Find a flaw.
Find one fucking flaw.
I dare you.
>>383653107
There will never be a sequel that lives up to the original.
Aquas exists
Katina's timer is random iirc
It was on a shitty console
It actually is one of my favorite games of all time. Probably top 10.
I always get weird reactions when I tell people that.
>>383653378
>hating Aquas
it runs at like 12fps
>>383653107
It spawned hopes that were too high.
>>383653652
It has the worst framerate in the game and is slow as hell, torpedos suck balls in comparison to charged lasers, and the boss sucks.
At least it leads to Zoness.
There aren't any
>>383653652
Because playing it at 20fps while not being able to see anything without spamming the light torpedos that further kills the framerate is good?
My biggest issue with most Star Fox games, including 64, is the counterintuitive scoring system. You'd think getting the high score means shooting all the enemies, or at least doing that while getting combos for charges blasts, right? Not quite. You DO have to do charged blasts, but you have to shoot them and AVOID locking on, because for some reason you get more combo points from splash damage than you do from actually firing a ducking accurate shot.
It's just like snaking or abusing boosts in racing games. You shouldn't have to do some stupid autistic gimmicky crap in order to master the game in the way it's advertised to you.
>>383653107
It's perfect.

>>383654435
git gud
>>383654435
I think the idea is to reward players for good aim and fast reflexes instead of relying on the lock on system, so of course the harder work nets a higher score
I'm no match for you.
I admit defeat.
>>383653107
Ok. Annoying characters, annoying frame rate. Very short, I felt ripped off paying full price.
>>383653107
it ends
>>383654810
nah he's right, you get less points for accurate shots than firing at level geometry and killing with splash damage. It's like if you got more exp from killing with bleed in an RPG than regular kills. Just nonsensical.
>>383654591
what a boring video
Landmaster's reticle felt off by a few degrees.
Overall, this is in my top 3 games of all time.
>>383655717
looks like you never played the game.
Low replay value relative to modern games
>>383655904
Is this even a valid criticism?
>>383655297
are you gonna listen to that monkey
The analog stick on the N64.
>>383653152
But this is a sequel anon
>>383653449
>>383653685
>>383653886
>>383654112
>>383655381
>>383656243
All of these are remedied with Project64.
>>383653107
The tank sections
Not enough multiplayer options/modes.
The fact you had to work your ass off to unlock the Landmaster or running on-foot for it via single-player medals.
>>383656449
also the fact that multiplayer just sucks
>>383656449
Multiplayer was fun enough.
What, how handed to you do you want your rewards?
>>383656449
It was a different time, anon. Not every game had online multiplayer with DLC. It was more of an extra thing the coders added for fun in their spare time than anything substantial.
>>383656349
Thread said find a flaw not a solution
>>383657184
Starfox 64 is not inherent to the Nintendo 64, thus it should be judged on its lowest. You wouldn't say Pac Man was a horrible game based on the 2600 version?
>>383656449
Multiplayer just wasn't fun. But it was stupid the requirements to unlock the on-foot mode. There were too little maps and the gameplay was boring.
Singleplayer is GOAT though
>>383656707
I'll agree on the landmaster mode, that is easy to get. On-foot was pretty hard though
>>383653107
Star Fox Zero did every scene better
If only the controls weren't as garbage as it was
>>383656449
Star Fox Assault had the best multiplayer, this is a fact
>not a single mention of the limp dick soundtrack
Only nostalgia fags would object. Shit sounds like Saturday morning cartoon shit compared to the absolutely epic space opera of the original game.

>>383658302
Nigga you can't pick out Venom fucking Tunnels and call that a fair comparison. It's the fucking Venom Tunnels, a transition from Star Wolf to Andross that serves to let him give the player ominous messages as they draw nearer.
>>383657573
Retard, that is not a good comparison. It was made for 64, and only ever intended to be played on one. So it should totally be judged on that. Pacman was an arcade game, and later had a shit ass port to the 2600. You should judge that based on the arcade version
okay....
okay
so how easy is it to get project64, the games i miss, and configure them to work with a xbox controller
>>383659749
Should Tomb Raider be judged by it's Saturn version?
It's not about originality, it's about superiority. By your logic, I could apply all of those flaws to every n64 game ever and could dock 3 points from every review score for them.
>>383653152
>>383660265
Was it actually originally developed exclusively for the Saturn? (Actual question, I do not know) If so then yes, it should. Also I didn't mean it should be judged for being on 64, that wasn't worded well. I meant the game should be judged when played on a real 64, as that's how it was meant to be played
biggest problem I have with SF64 is it does have a pretty severe lack of difficulty
difficulty modes would have been a great addition to the game
especially when you compare it to its best contemporary Sin and Punishment the difference is fairly stark
Your daddy screamed reeaaaal good before he DIED!
>>383653107
Slippy had a shit voice actor and didn't actually get one half way decent until Assault
Aquas
Katina
Frame Rate
Landmaster
lack of difficulty
>>383653107
fucking hated aiming with the landmaster, titania and macbeth were brought down because of it even though they're excellent levels
>>383658302
jesus dude dont cherrypick that badly ever again
It's like taking melee and brawl's soundtrack and comparing metal battle to pikmin 1 ambient noises and saying brawl's soundtrack is the worst in gaming history
>>383663306
Brawl does have a fucking shit soundtrack though
>>383653107
James is dead. I wanted him to come back with Fox so badly when I was little.
>>383653107
Zoness boss was aggravating as fuck the first time through and then the rematch with star wolf felt like artificial difficulty for the longest time on expert mode
>>383653107
The submarine levels.
>>383663842
*level
>>383653107
Slippy's voice.
>>383657993
Assuming you play with a houserule Wolf ban.
>>383663842
also, the sun level where you take damage for flying too low.
That level's annoying because I'm always flying at the very top of the screen and my temperature alarm is still going off in the background.
>>383655803
nah he just takes too long to explain simple ideas, his editing and voice are bland.
>Katina's timer is random
There is no randomness. Each event is based on several factors and whichever one hits its mark first.
The mothership spawns after a certain amount of time has passed OR you defeat 10 enemies.
The mothership's core appears after a certain amount of time has passed OR the hatches open a certain amount of times OR all hatches are destroyed.
Unless you're talking about the timer that starts after the core appears, which is also wrong. It's always 1 minute before it fires.
While I do understand the hate for Aquas, I find it very atmospheric and definitely a unique level in the game that I enjoy. It has my favorite music track in the entire game too, and that's saying something considering how great the OST is.

