Ni no Kuni was for kids, that's why it was not a hit in Japan like it was in the the west. Western teens and adults admired the Ghibli aesthetic in the game, while western kids are too busy playing Pokemon and Minecraft. Japanese children are allowed more exposure to darker things and strategy, so these types of games are the norm for them.

the game was sold as a studio ghibli game and that's why people thought it was not childish but it had nothing to do with SG. it's childish as fuck and the gameplay is simplistic and undercooked as fuck also.
