The combat is enjoyable imo but it could take some getting used to with loading skills and the cooldowns
The only real downside is that the game is slowly losing its population, so you don't really see all that many new players anymore

FFXIV is cool if you are looking for a legit adventure. Fun guaranteed, but endgame is kind of meh, all dailies.
Kritika is the flavor of the month, fun combat but its instanced, just like Vindictus.

People getting banned left and right on the forums for valid PvP criticism since detailed posts are "trolling." The final straw for me was the boss during the living story. A few of the achievements were bugged and anet were a bunch of smug pricks essentially saying "have to tried to git gud?" And what do you know, the next day there's a hotfix for bugged achievements.

Only thing I didn't really like was combat and the female faces. Combat's grown on me now that I'm more leveled. Shame about the faces though.

Great, but the problem with mmo discussion is you actually have to keep up with shit otherwise your criticism tends to fall flat due to recent changes. It has never been this easy to get a legendary, or legendary armor. There are still mindless farms if that's your thing. PvP is legit going back to its roots and just being fun instead of this esports garbage. They've gotten much better at bosses in general.
I'm not telling you to try the game again, I don't care whether others play it or not, but it's always just so odd that whenever gw2 criticism pops up it's shit from like 2012 instead of actual big problems the game is facing now (like they LITERALLY said someone at anet would have to work {{{for free}}} just to introduce a keyring into the game - management is ded at anet).

I'm fighting myself to get back into Uncharted Waters Online. I really can't tell you why the game has me hooked but fuck. That feeling of making your first proper trip to the americas is pretty nice

I bought guild wars 2 before the expansion came out but didnt really played too much since my old computer couldn't handle it too well. Should i play now considering i wont be playing with friends? How are guilds?

If GW2 had the trinity I'd be playing it. XIV even after 4.0 launch is barren as fuck and is literally just login to do dailies. WoW is in a better situation than previous expansions, but has trust issues getting people back after the mistakes they made. Most other games seem kind of dead or niche and hard to sell.

If Legion's titanforging stopped at like 5/10 ilevels and legendaries were handled better it'd be the best expansion they've done period.

the game is better now than it has ever been. You can pick up the xpac for 15-20 bucks nowadays easily, but it is by no means required but adds lots of end game content.

Just start chatting in maps or in lions arch and ask for invites to guilds, you'll make some in game buddies to do stuff with pretty fast.

Everquest has that new Agnarr server that won't progress past PoP. I kind of want to try that out but kind of don't because it's got a cash shop.

It's not the prettiest MMO around, leveling is a bit slow, optimization can feel 50/50 at times if you try to run ultra high on everything forever.

Biggest thing is probably the combat and limited action set are hit or miss for a lot of people, you still need to "aim" but projectiles home in so its not like you can headshot etc, but I like having an active block/roll as well as light and charged attacks as part of the gameplay. You also have 5 skills + 1 ultimate spread across two bars you can swap in combat so its less keybinds more short duration abilities you are constantly weaving.

Cash Shop is terrible in a good way as its purely cosmetic but fairly expensive so if you do feel like splurging it feels kinda terrible for the return. The DLC isn't required and all the gear in the game scales to a specific point so an armor set from the first quest zone and a raid armor set both serve a purpose, its a horizontal treadmill at cap not vertical.

Biggest catch is really no free trial but they do free weekends occasionally but no idea when those come up.

It's not even that, it's literally the definition of Pay2Win, when they do the fresh start from scratch servers someone can just dump $1000 down and be an unstoppable monster. Which is exactly what a guy named Kirito did on the latest fresh start servers

The game has solid systems but it is designed around hooking in whales and the grind as a F2P player is almost impossible, grind as a subscribed player is still almost impossible.

I never tried Rift much sadly, I thought it looked really fun but I was too busy playing Lotro, another game that got absolutely fucked by its developer.

I like DFO. The stamina system is fucking awful, though, but you can mitigate it decently with the fatigue potions you get by playing.

But I like arcadey games and mindless grinding for bigger numbers so it works for me for a couple hours a day.

A Tanks job is to keep enemies attention and not die, nowadays thats become "press aggro button -> press defensive cooldown"

Healers should be about supporting/buffing/keeping people alive but its just whack a mole staring at health bars or doing nothing.

Tanks/Healers aren't allowed to do as much/more damage as DPS classes because then whats the point of DPS? Due to the ratio of Tanks/Healers to DPS you also can't make them absurdly strict and complex because then you lower the population even more.

Big MMOs have pushed all the complexity onto damage dealing and created environments where doing as much damage as humanely possible is the only way to play, best tank? It's the tank that can tank and also do damage, healer is the same thing. It's not about group synergy, its not about fulfilling certain requirements, its literally "X role is so easy that the only way I can grow is to just add more damage".

Open PvP but designated areas as well, the game was designed around people actually doing the world PvP areas.

It still had battlegrounds but they weren't as fun, and the map open world "keeps" were designed well enough to allow for funneling/flanking so massive zergs didn't always win out since player collision existed. If you just kept running into a meatwall with Bright Wizards behind it you were never going to get past it.

I want a modern MMO with Tibia style housing. Not sandbox where people can build shit anywhere, but towns and hubs and little inns where people can buy the houses and turn them into shops. I guess BDO has something like that but all the housing is shared I think and its limited what you can do with it. I wanna open a shop in an mmo!!

Revan stuff has been over for a couple years now. The main problem with TOR in the last few years is that they basically stopped pretending to be a mmo and largely geared it towards playing solo. Companions were made strong enough that you could solo group quests, story important dungeons were given solo modes and I can't remember the last time they added a raid. A few years back the game was still making more than $100m a year despite a skeleton crew working on it.