Call me a casual shit but no suspend feature kind of kills it for me.
>>383664771
of fucking course it is dumbass you're only a couple hundred feet at best away from the literal surface, it's not going to make much of a difference
also, solar was a very fun level get the fuck out of here you could've at least said the bolse satellite
How do you guys not like Katina? That level is fucking radical. It's "just fuck my framerate up senpai" the level, but it's great for that.
Inferior clone of the SNES original.
>>383665081
love this song buddy
>>383653107
It's forever cursed to never get the sincere, bullshit-free sequel it deserves.
>tfw got all the medals in expert mode when I was younger
>go back and play it as an adult and be a shitter, but still have a fucking blast.
Seriously one of my top games of all time. It just never gets old for me
>>383653107
I remember when I lost my first tooth and then rented this game. Me, my dad, and my sisters played 4 player split screen.
>>383653107
too different from the first two games
branches
furries
framerate drops
land sections
actually half the levels shitty gimmicks
>>383665830
What did the SNES game bring to the table that 64 didn't?
>>383666220
I got it for my birthday, we went to a park where there was also a nearby public pool and a huge playground.
I remember pacing all around with the instruction manual, excited as all hell to get home as fast as I could to play it and FEEL DAT RUMBLE PAK
>>383667310
>too different from the first two games
Unfair comparison. Star Fox 2 was not available to the public when 64 was released.
>>383666164
>Takes 1-2 hours to complete a playthrough
>Easily over 50 hours of playtime in total, plus the time spent in multiplayer
What a great game, I should get the 3DS remake
>>383667421
doesn't matter, i can play it now which is pretty relevant regarding what i consider issues now
>>383667508
Not him, but you're a fucking putz.
>>383667368
A concise, focused campaign without shitty vehicles or game modes.
It's too short.
>>383667689
Long arcade games suck
>>383667508
Still an unfair comparison, you're not playing the completed Star Fox 2.
Also since Star Fox 64 was designed to evolve on Star Fox and not 2, I contest that it actually does matter. Comparing to an unreleased game doesn't make sense.
>>383667604
Thank you.
>>383667654
Alright man. StarFox 64 was just as playable in a single session as the SNES games. But you do you.
>>383665923
>good taste in music
>Hollow knight
My whity
>>383667737
I can beat the whole game in like 45 minutes. 8 or 9 levels at 5-6 minutes each. Even for 1997 that's too short in my eyes.
>>383653107
too easy
>>383665081
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hkYCFBnvPLA
EVEN BOSS BATTLES ORIGINAL FUCKING WINS
>>383668040
Star Fox 64 is an arcade game at heart, around and hour is optimal for a game that's meant to be playable multiple times.
The voice acting is terrible.
All aircraft report!
>>383654435
Git gud
>>383668467
I saw my life flash before my eyes!
>>383668467
Slippy's ship is in the docking bay.
>>383653107
Shitty graphics
>but for the time
Fuck off, you asked for a flaw, and it's a glaring one for today.
I'm not even a huge Starfoxfag, but you're right, there is no glaring flaw or failure in design. It's a good ass video game.
>>383669195
Wrong. So sad.
>>383653107
Slippy
>>383669287
Is a cute andPeppy's boyfriend
>>383658302

Falco here, no problem.
>>383665803
>FOOOOOOX, THAT'S ONE OF OUR'S
>>383653378
Git gud.
>>383654435
No you fumb fuck, you use the charged shots without lock on and get more points because it is harder to do it.
>Let Slippy get hit down by the baby robot that wants its CREATOR
>That freaky fucking skeleton bug thing you have to fight
It definitely wasn't the hardest fight, but god damn did that thing freak me out as a kid.
>>383653548
Don't worry anon, it's also one of my favorites. Probably top 5 actually.
>>383654435
lmao that's because_______u need to git gud my B_____
>>383655381
Collecting medal in every stwge takes you at least 3 runs. Them you get the hard mode where enemies are faster and your wing brake with one hit and if you get medals in every stage again you can play with the characters on foot on multiplayer.
>>383670673
that really is the hardest level in the game for noobs who are just going for survival, though
>when you complete the hard route for the first time
>>383654435
I got all the medals on expert mode and never knew about that.
>>383671327
The whole credits sequence is put together so well
