I fucking love MGSV. It's funny how despite being a brainwashed body double, TPP makes you feel closer to Big Boss than any MGS game to come before. Just look at this motherfucker with his samurai warlord-ass ponytail and scarf blowing in the wind. He's literally the 'legend' of Big Boss itself made flesh, imagine the awe you'd feel just being in his presence, especially with all those ghost stories about the 'one-eyed man' who fights like a demon and balloons you away in your sleep.

I feel like the base building mechanics are there for the sake of immersion more than anything, the same way that MGS3's survival mechanics were there to make you feel like a predatory jungle commando, and MGS4's PTSD mechanics made you feel like an old man who is tired of war, MGSV puts you directly in the boots of the legendary mercenary leader himself, for better or worse. The responsibility falls on you alone to find out what's causing the infection among your men, even if you end up having to go through 500 individual staff members to quarantine them, because that is your responsibility as Big Boss. Yeah, you'll end up taking contract after contact for missions you have no personal or emotional stake in, because that's your JOB motherfucker. You wanted to be Big Boss, and you got it. Welcome to Outer Heaven.

How much am I missing playing V without having (conciously) played the other games? I mean, everything of course, but if I'm looking to play the other games in sequence some time?

I played MGS2 I think literally decades ago and remember next to nothing.

Quick question, MGS5 is the only game in the series I haven't played yet due to not owning a current-gen console. Is the PS3 version worth getting instead? Does the framerate and graphics difference affect the game that much? Are there any other differences between the current-gen and old-gen consoles?

Eh, I like this game too, but a lot of the complaints are very valid. Maybe not on this board, because of all the melodramatic hyperbolic babies on here. but In general, the game is conveyed awfully, the themes are half touched on, the multiplayer sucked, the whole second half of the game feels half finished, epilogue or not, and the missions do get pretty repetitive, whether they have bits of lore attached to them or not. It wouldn't have killed kojima to give these filler missions more exciting objectives, we're still playing a video game after all. Hitman does what mgs v couldn't do better as far as making killing some nobody fun and entertaining.

I fucking hate the second half of this game because it's just the first half but harder. They could have done all kinds of new missions with the outposts and bases that they have around the map. I still love the game but yeah it has it's flaws. and some big flaws too.

Yeah, the fact that the maps never change is one of the biggest crimes this game has imo. Considering how less dense the map is compared to your average open world, and how he tried to "change the game" with his definition of the open world, you think it wouldn't have killed him to add some progressive changes to the map as the story continues. Make PMCs react to DD, destroyed base camps of locations you had already been to in previous missions, new base camps put up elsewhere, soviets and PMF soldiers building new camps in different locations, fortifying base camps you already took over, even little visually changes would have made you feel like you were doing something.

Thanks, I played GZ and enjoyed it a lot, although only ran through it once (extensively though I like to explore everything) but it's seems like it was meant to be played a few times at least. Guess I'll get an emulator and look into playing the originals some time.

Not even halfway through V and already this is among the most strongly melancholy games I've ever played, up there with Max Payne games. I like that the writing and VA and other stuff are relatively subdued despite the somewhat heavy and alternately bombastic subject matter. At least a lot more than I was expecting from an action game focused on solid gameplay.
