I wholly agree that Monokuma is a more entertaining character. And Junko's whole behavior either makes you laugh or doesn't, if it doesn't you're guaranteed to hate it. It's just that people who bitch about her being "literally the Devil" miss the point by a mile. She is literally the devil as portrayed in 19th-century literature because Danganronpa is about the exploration of traditional roles of hope and despair archetypes in art through the lens of pop culture. It sounds up its own ass, but it's an interesting meta-level to compliment the whole Japanese high school angle as well as the symbolic exploration of high-stress situations.

You're absolutely right though. DR's bad writing comes from the setting and concept being much more high quality than what the writers can reliably deliver on. The characters themselves and along with the concept are what sells DR, IMO.

I'm so fucking mad at 2's ending to be honest. It still has a lot of good in it, like Hajime just accepting the "future" without any promises of hope and despair is a great ultimate fuck you to both Junko and Izuru. But the fucking reveals themselves are awful, Izuru literally fucks off despite being the cornerstone of the plot AND the thematic villain (HE'S LITERALLY ANIME JESUS WITH CROSSHAIR-CROSSES IN HIS EYES) only for Junko to try and fill the world with Junkos (literally what, Junko would consider that the most boring thing in the Universe because she knows herself inside out). I'm still frustrated.
3 anime and 3 the game were both even worse tho. Danganronpa worked best as a two-parter and they really should have done a hard-hard-hard reboot right after, maybe revisit the original darker concept.

Mind control was the worst, just like any other attempt to "enrich" Junko's character. Her whole point is having no character outside of being terminally bored because she knows how to do ANYTHING. Ever cheated in a game only to feel too bored to play it? That's Junko and that's all there is to her personality-wise. Is there any difference between the PC version and Vita?

I loved both DR1 and SDR2, but DAE, I think, made me feel the most emotions. Part after descending tower, when both just keep silent and barely talk to each other felt like actual real life shit. WoH literally falling apart when triggering their memories really felt unsettling and sad. Komaru's little speech of hope (and following permanent change of her animations to more brave-looking once) felt inspiring despite game being piss easy. Seriously, even on hard monokumas just wank around most of time, Komaru has loads of ammo, and even if you somehow piss all ammo you always have Shyou on stand-by[/spolier], and I'll say that whole part after Monaca's fight was one of best climaxes in video-games I remember.

That said, DR3 seriously need to be officially reduced to what-if/non-canon/never happened status. It doesn't have any value outside of few fanservice scenes, shits all over characters and even in moments of something interesting, it manages to waste all potential.
As example - Kyoko's "death" scene could lead to much better resolution then "she left notebook, then rose from dead because Mikan randomly stumbled upon her". She could get scarred by poisoning, but antidote could stop it doing any lethal damage. She could just wake up and disappear to help Makoto in the end and fuck mastermind over (if only there were actual mastermind).

PC has mouse+keyboard controls which don't make your hands hurt (also probably make game much easier, since aiming at eyes and shit. Not sure, talking out of ass here, never played shooters on pad). Also higher resolutions which don't look like upscaled shit. Other than that, probably no. Not sure what to cut/add in that game.
PC port is very good, I must say. I was afraid it would lag at least sometimes on my toaster, but this game ran flawless 60 fps in full screen from start to finish, doesn't die from alt-tabbing and properly locks/unlocks mouse in windowed mode.

Resolution is 1080p, and I have many new games on hold/backlog because they lag alot. Plus, in DR1 I noticed some wee lags when running around school. They were not critical, but they were there, and 3D environments in DR1 are Doom 1-tier as you might know.
