Didn't he go there to amass power faster for the rematch?

I mean isn't his whole thing eating souls? He'd need a direct line of them he could only get there so it makes since he'd risk it.
Better than being eternally beat down and trapped in Nirn.

Dragon's Dogma is one of the only games where dragon fights actually felt like fighting dragons. Not even Souls games quite hit the mark because they're still hit the legs till it dies but they at least get it having the air advantage correct.

>>
>>383528437
Because you just stab souls dragons to death
In dragons dogma you have to shoot it with ballistas and shit.
Imagine if a bug took down a human by stinging the person to death. That's how souls dragons feel

Like most western designs, they focus too much on shitty little details instead of having a strong silhouette.
Like, this is a big monster that flies around a lot. I'm never going to be able to appreciate these intricacies, he's just going to look like a big spiky thing most of the time.
Grigori does the dragon thing right. He's basic in terms of details, but his silhouette is regal and imposing, making the player truly feel small, like they're in the presence of a god. Alduin feels no different from any other dragon in Skyrim.

Alduin could be defeated because he wasn't actually doing what he was supposed to. His purpose is to devour the world when the Kalpa ends. Instead, he wanted to rule the world and institute Dragon supremacy. That's why the last dragonborn was able to defeat him. If he was in his world devourer phase, absolutely nothing could stop him. Look at how casually he fucked up the demon that would become Mehrunes Dagon

Grigori:
>Tears down an entire fortress chasing you
>You have to dodge his fire while trying to get across a bridge twice to get to a higher vantage point
>At that higher vantage you fire a ballista at his heart to try and ground him, he then charges at you on the tower mouth first
>You don't get eaten and instead grab and hang on to his back while hes flying hundreds of feet in the air, climb your way up his back, and strike him at the back of his heart
>You both fall into an arena where you have a final combat
That final combat can include
>Climbing onto either his chest or back to hit the heart from either side
>Smacking his head to interrupt his fire breath
>Causing enough damage to his wings to prevent him from flying
>Causing enough stagger to his arms to save party members
>If he does fly again either shoot him down with your own arrows or ballistae around the arena
And in general DD's combat system lending itself alot better than most to fights of this scale.

HELL NO, minor dragon fights in dd were just you hugging/climbing on the dragons chest and mashing square, for grigori you just pop a stamina potion, climb up to his weakspot and mash square. Dragons dogma dragons had some cool special moves like being able to corrupt your pawns, but fighting them was shit because they all had their weakspot in their chest and had barely any ways to stop you once you started wailing on it. Dont even get me started on the ur dragon. If you didnt have to damage their stupid weak spot they would be top tier.

The only dragon fight that has ever made me feel like I was fighting a dragon is midir in dark souls 3. The best way to fight him is face to face, the best way to damage him is to hit his head, and if you do enough head damage you can slay him with a critical hit for ultimate satisfaction.

Spice up the liveliness of the world a litte. It has a perfect amount of adversity and enemy variety but the severe lack of normal people going about day to day life makes the world feel dead (of course this might have been intentional)
Write the entire story with the same amount of quality as the final acts of the game. Dragon's Dogma is one of the biggest examples of not caring what the fuck was going on story wise until the last 8-10 hours where it picks up heavily.
And then just general sequel things like new monsters, abilities, vocations, etc. Ironically enough the setting for DDO where the dragon of the cycle essentially tells the Seneschal and the cycle to sod off would be a good premise for a sequel.

Not that guy but DD had two major problems. First, while the huge monsters and different hit locations was a great concept, the implementation was ass and climbing was broken and retarded, so it was wasted to a large degree.

Second, there was no balance and very rarely did it present a proper challenge. Everything was either impossible unless you wanted to spend an hour hacking away at one enemy, or a complete cakewalk.

In my case I ended up steamrolling over Grigori so yeah, it was pretty much a gimmick/cutscene fight, and even if it hadn't been, my first point would still have made it not great.
>>
>>383526050
Still relevant. I've been replaying Skyrim recently and I thought it was cool to naturally see Alduin in the overworld reviving dragons (outside of the main quest) but then he just fucking flies off. Makes no attempt to attack or fight back, he priotizes reviving a couple dipshit dragons as opposed to killing the only living dragonborn.

I think they could have at least made him visually different to the other dragons. They could made him a true four legged dragon like pic related, would have made him more menacing. Wyverns just look goofy. They look goofy flying, they look goofy walking, they look goofy when you communicate them.
>>

>In my case I ended up steamrolling over Grigori so yeah, it was pretty much a gimmick/cutscene fight
Did you overlevel or intentionally dragonforge yourself early? Did you look up on a guide how to fight?

