Those two games proved that 3D and fixed camera angles can still provide a fun playing space while staying true to Resident Evil's formula. Resident Evil 4 gave way to the retarded actionfests that are 5 and 6, which forced Capcom to rethink the formula once again and utterly miscalculate what it was that attracted people to play and love Resident Evil.

If REmake2 had prerendered backgrounds like REmake or high-fidelity 3D backgrounds with mostly-fixed camera angles like DC or CV, then it'll be fucking amazing.

The corridor in Dino Crisis where the camera has a restricted viewing angle and it follows you from outside (as if you're stealthily hunting Regina) was incredible for its day.

VII also lacks the optimism and American Hero as Written by Japanese Writer quirk Resident Evil has always had.
All that, and VII lacks a Mercs mode of some variety, as well as any meaningful extra modes.

Having returning characters are debatable, but it does not define a franchise, and as to what is charismatic is debatable.

It had the claustrophobic setting and puzzle solving of the earlier titles and wtfuckery as well. It returned with save tokens (Ink Ribbons -> Cassette Tapes) and item boxes. It takes place in a sprawling "creepy" estate, with evil residents.

REVII is more Revelations than classic RE. Atmosphere, IMO, is what makes an RE game. There is an intelligence at work in the creation in the RE monsters, from the Plant 42, to Licker, to Birkin, etc.

The creatures in 6 are mostly just haphazard abominations, overtly complex with no use. Failed experiments cast aside.

Zombies, Hunters, Lickers, Cerberus - these are all iconic creatures from the RE universe. Simplistic designs are the best kind. RE6 didn't know what the fuck it wanted to do in regards to monsters. Even the zombies were your neo sprinter and screecher types.

Post your favourite underrated characters

The last "real" RE game there was is RE: CV. It had the trademarks of an RE game. Non linear, exploratory/puzzle setting with monsters. Your main goal isn't to blast every creature in sight, it was to solve the puzzles, open more of the map to explore, and to survive.

The next closest is RE7, albeit in a first person perspective, but you have plenty of ammunition to take care of all the monsters. It comes the closest to classic RE gameplay and setting.

When the Castle Version was shown it looked amazing but I didn't like that it seems now wholly 3D. I was disappointed when they scrapped it, and hoped they might go back toa CV-esque style. I wasn't a big fan of the next build they showed at E3 2003, since it looked like a big departure from the Resident Evil formula. When it dropped the the Gamecube I thought it looked cool but didn't really care for it as an RE game since it didn't play like one. That said, I did enjoy it — I never considered it a proper RE game. I rented it, completed it once and then didn't play it again for years util I saw it in a bargain bin Blockbuster closure firesale.

This is actually why I like Claire. You also have to remember that she's a 19 year old with two motorcycles and was a college student. She was probably taking literally 80% of Chris' paychecks and he was going without for her sake. Everything about her says she's spoiled. Idk Leon is boring to me. I like him, but I don't care about Ada and his interactions with her (typically, I find Leonfags played 2/4 first or during their more formative years and grew fond of him for that reason or are just dudes that wish they were him and he's not as "threatening" as a babe like Chris is because STEROIDS THOUGH!!). Chris is dumb and I honestly don't think his personality is extremely strong and he's kind of a pushover, which is why I think he works well with Jill who is vocal and will snap back when needed to. He's soft, but I like that.

I like the extent he went to for Jill and I like their friendship even if it's just limited to that. Leon feels like there's no progress at all other than he's just tired. I don't understand why either of them have to be so lazily done (or Jill has to get sidelined). They're the three mains, so it would be nice if they just stopped fucking around and made a good game full of idiots high-fiving, suplexing, and making bad jokes with the occasional gore, internal monologuing, and unique comments on areas or things you examine.

Why does it have to be a fight when they're all idiots fighting for the same cause?

Have you done any challenge runs of any of the RE games? My favorite I have done so far is beating the original RE using only the knife while also getting the best ending. Shit's pretty fun and I can do it under two hours now.
