But he didn't though. He drew a sprite using the art Akira Kitamura designed.

his superior, the guy who designed Mega Man's sprite, left after Mega Man 1, leaving Inafune as the only guy involved with his creation. (Kitamura created the sprite, and gave it to inafune to make the artwork out of)

he sort of became, through attrition, the spokesman of the Mega Man brand, simply for being around it longest.

he never actually claimed to be the creator of Mega Man, but people always assumed that he was being humble because "lolJapan"

blame videogame magazines of the day for perpetuating it.

it's the other way around retards. Kitamura created the sprite first, and handed it to Inafune to create the character art.

He left after 2 actually, and not before speaking to the new director of 3 for how they should handle it.

He also drew Mega Man before handing it to Inafune. He just wasn't good enough as an artist to formally do the box art. Kitamura posts his drawings on his blog all the time.

I didn't know the guy was still even alive. he seemed to drop off the face of the earth after being involved with MM

checking it out though, you're right, he left after 2.

though I recall inafune saying on many occasions that the guy heading up 3 "didn't get" Megaman like Kitamura did, which "caused headaches", and it kinda shows with MM3's unfinished content

Is Inafune the Bob Kane of Video Games?
>>
>>383526124

Part of the mystery I want to solve is what happened to Kitamura. After Capcom, he goes to SNK briefly, then forms Takeru. His last confirmed game is "Nontan to Issho_Kuru Kuru Puzzle" in 1994. Mobygames however, lists multiple other games, and on his site, he lists only his most major works (as director) and not the other games as planner. He strangely lists working on the Playstation, meaning his career may have extended into the mid-90's. What he did after that is unknown.

>though I recall inafune saying on many occasions that the guy heading up 3 "didn't get" Megaman like Kitamura did, which "caused headaches", and it kinda shows with MM3's unfinished content

For MM3, keep in mind our only source so far is Inafune himself. Well, Kitamura mentions the meeting with the director where he gave him some advice. Now, Inafune is often a very frustrating source. He often never names any names, skips details, and never talks about anyone but himself (he's a self promoter at heart). That director was Masahiko Kurokawa, who seems to have left mid-way through production. Capcom then rushed MM3 to get it out before Akira Kitamura's Cocoron was released.

There's a recent book covering MM3, but I do not know the quality of the research and sources on it. Is it just rehashing Wikipdia or guesswork? Often Video game scholarship is little more than just postings on forums. An excerpt was posted on Kotaku, and it seems to give insight, but I do question what this is based on.

For sources, we lack anything but Inafune for MM 3,4,5,6. The next group interview is for MMX.

Kitamura is truly a mystery
>>
>>383527701

Yes, and his blog is doubly mysterious. I for one had assumed he long moved on from gaming. But here he is, reminicing about game design theory and blogging. Obviously he still cares. I think someone needs to interview him.

And track down the Castlevania 1-3 devs too. They're all gone.
>>
He started calling himself that because it's true in a sneaky jewish way.
>I am the creator of Megaman, I drew the character, so I created him!
By doing this he presented himself as the creator of the game and was able to extract money from nostalgia-addled fans.

They only took 4 months to make, vs. 3 years. They had a better plan and appealed to what Inti-Creates are good at (low budget handheld 2D games) rather than what they're bad at (Unreal engine, 3D games). MN9 development was them flailing around with Unreal engine looking like fools.
>>
>>383528579
He didn't really sell his name as the creator of Mega Man but someone trying to revive the series after Capcom progressively lost interest in it. Ironically a double-edged sword from Inafune forcing Capcom to be more Western, and his Mega Man games progressively getting more mediocre

After Capcom gave up and he didn't, he paid people to make MN9 as a last chance to keep interest in the series

Mega Man stagnated hard. The NES didn't need 6 games, and X1 still shits all over the rest of the series because muh gimmicks

Probably when he created megaman I guess
