Stop shillong this game. It will come out in q week or so. Make threads then when we actually have something to discuss.
>>
>>383538342

For anyone who's wondering what Grimoire is, it's an indie dungeon crawler 23 years in development, delayed countless times, dismissed as vaporware by many. The dev Clive Blakemore (who created the whole game with help from his son) is mentally-ill - he literally thinks he's a throwback to a mentally and morally superior race of neanderthals. It was meant to be finally released on Steam on the 7th, only for Clive to once again delay it for an unspecified amount of time, supposedly because he'd found a bug.

Hello my name is The Cleve,
And I'm making a game,
It's not just a tease,
It wont be super lame!

I promised, A game, back in 93'
There's tons of, Screen Shots, That you can see!

I swear it's not a scam!
Get your wallets warm,
You've waited 20 years,
What's a few years more?

Nah, I'd love it to be a burning trash heap, that would at least be an entertaining end to the saga. But if the bit of sape inside Cleve can ever push past his neanderthal perfectionism to release it you know the game will just be competent, if forgettable, dungeon crawler with some dated graphics and an unpolished UI.
>>
>>383540494
I'd call that a dumpsterfire by Cleve's standards
>>
>>383538342
in cleve's defense he did release a demo a couple of years ago(he was promising to release soon then too), that said it would not surprise me if he missed his next deadline and the one after that and the next one etc.

maybe because they've actually played the "full" version & know Clive will/is going to really release the full game

why else would they be silent & not do anything about him missing the deadline
>>
>>383542476
I think it's just because Steam doesn't probably review anything during weekends. However the game has accumulated already lot of reports so it should be reasonable to expect something happening on Valve side this week. If not... then they don't really care about their customers and let anyone just scam and make false store pages promising whatever games. I hope in this case there will be a backlash of sorts.

Also tomorrow 12/07/2017 is the net neutrality protest. I don't know how that will affect steam.

Wrong.

Protip: Cleve is testing us to see if we are worthy of his golden baby. He made Grimoire to prove a point to himself as a coder: that he could code a game as well as Sir-Tech. See>>383544681
Satisfied with himself, he is unsure whether he wants to release his creation to an unworthy world. He's already proven the point to himself, what do the views of others, lesser beings, "Sapes," matter?
Release is made less likely because Cleve is blackpilled on the world and views others as degenerate, evil, and unworthy, lesser beings; Sapes.
Each time he teases a release he gauges our responses, weighing us up to see if we are worthy of his creation. Each time so far, he has found us wanting.
Cleve will only release Grimoire if we prove ourselves worthy of his baby, if we prove ourselves as Neaderthals, if we can show to Cleve that he would accept us once and for all in his Neander-tribe with custody of his golden baby: Grimoire.

>Privately, I had begun to ruminate. As a result of idly thinking about how I'd do things differently if I produced a worthy sequel to the Wizardry series with my own capital, I began to realize that a bright guy could do it at a fraction of the price it would cost morons like the Siroteks through their comical trial and error.

>The Siroteks Communist style centralized approach virtually guaranteed a budget was required of a million dollars or more to get a game out using their process. I was certain a smarter person could do the same job a lot cheaper than they ever could.

>I had been thinking of a sequel to one of my old Commodore 64 3-D Games, a followup to Crypt of Fear, Vault of Terror, Tomb of Horror. The working title in my brain for this game had been Clock of Fate for a long, long time. I had formed this loose premise of a world where an antique clock is actually tied into the reality of the world and as it winds down with nobody to maintain it, the whole world is winding down with it. I decided to spruce up the title more to try to make it as baroque as BANE OF THE COSMIC FORGE. I did a bit of synonym searching in the thesaurus and I came up with something, something of the Metronome Mysterium. I think I was looking for words for the first part of the title when I found "Tome" attached to some suitable candidate.

>Wait, I was thinking, isn't there another more obscure word (not in the thesaurus) associated with an ancient book of magic or knowledge? French origins, maybe. Something to do with alchemistry. What was that ... oh, right ...

>GRIMOIRE. That was the word.

>So what if instead of having to write my own graphics engine and UI I just bought some third party product? That would slice off my first two months of work for the Siroteks. What if I got the Watcom Compiler (which the Siroteks should have provided me from the beginning if they had a clue) and started in flat protected mode C++ instead of C? That would shave enormous amounts of time off just getting rolling without a million headaches from the 523K real mode limit.

>I could slap the text editors together in Visual Basic for DOS for all the game data. I could slap a universal resource packer together in one day. I had looked at a lot of the code I wrote for the Siroteks and it was so primitive to me at this point it is like I was looking at the scrawlings of a child. Just like a Rubik's Cube, I thought, twist this, turn that, here we are. I could make a better turn-based Wizardry style RPG than the Siroteks could under my own steam.

