i think the difference is that when skyrim comes out again for a new platform, they charge 60$ like greedy fucks. Re4 is $20 or less almost every single time it comes out again.

I'll never understand this argument. I didn't hate 5 but it isn't even half the game that 4 is. Pacing, which is 4's greatest strength, is completely fucked in 5. There is no ebb and flow to the environments and the whole experience feels a little bit like a chore because there isn't any space to breathe. Compare that to 4 which had 3 extremely distinct environments that all had arcs of their own.

Then there's the fact that 5 completely fucked up the feel of the combat by ruining the responsiveness of the enemies. In 4 if you get a headshot on a regular enemy they will stagger, in 5 it can take 3 or 4 shots. This change ruins the combat.

Then there's the story. In 4 it's fun and campy, and never takes itself too seriously. 5 throws that out the window and expects you to really care about whats going on, ruining the fun in the process. 5 is a joyless game, 4 is a masterpiece.

Things is both RE1 and RE4 are directed by Mikami and both draw inspiration from different horror movies, as you kind of pointed out.
