It's really hard to tell. On one hand it's fucking Dragonball and it's effectively the true successor to the mvc series, but on the other hand it's a fighting game, which is a niche genre, but they are making efforts to "casualize" for a broader audience. I think it'll be very well recieved and if Namco puts even a quarter as much of effort as Capcom does with their whole Esports shit than I could see it being very successful actually. Combine good reception among fans and the press with esports shit and it could actually be huge, or bigger than the fgc expect.

If by "save", you mean "having good fighting games", then it's already saved, we are actually in a bit of a golden age of them at the moment. The problem right now is that the FGC is hostile to new IP's, so many of them aren't really played, and sucks capcom's dick. This might solve the latter, but probably not the former completly.

The only new IP released in the past almost 2 decades that's got mainstream FGC success is injustice, and it and other NRS games still have a lot of people against them. KI and Pokken are also great new fighting game IP's that have been almost totally neglected by the FGC at large. Skullgirls is another example.

If you want to save fighting games, the FGC needs to be open to new things.

Golden Age? LMAO! I think the supposed Dark Ages of the PS2 saw some of the genre's best fighters. This supposed Golden Age of fighters is mostly just shitty NRS garbage, the same crazy over the top Animu Arcsy bullshit, an average Kof game in 3d (Not bad, but not good either. It's the 3d version of Kof96 or 99.), a hit or miss SF gam, A DOA game that's actually gud for once and Tekken. Tekken is always good for the most part. I don't really like Tekken but they can be counted on at releasing gud gaems.

This golden age you speak of sounds more like a drought to me. It's mostly just the same established IPs which have always existed. Even Killer Instinct is just old crap from the 90s.

I think fighting games are in a decent spot right now as far as presence goes (don't feel like debating mechanics and all right now since I know that's a part of it all). By no means is the genre pushing Call of Duty numbers or anything like that, but it's at least currently stable enough to still receive games on a moderate basis. The new DBZ fighting game will help supplement the genre rather than "save" it.

Because he fills an important role as a DB villain for part 1, and like I said we're not getting King Piccolo (just like we're not getting Majin Vegeta). And considering they said they plan to cover all generations, he's the only representative left really who covers DB part 1 as a villain, unless you think Pilaf is getting in over him or General Blue. And General Blue would have been another character that while not on the level of Tao was a competent fighter (Kid Goku never beat him), but still retains being a joke fighter so if she laughs while deconfirming him people wouldn't question it at all.

Did it ever occur to you as well that she could be joking? The thing that clues me in was the laugh of deconfirming a non joke character. She didn't sound serious or it could be one of those examples where they lower people's expectations and surprise them with a character people want. People don't want Super because Super is ass cancer that reuses character designs out the ass and give other characters shitty palette swaps. I mean an Evil Goku clone? It's like they took the question, "What would an evil Goku be like?" at face value without realizing we've done that already with Cell, it's a rehashed concept. The character designs are oc tier garbage like all the new saiyans, and the only decent looking character Zamasu I guess, though that's mostly cause of his fashion sense. Hit in particular is incredibly overrated, this guy's design is rubbish and looks like he traced over Cell's face while taking some light inspiration from Frieza and giving a trenchcoat that's seemingly a part of his body, which is a terrible example of "thinking outside the box". Seriously look at all the mecha in Super and compare them to Caramel men in Dr Slump, or even the fur people in Super and compare them to like monster Carrot who has far more personality than all furshit in Super combined.

The only thing possibly canon about that whole bit of filler was Kale's transformation since it does occur in response to overwhelming emotional response. The rest is completely inconsistent with how super saiyan transformation actually worked in Z, and prior to that bit of retarded filler. Otherwise, Gohan wouldn't have needed to get the Kamehameha blast from Goku to turn super saiyan, Trunks (in the future) would've learned how to from Gohan without seeing Gohan dead. Goku and Gohan are the type of people who give you information if they're teaching someone because they want them to be able to practice it.

The filler was just a way to bypass having to write a multi-episode storyline to show how, in a way that makes sense with how turning super saiyan the first time is supposed to work, so they can capitalize on merchandising as quickly as possible.

I did up until Monty died and Shane left. The only redeeming thing about the show outside of the music and character designs were the action scenes, and without original animators/choreographers there wasn't much reason to continue.
