Discussions about video games can never be as deep and revealing as they are for fiction books or even movies, because video games are specifically designed to manipulate your emotions in certain ways. Movies do this too, but written entertainment is different in that the reader can stop and ponder what he's read at any point; games are too fast-paced and demand too much constant attention to really allow for one's mind to wander.

right now i'm trying my hardest to focus on stuff i have to do; i would really love to go play a game right now but it would tear me apart inside knowing i'm losing time not making money/being productive.

have you ever procrastinated by playing a game? it's never fun. you might be able to forget about the things you have to do for a little while, but it's always in the back of your mind, being a detriment to your enjoyment of the game.

don't play games at all honestly. you could use the time you play games working a second job, making money. just take some ritalin and your job will feel as fun as the game you could be playing.

Yes to the point where I don't play shit like MOBAs and never got deep into WOW or mmos growing up because I had commitments to sports and things. I play games to enjoy myself and time is more precious as I'm older so I enjoy it more. I got most of the crazy "play video games all day" phase out of me by 15-16 because of aforementioned commitments.

For some people they're definitely a waste of time but those people won't do anything productive with their time until they realize it on their own.