First time I fought Grigori it really felt like a fight of epic (I hate that this word has been overused to death and now feels cringy to use, because it is applicable to this case) proportions. I played as a ranger, but it was still a challenge and tested the skills I had been building the whole game.

Grigori and Drakes can only killed be attacking the glowing heart on their "chest"
Wyrms' heart is closer to its belly
Wyverns' heart is on it's back and can be very challenging because it likes flying as much as Azure Rathalos
Cursed Dragons have their weakspot also on the chest except for Dark Bishop's pet
Ur Dragon is the most frustrating in my opinion, it has hearts located all over it's body and you can hit those and damage Ur until those hearts are destroyed. Then you do no damage, and the hearts can be located on places normally difficult to aim at or to high up for Red vocations like on the front wingtips. Very trivial fight for staff users.

>Not that guy but DD had two major problems. First, while the huge monsters and different hit locations was a great concept, the implementation was ass and climbing was broken and retarded, so it was wasted to a large degree.

climbing was fine, dragons shaking you off drained so much stamina only liquid vim could keep you on, ogres would crush you if you stayed too long, cyclops would just grab you off and throw you, griffins would only be able to fly if you weren't on them(and if the griffin is flying it's super hard to beat so you want to prevent that), etc.

>Second, there was no balance and very rarely did it present a proper challenge. Everything was either impossible unless you wanted to spend an hour hacking away at one enemy, or a complete cakewalk.

everything before post-game was too easy I agree, as harsh as the level curves could be it was way too soft if you played the game properly because you'd steamroll almost everything if you stuck to level appropriate content instead of exploring on your own

post-game, BBI and anything you discover early on your own (like going to the abbey at night or going to the shadow fort as your first wrymhunt quest, encountering the golem and the drake, etc.) avert this.

>>In my case I ended up steamrolling over Grigori so yeah, it was pretty much a gimmick/cutscene fight, and even if it hadn't been, my first point would still have made it not great.

the first time I fought grigori I could tell he was far beyond any other dragon in the game so far and even in the post-game the dragons were easier than grigori (wyvern and wyrm), but I was like level 65 from doing almost every quest I could get my hands on before grigori so it was a cakewalk

the beauty of an open world game is that people who rushed to grigori at like level 36 got an insanely hard battle because they were way under what they were supposed to be, so you essentially choose how hard the boss is.

The reason the special edition doesn't have mod support is that it doesn't have SKSE yet, which is a prerequisite for doing anything complex. The original still gets new mods every single day. And even if it wasn't, 6 years of mod support is infinitely more than what most games get. The only games with bigger modding scenes than TES are Doom and Half-Life.

I just want to know how high that anon's standards are. If Skyrim has aged poorly, what has aged well?

Let me try to explain aging for you autists that still don't get it.

Aging essentially means
>graphics were impressive and/or a significant draw at the time of release, but over time have become less impressive due to continually developing graphics (see almost every emerging 3D era game and pre-rendered graphics games)
>gameplay was innovative at the time, but new games have done it better/improved on the formula
>game has lost online connectivity/dlc/developer support
>playerbase has dwindled and settled into stale meta/scummy/third world only players if online.

You are objectively correct in the long run, but you don't understand the value of being cutting edge at the time.

Games don't age. The game is the exact same as it was years ago. None of this affects the quality of the game and Skyrim was never cutting edge to begin with. The NPCs always looked like potatoheads with janky animations. And the world was always full of the same uninteresting shit. You have to be pretty much insane to enjoy this dull garbage. I do understand games being being more interesting because of a novelty factor, but they DO NOT become worse over time, they DON'T age.

simple explanation: CHIM is when you become the player and gain access to game mechanics.

lots of lore buffs will argue something like "that's an exactly perfect metaphor for what it is, but that's not literally what it is"

the idea of CHIM is that when X character has chim they are essentially lucid dreaming, which is sort of like how you as the player can save/load, turn on god mode, use console commands, pause the game on a whim, etc.

a popular explanation of CHIM is basically saying it's like vivec gaining access to console commands/the pause menu

lore-wise, it's realizing you're in a dream, but continuing to exist, as a parallel to lucid dreaming irl where you realize you're in a dream and if you don't wake up, you gain full control

All the libraries in Skyrim seem to be random generated, same with booksellers, so just buy all the books.
In Morrowind the Temple library has a shit ton of books related to religion and metaphysics, read all of it, after that most of the libraries hold variety of content related to general stuff or local areas and some other random books too, so just read that too.
There are also books and notes that are important but can be found only outside, like Old Weathered Note, so exploration and reading will go a long way.