>Unbeknownst to either Philip Moore or Max Phipps, I was a richly creative storyteller who had crafted ten thousand worlds for hundreds of games in my life. They had never figured it out but I had more imagination than the both of them put together ten times over. I never told either one of them because they probably thought queers have a monopoly on creativity but my mind was so much more active and vibrant that both of them were just dim bulbs in comparison. Like Dr. Manhattan, I would reassemble myself from the aether out of nothing at all.

>So I got started on it.

>>

Cyberpunk. CDPR have only just really started development on it, now that they're done with TW3. Expect to get some info on it by next year, and the game to come out by 2020 if not before. Same with Death Stranding.

It looks worse than any game coming out in the era where games are actually good, and THAT'S all that matters.

Gamers aren't going to accept shit like this. Games are an audio-visual medium. Games are about the story, and you can't have a good story without good graphics. The same way you can't have a good movie if the camera is pointed at the ground, or you can't have a good book if it doesn't have pictures in it to show you what's going on. It's 2017, it's time to move on from crap like this.

Sape-tier logic. Take the Thalpill:
>They (Sir-Tech) had extensive legal problems with Andrew Greenberg and all of the original source code for Wizardry, which they had never properly obtained the rights to or purchased from Greenberg. They had written successive sequels while all these legal problems raged in the background, thinking ownership was 9/10s of the law and the longer they stalled in court the more likely they would just be conceded the owners of the franchise by default.

>Their role as "managers" in the past of software projects mostly consisted of calling people on the phone and asking them when did they think it would be ready. I gathered they had no real hands-on experience managing software development and they were so sparse they decided (all non-technical people do) that it was really a very easy affair, you could just hire some interns for peanuts or anybody handy and shazam, a game would appear in some way sooner or later. I had worked with people in New York with far superior experience and credentials to these guys and was good at recognizing real technical people when I saw them. Norm and Rob were not these kinds of guys.

>Both Norm and Rob were not aware you can easily go bankrupt in software development if the company is run by idiots. They were both confident in a way that did not really resonate with what they had on tap, outside of their name and previous glories. I guessed when I was there that Sir-Tech was really on it's final legs at that point despite having "lots of money" in reserves. I have been doing this long enough to know that incompetent people can burn a million dollars a month easily without being able to explain where it all went. I would not have purchased stock in Sir-Tech if I had been offered it.
>>
>>383571947
>Graphics and story are meaningless.
Wrong. So wrong.

First of all, you're being insensitive. I have a disability that makes it hard for me to imagine what something looks like, so when I see a game with graphics that aren't accessible to me, it's very upsetting.

Second, gameplay exists only to contextualize the story. Saying gameplay is important is like having an empty glass, and when someone wants to pour soda, you say no, only the glass is important. And you don't necessarily need the glass at all, the same way gameplay sometimes only gets in the way. Gameplay just for gameplay is a waste of time.
>>

>>383572357

>>
>>383572357

>>
>>383572241
Not that guy but you are right. If the story is compelling it amplifies the gameplay. An rpg needs an amazing story in order for there to be a great game. A great story in an rpg is like the perfect side dish that complements the main course so well.

Gameplay in rpgs doesn't really exist, you have you stats, your party comp, and your game knowledge but break it down and it is turn based. A good story can suck you in and make you love the game and make it legendary.

I just played Torment : Tides of Numenera and earlier that year I played Pillars of Eternity. They are practically the same game mechanics wise despite some differences. But Torment's story and writing were actually fantastic and it drew me into the world along with a great atmosphere.

RPGs are the one genre that needs good writing. Without it they are nothing.

I wish. It's actually that they insist on having gameplay that ruins RPG games. If they got rid of those outdated concepts such as
>you stats, your party comp, and your game knowledge
then they would truly reach the next level of epicness. Just a story with nothing in the way.

>>383572636
First of all, don't use that word. Second of all, I'm actually very intelligent, most of the tests I've taken online say my IQ is over 90%. And even if I wasn't, that's no reason to judge someone. What I have is just one of my disabilities, and people have to accept that.

I took a real one kid, I have a 136 IQ not a meme one online that doesn't actually test shit.

They are popular though because they have a fuck ton of people playing them, and a lot of sales means people are interested in games with gameplay mechanics. Like dark souls, souls is still very very popular and games like it are in demand. Shit people play CSGO by the millions and that game is pure gameplay. Your stance doesn't make any sense at all either way you look at it. You haven't made an argument, considering that all games that sell extremely well, have consistent communities and a big playerbase all have gameplay mechanics that are solid.

