I will say this, even as a kid i realised she was WAY more confident and cool about shit than Cloud or Tifa. To me personally it was about rationalizing their behaviors in a gritty setting I took very seriously. Same for VI with similar grim interpretations. It serves as grounding the plot and themes.

(In both I think humor is vital, because a world of nothing but suffering and moping about it without joy is thoroughly unrealistic. I also reached these conclusions before I knew what a waifu was, much less NTR or other fetish stuff. I just took it as great characterization of nuanced, flawed but wonderful people.)
