replayed them recently and i have to agree with 3 is the best one. vice city had that annoying part where you have to drive around all your assets to collect money over and over again in order to buy the properties you actually need to progress the story. and SA had the entire forest section story missions which were pretty boring with the exception of the catalina missions. imo 3 had none of that shit, no stealth missions, no driving a stupid fucking helicopter just straight up classic 3D GTA gameplay. plus the atmosphere is fucking top tier.

The atmosphere was just PERFECT. Really dark, and rainy.

While I agree that VC and SA are better games, my favorite is GTA3. Someone from here told me to take off my nostalgia googles when I criticized GTA4 and compared it to GTA3.

GTA3 is basically 3D version of GTA2 - very arcade-ish, which is what I prefer. after playing 4 and its dlcs (which were more fun the base game), I went back to 3 and beat it again. and you know what (after what, 15 years?), it's still fun and addicting, except gang territory and instant shotgun kill bs.

The graphics are cool, radio stations are nice too, you have activities to do, but...

It's just missing something. It's like they gave you everything at once, without procedural discoveries. You remember in the older GTA games, some parts of the map were locked for later, which was keeping you intrigued.

Also, I didn't feel any attachement to the characters, and never really gave a fuck about what would happen next in the story. That what the best thing in the previous GTA games, and I remember the names of some random people from III, VC, SA, IV... because I was interested by the story.

To be honest, I don't even remember the names of the main characters of V.

It's an interesting game, but it lacks something crucial.

Did anything ever happen with the chiliad mystery or any of the other weird shit in GTA V?

I feel like SA has a lot of annoying stuff like this, that just adds up. The AI just totally sucks, the cars spin out a bit too easily, the aim seems ever so slightly off. I mean I still loved the atmosphere but I think it easily has the worst mission design

I think people shit on it too much. It's definitely a very fun game, they clearly made "fun" a priority this time around, driving is zippier, missions have checkpoints, etc. I also feel like it has more content than people give it credit for, the world feels way more active than IV IMO. Stuff like Strangers and Freaks, owning businesses, buying stocks, golf, being able to really mod your car, being able to go hunting...individually they may not seem like much but I thought they were all good additions. Personally I found the hunting surprisingly satisfying.

GTA3 made me sort of depressed playing it as a kid. It was so gritty and it always seemed like it was raining or overcast, so I preferred VA where its usually nice and sunny.

Vice City has an amazing 80's feel. It really puts you in the whole Miami Vice vibe. Great soundtrack as well.

But GTA III is something special. It makes me depressed too, but I just love it. It's the only game that gives me so many feels.