Your argument or lack thereof makes no sense.

Yeah, some people think that subconsciously, but no one who actually thinks that would be self-aware enough to realize it or honest enough to say it upfront. They'll disguise it as something else or dress it up in those fake words only gaming essayists use. The only people who would say something as blunt as "gameplay is outdated" are people trying to get a rise out the easily baited.

When you realized he was trolling, you should have quit while you were ahead. The other anon had already been found out by other posters, you should have joined them and ignored it. It doesn't matter if you think you're making a logical point, they're winning as long as you keep replying to them.

The biggest problem is that Cleve is right. Greenberg & Woodhead still has not seen ANY money for Wizardry since re-releases since they were "Let go", they tried to sue Siroteks AND Bradley (Who already made 3 successful Wizardry games) and Bradley went "Fuck it" and left the company to avoid getting involved. Till this day Siroteks don't want to pay Green & Wood a dime and worse of all sold off Wizardry name to some MMO holding company in Japan.

>Saying gameplay is important is like having an empty glass, and when someone wants to pour soda, you say no, only the glass is important

He's creating a fiasco with the intention of creating drama and drawing attention to his product. Piss enough people off and then the news outlets start seeing clicks and everyone starts talking about it. This is outrage culture.

Cleve knows exactly what he is doing. You really think he's adding features mere hours before he promised to release the game? No, the game has been feature complete for quite a long while.
>>
>>383577702
But he responded with a coherent post, in the beginning he was saying how story was important to rpgs and gameplay took a back seat. And then said that gameplay is completely unneeded. At some level he believed what he was saying.
>>
>>383577821
Or he was just escalating it because he wanted to see how far he could take it with you still believing he was serious. Which has been a troll MO since the Usenet days. A good troll...well, I wouldn't call this a good troll, but a half-decent troll knows you can't show your cards too early, you have to get someone to bite the hook and only then do you reel it in.

Honestly, even besides all that, your first major red flag should have been the Tumblr "I have a very specific disability that no psychologist will recognize because they don't understand me"-type shit. No one who's part of that crowd would ever wind up on an imageboard. No one who goes that far out of their element would stay there.

When people are lying about what they believe, there isn't necessarily an element of truth in their lies. Usually, they're just lying.

In rpgs I believe story is more important, then he said that gameplay all around is redundant. That was his true opinion.

Bro, think about what you just wrote. No one would EVER say something like this legitimately. Only a Tumblrina would ever go that route, and that sort of person wouldn't be having a debate in a /v/ thread. They'd leave as soon as someone was mean to them or something.

>to which I agreed, there was nothing trolling about it
Just because you agreed doesn't mean it wasn't a prelude to an escalation of trolling. If anything, it made him more confident that he could have some fun with you, the same way a con man makes sure his target is buying his fake story before he goes in for the money.

>then he said that gameplay all around is redundant. That was his true opinion.
No, it was him realizing that he found his trolling victim for the night and getting started in earnest.

Not saying I wouldn't have been mad at him, but I wasn't even mad. I was just fucking with him. In the hopes that he was serious. That's how trolling works. It's a two way street.

What did Phipps mean by this?
>>
>Grimoire gets released
>game is so niche that only about 150 copies get sold
>Each copy costs $40
>that's $6000 profit
>valve takes 1/3 cut
>so you get $4000
>all this for $4000
>>
>>383580034
I don't know man, I'm pirating this shit. I don't think it's coming out but I am excited for it. Do you get this feel?
>>
>>383579874
>I was just fucking with him
When earlier you said
>I literally poked holes in his weak arguments and blew him the fuck out.
and
>I still could show him he was retarded
Which meant you thought you seriously making points.

Not to mention if you weren't even mad, you would have made that clear before now instead of calling him "retarded" a bunch, which certainly does make it sound like you were upset.

It's time to admit you were wrong anon, this is starting to get embarrassing.

Why are Sapes so fucking retarded
>>
>>383580260
I've only been talking to him for a little over an hour but you're right, I've shown way too much patience. I should have taken my own advice that I've been giving myself for years and beat it.
>>
>>383580169
Why is it so hard to believe considering I already said in one post that he was probably baiting? Even if he was the troll only works if he pisses me off. If it was trolling it was weak as fuck because I was able to poke holes in his argument. I had fun with it. You are the autist who has been respond to a dead thread for hours telling me how I got trolled even though I really don't give a fuck kek.

I mean by your logic I've been trolling you the entire time by making you reply to me. Guess you lost faggot you fucking loser. Haha.

I mean then all posts on 4chan are just trolls!, noone can say anything dumb or they are just trolling! I mean at that point if I was fucking with someone I would tell them that they got baited at some point. But he didn't.