I can link you to good out of game lore resources if you want to generally learn more lore.

ganondorf from wind waker basically says he tried to conquer hyrule because the place where he's from is a shithole where his people struggle and he coveted the green of hyrule

>Where are the best places to find lore books in morrowind and skyrim?
you're probably best off reading UESP (the elder scrolls wiki) and that one library website for elder scrolls lore,

if you insist on doing so in game just play the game normally and read every book with an interesting name that you come across scattered through the world (such as "on lycanthropy")

>>383541385
elder scrolls is like DD in that it hides away all the interesting lore, but unlike DD where you're meant to play the game again and get the things you didn't get the first time, elder scrolls acts like it's ashamed of its lore.

also alduin being disoriented doesn't make sense, alduin is a time god and thus alduin is an archangel of time essentially, he should be fine.

It's especially dumb because the massive open-world RPG aspect of their games would work better without a singular linear main questline.
If they cut out this whole main villain bullshit entirely and let players meet their own personal villains through more interesting non-mandatory quests in the world, not even the normalfags would notice.
Of all the people I've talked to on the subject, only like 10% of them had played through Skyrim's main questline until the end, because they didn't care at all about continuing it, and were more invested in doing all of the other cool stuff in the world that more immediately suited their interests.
Main questlines should just be scrapped.

Script extender won't come out for a while after release if at all. Mod kit won't come out for months at least like last few times. I think Morrowind was the only one that had the mod kit come on the disc.

All I know is that the next game better not have load screens between interior and exterior spaces. That shit drives me nuts. Witcher 3, BOTW, and pretty much any large game runs without load screens these days. It's also going to take quite some time after the extender to come out for decent mods (sexual or otherwise) to come out. Hopefully when they do we get something like OSex early instead of Sexlab. That shit came out too late for anyone to make use of it.
>>
Skyrim is better as an open ended, open world sandbox than an actual game with actual stories or design. I like to play as wizards who go mad with power, and as one who began destroying space time, and reality itself as he played with powers beyond his control, for the sake of asserting dominance over the most powerful being in existence, despite not knowing what it was, but his plan was to draw it out by challenging it with his growing power.

Then I played a wandering samurai warrior who, upon seeing the civil war, decided to kill both armies, their leaders, the jarls, and the high king candidates himself, and re-instate the Shogun in Skyrim.

Then I played a bandit bicycle who became discontent with her monotonous life, and lack of self worth, so she leaves her troupe in the middle of the night, goes off on an adventure to see the world, and stumbles upon conspiracies, shadow governments, slave trades, and more, who was killed just as she got too close to a dark cult trying to summon Mehrunes Dagon back into the world.

Then I played as a girl looking for the whereabouts of her mother, a legendary spellsword, who follows her trail to find that her mother has basically built an army of her own of people tired of the civil war, and through a series of guerrilla tactics, rendered both sides basically unable to fight any longer, united Skyrim, and became a sort of demigod as she rallied the sides to fight against the Thalmor.

Regardless of how stupid and fucking erratic these stories are, I'd say they're more fun to go through than the main questline. To me, quality writing that's 100% sensible and well thought out 100% of the time isn't as fun as a wild ass ride that gets dumber and dumber as it goes on, and some stupid "you fight the epic legendary ancient evil as the super legendary superboss" story isn't fun. In my like, 2000+ hours playing skyrim, not a single fucking minute has been spent doing the main quest.

I remember going mystic knight on PS3 and just blasting Ur Dragon with holy infused magick cannon the entire fight, felt like I had a consistent 10 fps
would also use that massive holy majick AoE that drained your entire parties stamina when the chance arose, good shit

he didn't think the Dragonborn can get to Sovngarde, but yeah he is pretty retarded.

the fight at the top of the mountain should've been the last fight with Alduin, because after we beat him the first time, the suspense was gone.

How many people can you have at one of Hearthfire's houses at the same time without mods? I want to throw a big party.

Haven't played the DaSIII DLC and I just blasted Storm King with Soul Arrows, but the Ancient Dragon and Sinh are perfectly killable by hitting them in the legs and it's probably the easiest and most intuitive way to beat them.

The strategy for Sinh is to dodge behind him when he attacks and punch him in the hind legs and tail.

The strategy for Ancient Dragon is to smack it in the back legs, run away and repeat until it's dead.

I didn't notice an appreciable damage difference between hitting Sinh in the tail and hitting him in the chest or upper body.
