It is fun in short bursts but in general 1 is way more playable for me. I'd reccomend the "radical remake" mod for 2, it's a graphical overhaul with a few gameplay tweaks although it's not 100% finished yet

That's because it relies on revenues from dolphin shows, which take a LONG time to even pay for themselves, let alone make any money. It is possible to cheese it with the money cheat, but that only gets you so far. That one is a bitch to beat within the given time limit even if you cheat.

Okay I've downloaded it as a two-part .RAR file. How do you deal with this kinda thing again? I have them both in the same folder, do I just unzip and merge or is there something more involved than that I have to do? Google is giving me mixed info.

Excellent question. My main focus would be to refine the two aspects that draw people to the series, and make a game that can do both of these two things well enough to interest both types of players:
1. A proper business simulation with an economy that works properly.
2. A "fucking around with animals simulator".

For the first point, I'd take more cues from ZT1 and how the economy works in that game. ZT2 is a fun game, but it's pretty difficult to run a zoo that actually MAKES MONEY.

For the second point, I'd take more inspiration from games like Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis and even the Far Cry series. It really depends how far you want to take that; whether we should let people shoot animals for fun or just keep it PG. However I think we can all agree that fights between animals and the way animals could be done better. Not necessarily more gruesome, but more fun to watch in any case.

For example, in both games the only animal that can actually kill guests is the T. rex, which swallows them whole. And again in both games, animals will only attack adult male guests and not women or children.

In ZT1 most other carnivores (e.g. lions, tigers, larger dinosaurs) will "rough up" guests, which is quite funny to watch. In ZT2 this happens extremely rarely. Bizarrely enough one of the only animals I can seem to get to attack guests in ZT2 is the rhino, which sends them flying with its horn (also funny to watch, but happens very infrequently for some reason).

Your point about sea invertebrates reminded me of yet another easter egg in ZT1. You can enrol a jellyfish in a seaworld show (the game does not tell you this), but its only tricks are "swim up" and "swim down".

Safari options. I remember sealing off the entrance of the maps and just filling it with animals and watching them fight, so I'd like an option to create a giant exhibit where visitors can take rides through it and see animals up close. Also indoor exhibit creation and small animals so I can build little lizard and fish exhibits inside a comfy building.
