It's pretty good, my only problems are that you have to play on 3DS or an emulator because fuck the D pad, the run button is kind of unnecessary but I guess it makes it easier to plat with a D pad, and having to switch to other characters can be annoying. Other than that it's pretty great.

You realize playing it on a 3DS doesn't actually give it analogue controls, right? It still only registers 8 directions of digital movement. It's like thinking that your GBA games get analogue control just because you play it on a gameboy player and use a gamecube controller with an analogue stick.

lacked the kinesthetic polish of the original in almost every way and the updated art direction lacked the charm of the original also

i don't know why nintendo remakes are always so disappointing but every N64 mario/zelda that got a port to handhelds just felt like a cheap imitation

the parts of 64 that were rough around the edges were the parts that gave it character and the DS version lacked all of that, but it had that yoshi flower minigame where i could relish in never getting any pussy in high school so it evened out i guess

I gotta wonder if that extra door in the character select room was originally for something else. All the other doors have characters and that one just gives you a dinky star. It also takes a while to get.

It's also weird that the game pretty much doesn't have a true reward for getting all the stars like 64 does. Yeah the cannon opens up as always, but without the equivalent of Yoshi from the original giving you a dev message, a new triple jump, and a boatload of lives, the achievement feels really empty.

the controls suck ass. IMO The problem isn't even the limit of only eight movement directions. The real issue is that you only walk unless you permanently hold the sprint button. Makes doing anything besides simple jumps a pain in the ass.

first, you start off as yoshi. the only mario game before sm64ds where you could play as yoshi was yoshi's island, which had mario anyways.

second, the game has better graphics than the original sm64.
