I think Final Fantasy is better than Zelda.

Both series have been around for roughly the same amount of time and have a legendary status in the industry. However, they are very different. Most notably, The Legend of Zelda series is primarily designed for children to have an RPG experience. This is to say that in terms of storytelling, characters, themes, or even tactical systems of gameplay, The Legend of Zelda is lacking. It is simplified for children but at a cost of it attaining any level of artistry within its medium.

This would be OK if it were in a genre that isn't based around storytelling: Mario games are the greatest of all time because of their polished levels and gameplay mechanics. The platformer genre is for testing movement and jumping mechanic competency, therefore the Mario games focus solely on this. However, the RPG genre focuses primarily on characters and story. In this genre, TLOZ fails miserably.

Final Fantasy, across the many years similar to Zelda, has operated with much more mature themes and complex stories. The game mechanics prioritize a tactical assessment of your situation and careful planning. There are even challenge enemies to test the most capable and mature of players.

In short, Final Fantasy is better because it isn't for children.
