a PRAWN equipped with a Mining Drill and a Grappling Arm as a combat suit against sharks and crab squids. Hook onto them with the grapple, then boost towards them to close the distance, and drill the fuckers till they stop moving.

I saw a guy in another thread who goes around punching Leviathans to death with his PRAWN too, so it can be used against them too. Just takes a long time. I think the trick with fighting Leviathans is to out maneuver it and grapple onto a part of it where the face can't reach you. Once you do that, it's basically helpless and you drill/punch the fuck out of it.

I don't give a fuck if it's frowned upon. I don't know how anybody would be expected to find an entrance to the Lost Rive just by basic exploration. Like the game gives you hint that there's a facility 800m deep and 1km Southwest of your location, but it doesn't tell you that you need to find a cavern entrance to the lost River to get into it.

I'm too greased out to swim around the mountain, or really half the areas.actually.

I got attacked by something huge near the Aurora and now I hardly venture out of places I've been

Large wrecks are your best bet. Only place I can find them with any kind of decency is the Grand Reef/Kelp Zone wrecks, but that could just be my bad luck.

Found the floating island and was genuinely awestruck seeing fucking LAND. Also melons and taters.

Got into the Aurora and scanned a shit load of prawn mech suits to get my blueprint but it glithced and zero'd me out. Now I can't find any more prawn bits.

Came across my first Mesmer while down about 200m. Shit's creepy as hell, especially since it mimics the AI voice.

I hope they implement docking for Cyclopses soon. And maybe some upgrade for it where it has a crew quarter/engineering bay, etc.

So its more of a true mobile base.

it's because suddenly the main character has a blue colored mohawk, which is somehow tied to social justice instead of the devs trying to make it look like it's the future, because everyone in the future has wacky hair doos

Are water filtration machines bugged? Got 3 thermal plants, 4 bioreactors and like 12 solar panels at 70% sunlight and they don't produce enough energy to power one water filter.

Soon as I remove it my base it getting insane amounts of energy. Go from 0 to 5750 in like 2 minutes. But soon as I make a water filter the energy drains in no time at all.

what would you guys like to see in a much smaller open world horror themed deep sea exploration game without crafting?
>>
>>383744357
I'm mixed. Its scary but at the same time I feel like something big should be making deeper sounds and these would be more appropriate for the juveniles

You put glass corridors so you can keep adding more rooms, it's the only way to build high outside water I think.

U wot m8

The Reaper Leviathan is the SMALLEST of the Leviathans.

The Ghost Leviathan's egg is literally twice your size, an egg alone. INFANT Ghost Leviathans are bigger than Reapers.

Sounds like someone is too scared to go to the deeper waters.

Use the rig for silent running and only tap the throttle when you're in a dangerous area on slow.

How is this game even playable in VR? VR requires stable framerate to not cause you to vomit. This game has anything but.

I want a marianna trench zone. I want a zone that is truly "bottom of the ocean floor" shit. Somewhere that goes down at least 3k or more meters.

And I want there to be SOMETHING there. At least a few unique creatures. Yeah I know we can go down for a long time in the void but it is just that: a void.
>>
>>383749753
Don't worry, anon, the Void is empty now but they plan on adding stuff to that.

They plan on filling it with giant sea monsters
>>
>>383749754
they're putting adult ghost leviathans out in the void IIRC, so at least there's that
>>
>no co op mode to have fun in
>cant ditch your newbie friends in the grand reef to be harassed by mesmers and warpers
>>
>>383749991
I mean that honestly is dumb to me as there's no reason to venture to the void. I want an actual deep as fuck sea floor area mimmicking Earths deepest parts and having even creepier terrifying creatures than anywhere else.

That makes the void less terrifying to me. Its emptiness and lack of an identifying features is what terrifies me

>go in
>keep going
>keep going
>eventually go so far I am far into the void of nothingness
>begin getting strong anxiety

An area in which nothing seems to exist, with no features or anything, is far more terrifying to me than the ghost leviathan. Honestly that thing isn't even scary. I spawned it outside my lava base to keep me company.
