GTA IV and it's expansions, probably the best open world game I've ever played
>>
>>383550308
on paper the most amazing mmo, too bad it's being run by greedy jews.

fastest refund I've ever done.

what game?

an absolute shit tier korean grind
but that first month was pure bliss
>>
>>383550360
gta IV's world didn't feel convincing to me. yes, I've seen the videos of all the ragdoll shit and the way characters drop their coffee, etc.

at the end though it was just a bleak, bland NYC facsimile. it didn't help that the controls were atrocious. nico walked like he was wearing magnets on his shoes.

Optimization problems I'm guessing? It doesn't run amazingly well but i still get 80-90 fps most of the time
>>
>>383550587
Ok, what's your opinion on GTA V?
>>
>>383550414
where did you drop it?
I remember having to chase this one guy on a bike through a subway before I realized how broken an unfun it was.
>>
>>383550724
didn't play it. how does it compare? should I?
>>

story is garbage tier compared
>>

and IV's was already shit. wow.
>>
>>383550767
>>383550618
In my case, the driving was too slow and I stopped at the first 'date' mission.

the game ran pretty well on my shittop though.
>>
if dragon's dogma just had fast travel from the beginning it'd be god tier, but i understand it's supposed to be in a hardcore oldschool rpg sort of vein. i still remember getting 1 shotted by a bandit leader because i was underleveled. fun game still.
>>
>>383550103
gta iv is a masterpiece, faggot

i couldn't deal with the interface

Depends on how long you played, IV's story is one of the best imo. Unless you're underage, that's where V comes into play
>>
>>383550724
It's shit.
>>
>>383552340
10x more shitty than IV, that's for sure

IV physics were so much fucking fun

V feels like one of the dreams where you're running in quicksand, going fast as you can but something isn't letting you go anywhere. The shooting mechanics are the same feeling.

Also wtf is up the the car damage? In IV you can fucking flatten a car like a pancake. I'm V you can drive the fastest car in the game at full speed into a brick wall and barely get a dent. It totally ruins any sense of immersion for me
>>

Open world, not bowling games.

>gta IV's world didn't feel convincing to me
I always expect criticism towards GTA IV, but never for this reason. If there's something I find Rockstar to be pretty good at is conceiving believable worlds.
>>
>>383553520
the game is shit get over it
>>
>>383554101
You're shit just like your opinion, give me a better example of an open world game. Either you have no patience to get into a game like GTA IV or you just have shit taste. Probably both.
>>
>>383550197
This, RDR has one of the best open-worlds i've ever seen in a game.

GTA IV has a good map but ultimately so many things cut from SA
>low amount of buildings to enter
>a lot of clothing option is gone, there's no t-shirt option or even hats and glasses apart from the one in the Russian Shop
>ads that promote a phone number to call but get nothing when dialed into the game's phone

Just finished replaying The Lost and Damned; thought it was pretty great overall.

Haven't played anything GTA IV in a long time so I got the chance to reacquaint myself with everything. The movement was probably the worst thing about the experience; it was too stiff and frustrating at times; Johnny would sometimes go in completely random directions, although that may be because of my old controller. The shooting and driving are where it really starts to come good though; I loved using the physics and some of the environment to get kills, the crosshairs felt fluid even with a controller, and it was very satisfying to get headshots after seeing people flop around a bit when you shoot them with weak guns. The 9mm is still viable even at endgame and that was nice too. I think I finished with an 83% headshot rate and 99% free aim percentage.

As for the driving, I loved how you had to be very methodical with it and develop strategies for using specific cars and bikes, such as figuring out which curbs to avoid and which apexes to hit. The cars having weight was great. All this coupled with the AI being able to strike you and spin you out very quickly during bike races made them very tense and fun to play. Supercars are also properly rare too; I think I saw one Turismo my whole playthrough and one Infernus, this made them desirable. Overall, I love the feeling of constantly being on a knife-edge and actually being mindful of other cars while behind the wheel, and it made the game a charm to play.

As for the mission design and story, I loved the good amount of close-quarters apartment shootouts TLAD had; they also felt tense because you never knew when someone was going to rush through the door, punch you and pump you full of holes. I also loved the shitholes the shootouts took place in. Besides those, the prison break and escaping cops with Malc were highlights.

Storytelling was great imo; I'm working on a Johnny analysis for fun, and I'll see how it goes.
>>
>>383549940
Funny how I've been seeing a good number of GTA IV threads right after I started playing through it.
>>
>>383549940

IV's open-world was incredibly bland.
>>
>>383554341

Then you need to play more games.
>>
>>383550618
I never understood why people had optimization issues
Mine has always run flawlessly, no matter what card it's on
>>
>>383555576
I actually just finished replaying TLAD a couple days ago, you're pretty spot on!
>>383555736
I feel like that's all up to how the player chooses to free roam, whenever I'm off mission I feel like there is endless shit to mess around with. I guess that's all up to player creativity though
>>
>>383555782
It's funny how people like you always criticize others' opinions but never have any better games to suggest.
>>
>>383555937

What was there to do?

I love it. I was raised by Christian fundamentalists so wasn't able to play GTA games until I moved out, in 2014. so I missed GTA V, but tried it out and couldn't get into it.
now I think I'm addicted. as I'd mentioned, I played through VC, but also SA and III before that, dabbled in I II and London just for fun, beat V last night, and am now on IV. this all within the course of under a month.

I like the shift in bleak reality mixed in with silly satire. Though it does make kill sprees totally out of character.
>>
>>383555937
I liked the radio too; I played the final mission with Wanted Dead or Alive from Liberty Rock Radio blaring through my speakers and it was awesome. K100 was nice, my favorite song from there was probably I Need You. The Martin Serious Show off WKTT was good too. Need to check out the others and do the gang wars. Shame you can't watch TV after the story's over. Also, I just got why there's a Vice City FM in the Episodes (besides paying homage to VC); everyone makes fun of The Lost for being 1950's/1980's rejects and guess what VC FM plays. Can't wait to replay the base game someday and do a Niko analysis; he's one of GTA's most interesting and complex characters imo.
>>383557026
That's awesome; I'm really glad you like it. Make sure to pick up the Episodes from GTA IV when you have time, their stories connect very closely with the base game, and The Ballad of Gay Tony in particular has the old zanyness as well. And in general, make sure you try to do the hangouts, read your emails, find the random strangers, and go out with girlfriends (you can find them on the internet) when you have time; they're all a great source for character interactions, characterization and backstory, and doing them enough gives you gameplay rewards, such as car bombs, and the ability to lose your wanted level. One last thing, check out a website called whattheydonotwantyoutokknow.com on the in-game internet sometime. I'll think you'll be surprised; it may help you.
>>
>>383549940
There's no such thing as a god tier open world game
>>
>>383556034

Nothing.
>>
>>383550103
It's quite ambitious and surprised me as to what could be done on a console even with all those framerate drops
>>
>>383553082
gameplay is good, writing is horrid.
quite possibly yuri lowenthal's worst voice acting performance. game is pretty short as well. i think it is good in all, though.
>>
>>383557669
Gameplay is really all that matters, maybe I'll rent this game or pick it up if it's cheap
