Vassals will always hate you. It's their job.

Make sure you don't create strong vassals. It's much harder for factions to gather if you have many weak vassals.

If push comes to shove and you still get a strong faction in your realm, try to weaken it by eliminating some of the stronger vassals (preferably the faction leader). Easiest way is to use righteous imprisonment (intrigue focus helps in producing a reason). If it succeeds, throw the person in the oubliette. If it fails, he'll rebel, so crush him, imprison him and throw him in the oubliette.
A small, controlled civil war is always better than the entire faction going against you.

that's okay anon we all have to learn sometime. I'd also recommend disabling "full plate metal music pack", "orchestral house lords", and "viking metal" since they're non immersive music packs. people are iffy on aspects of conclave and monks and mystics, so you might want to try a half hour or so without those to see which you prefer
also it's a good idea to kill satan spawn children. in my experience they constantly murder your good heirs and just fuck things up in general. can't remember if they offer fun events if you're playing as them though. I know lunatics are fun to play.

You say that but even at the start Crusader Kings 2 was all about taking cruel actions to sustain yourself. Shit to succeed as a Catholic often meant exploiting the hatred of other religions to your advantage. Nowdays they just give you more options to be cruel, because that was a drawing point for a lot of people.

Granted I'm still fond of trying to be a noble crusader, but it sure is difficult when nobody else wants to play by the same set of rules and get to use a lot more underhanded tactics to fuck you over.
