Which does /v/ prefer and why? I'm looking into buying a retro console and settled on one of these two. One big turn off is that a lot of the games I want for the N64 have already been remade for other systems (which I have).

Most of the good first party games from both systems like Zelda, Mario, and Metroid have been ported and those are the definitive version of the games. The two Resident Evil games also have definitive ports now.
I'd say GameCube because it has a lot of niche stuff like killer7, Eternal Darkness, Baten Kaitos, Biller Hatcher and Skies of Arcadia. I'm also pretty sure that Super Mario Sunshine is locked away on the GameCube still to this day.

Gamecube has a great library and its controller was at least designed for humanoid aliens.

GC is literally 2 N64s with sometweaks.
Wii is 2 GCs taped together, literally.
Wii u is 3 GCs taped together, literally again.

>>383626528
imo both suck
however the 64 has a nice racing library (gc has gx, though):
>wipeout64
>cruis'n USA
>f-zeroX
>world driver championship

Fuck, didn't saw that you wanted to know wich one you should buy.
The response is neither : get a wii, a few gamecube controllers, a memory card
Then, hack the shit out of it and play all the Wii/GC/N64/SNES/... games that you want

Why not just get a Wii U? You get all that plus Wii U games.
>>383629793
Wii U costs more and he'll need a gc controller adapter
