They probably could have gone with pic related, but I actually enjoy the final design in the OP. It doesn't imply that the game is meant to be played in a certain way, nor does it give off the impression that it's a grand, luxurious adventure, because it's not.

It's a quiet little underground world where your adventure is what you make of it. It suits well.

You're confusing dark with edgy. The game has plenty of balls to the wall silly moments and is legitimately funny at times. It just has a serious contrast within it's light and dark.

This. I don't think I've ever played a game that was as much of an emotional Rollercoaster. It has a masterful ability to switch from comedic, happy moments to genuine tragedy that made sense and didn't feel out of place in the world.

People don't have to stop liking things because other they don't like enjoy it as well. I personally don't care for Undertale, but I came to that conclusion myself instead of letting other presences shape my view for me. That being said, I honestly wonder what the reaction would be like if it were on Switch instead.