That's not how trolling works at all. Are you new to the internet?
>even though I really don't give a fuck kek
Yeah, you've been at it for hours now because you just don't give a fuck so much. You're like one of those edgy teens who really cares about making sure everyone knows they don't care about anything.

>I mean by your logic I've been trolling you the entire time by making you reply to me
Either than or you are a genuine moron. Has to be one of those.

>noone can say anything dumb
You're an obvious contradiction to that. You claim to have an IQ of 136 and you can't even spell "no one" correctly, which any 5-year-old could do.

>I mean at that point if I was fucking with someone I would tell them that they got baited at some point
How fucking dense do you have to be to think a troll would bother telling anyone they got trolled?

You must be 18 or older to come here, kid.
>>
>>383580765

>>
>>383580765
I mean

You're the one who's been trying to explain to an idiot why he's an idiot and think you can stop him from being an idiot while the rest of us have just been ignoring him. What does that say about you
>>
>>383580765
Kek why would I care about typing noone on the internet. Who cares. I am literally fucking around because I am watching youtube and just pop in to reply to this retard in this thread.

That's how I post, I violently attack someone to make them feel bad until they leave the thread. I hope he felt retarded, but basically if he was telling the truth it makes me laugh that he lost so hard.

I'm in med school buddy, and I'm in summer break, this is how I post on 4chan everyday. I constantly look for people to put down. I've been doing this since 2005. There is no effort in replying to posts, I can not give a fuck and keep replying. I only go on grimoire threads because these threads are fun.

Trolling is a two way street. Trolling insinuates that you will make the other person mad by making him incoherent with rage. Usually that includes making well thought out coherent posts that you may not believe in, but to make people mad. That's how I troll anyway. To make people feel like shit for being so fucking stupid. I enjoy thinking that the people I blow the fuck out on a daily basis feel like shit.

Plot twist: Cleve is waiting for Dwarf Fortress to get out of alpha and Half Life 3 to release.
>>
You all should be grateful to Cleve for not releasing the game. The meager Sape brain was never meant to contend with win and incline of such magnitude. I shudder to think of the consequences. Truly, the 'Thal is benevolent and merciful.

FFTA2 was only using as a word in the subtitle, while Grimoire: Manastorm was using it as its primary title. That's a huge distinction. It ended up not mattering anyway, since the Manastorm devs lost their trademark. They hired that "Video Game Attorney" guy who doesn't actually understand law, and he didn't know how to file the paperwork correctly, which the Copyright Office complained about when it rejected the filing. All's well that ends well.

Besides, with the dozens of copies of the game they sold, they won't have the money to stop the release of the true Grimoire anyway. Only Cleve can do that.

Thalpilled neanderthals are quite literally retarded. I think the game looks worthy enough for a try, maybe a buy, but it will never ever fucking release. Besides wizardry 8 is objectively better.
>>
>>383586880
He is (supposedly) releasing a game. A video game. Something which has a standard of containing bugs which either are fixed shortly there after or left alone as they aren't worth fixing. The Challenger disaster was a space shuttle exploding because the engineers had done something wrong.

He is elevating his game to the level of a space shuttle and the effect of the supposed bugs he is looking after to the cause of several peoples deaths.

Yes it is just a metafor but this guy, this guy

Do you think it will come to a point where Valve says "We haven't received anything yet"?
>>
>>383587782
It doesn't hurt them to leave it up. Given all the asset flips, scams, games that were only worked on for 10 minutes, and all the other fake games Valve allows, a game whose worst crime is simply never releasing is a breath of fresh air.

Valve does not give a single fuck about anything except money. And it will not put the slightest effort into anything unless it's removing something that gets in the way of its money or doing something that will make it money. Gabe's too busy rubbing $100 bills on his nipples to notice something like this.
>>
>>383586880
>>383587190
Also it's likely his wife isn't real or his son.
>>
>>383587981

My point is steam gets money off the top from all those shitty asset flips. If they get infamous a bunch of people rush to buy it and they get even more money before removing it.

With this all they got is his $100 greenlight fee.
>>
>>383587279
>authors
Fuck off with your autism vocabulary, Cleve.
>>
>>383588293
There's still no reason for them to take it down. The way they see it, either it miraculously gets tied to a game and starts making them money, or it says "coming soon" forever and it does them no harm to ignore it. Removing it won't affect their profit, so they don't care. It's that simple.
>>
>>383552737
been thinking the same since this shit threads about this shit game popped up, but at least terry is the fun-kind of insane, and has delivered a fully working (lol) os that he coded.
This guy is just a mongoloid who will never deliver shit, and whatever he has, it was stolen years ago.
