So I was wondering about the possibility of a One-Punch Man game. For those of you who don't know (read: have been living under a rock the past year and a half or so), One-Punch Man is a manga and anime series satirizing typical fighting shounen series such as Dragonball Z and Naruto, with the twist that the main protagonist, Saitama, is already so incredibly powerful that he defeats anyone he comes up against with one punch - hence the series' name. The series focuses on Saitama's struggle to find an opponent that will actually be a challenge for him to defeat.
I was wondering about the possibility of a One-Punch Man game based upon the series. While this seems rather difficult due to Saitama's ability to instakill any foe with a single punch, I think I have a potential solution, and would like to hear some feedback - both positive as well as constructive criticism.
My idea stems around the concept of base levels being swarms, where Saitama has to slaughter armies of lesser monsters - easily killing them all, while perhaps building up some kind of gauge for his "Serious Punch" that would be an area of effect attack of some sort. After killing hordes of lesser foes, a boss monster would appear, which would have one very specific spot that would have to be punched in order to kill, and in order to get to said spot, the player would have to make their way to that location - while fighting off further waves of lesser monsters - until they can reach the weak spot and "one punch" the boss.
The main weakness I see to this gameplay strategy is that it would get boring and repetitive very quickly. Any suggestions for spicing it up would be quite welcome. I am by no means a game designer.
