I sunk hundreds of hours into Sims 1 with just 1 expansion. Years later finally got my hands on Hot Date and it just felt kinda shitty.

Sims 3 vanilla with a difficult enhancing mod is even fun as it is. Half the problem with the sims is there's no real difficulty slider, so people who arent bored Soccer Moms and teenage casuals get bored outside of roleplaying.

There were some mods for Sims 3 that multiplied the penalties of negative moodlets. Makes it REALLY hard to keep a positive mood when going to work. You stop getting a promotion every day and instead find yourself struggling to not lose your job if you're not careful.

Higher bills mods make day to day living and balancing funds properly hard too.

3 has issues with load times and performance, where the more expacs you have installed the worse it goes. It's recommended to only have like 4 or 5 expacs installed at once at most.

I remember after playing The Sims 2 for a while I started messing around with...I guess devtools? Command line type stuff. To be honest the main thing that got me into it was my autism being frustrated at how the grid lock makes it impossible to center certain objects with each other. Anyways, at one point I got distracted enough that one of my Sims was an hour late for work, still in bed as the carpool was about to leave. I panicked and used the command that disabled move permissions to directly teleport my still sleeping sim into the car. I was honestly curious how the game would handle it, like if it would figure out that he was in a car and shift him into the proper animation. Instead the car drove off with him awkwardly sticking out the side door, and he vanished from the game completely. That's the closest I've come to abusing any of my sims.
